1 “Os deuses Bel e Nebo se inclinam e caem no chão. Esses ídolos são colocados nas costas de animais de carga; são um peso enorme para os animais cansados.
2 with heuy charge `til to werynesse weren rotun, and ben al to-brokun togidere; tho miyten not saue the berere, and the soule of hem schal go in to caitifte.
2 Os deuses se inclinam e caem; eles não podem se salvar e são levados pelos inimigos.
3 The hous of Jacob, and al the residue of the hous of Israel, here ye me, whiche ben borun of my wombe, whiche ben borun of my wombe.
3 “Escute, povo de Israel; escutem, todos os descendentes de Jacó que ficaram vivos! Desde que vocês nasceram, eu os tenho carregado; sempre cuidei de vocês.
4 Til to eelde Y my silf, and til to hoor heeris Y schal bere; Y made, and Y schal bere, and Y schal saue.
4 E, quando ficarem velhos, eu serei o mesmo Deus; cuidarei de vocês quando tiverem cabelos brancos. Eu os criei e os carregarei; eu os ajudarei e salvarei.
5 To whom han ye licned me, and maad euene, and han comparisound me, and han maad lijk?
5 “Com quem é que vocês podem me comparar? Quem é parecido comigo?
6 Whiche beren togidere gold fro the bagge, and peisen siluer with a balaunce, and hiren a goldsmyth to make a god, and thei fallen doun, and worschipen; thei berynge beren in schuldris,
6 Há gente que pega uma boa porção do seu ouro e uma enorme quantidade da sua prata e paga um ourives para que com esse ouro e com essa prata ele faça um deus. E depois se ajoelham diante desse deus e o adoram.
7 and settynge in his place; and he schal stonde, and schal not be mouyd fro his place; but also whanne thei crien to hym, he schal not here, and he schal not saue hem fro tribulacioun.
7 Então carregam a imagem nas costas e a colocam no seu lugar; e ali ela fica, sem poder se mexer. Se pedirem socorro à imagem, ela não atende; ela não pode livrá-los das suas dificuldades.
8 Haue ye mynde of this, and be ye aschamed; ye trespassouris, go ayen to the herte.
8 “Pecadores, lembrem disso: pensem bem e tenham juízo.
9 Bithenke ye on the formere world, for Y am God, and no God is ouer me, nether is lijk me.
9 Lembrem do que aconteceu no passado e reconheçam que só eu sou Deus, que não há nenhum outro como eu.
10 And Y telle fro the bigynnyng the laste thing, and fro the bigynnyng tho thingis that ben not maad yit; and Y seie, My councel schal stonde, and al my wille schal be don.
10 Desde o princípio, anunciei as coisas do futuro; há muito tempo, eu disse o que ia acontecer. Afirmei que o meu plano seria cumprido, que eu faria tudo o que havia resolvido fazer.
11 And Y clepe a brid fro the eest, and the man of my wille fro a ferr lond; and Y spak, and Y schal brynge that thing; Y haue maad of nouyt, and Y schal make that thing.
11 Estou chamando um homem para que venha do Oriente; de um país distante, ele vem rápido como uma águia para fazer o que eu ordeno. Vou cumprir o que prometi; vou fazer o que planejei.
12 Ye of hard herte, here me, that ben fer fro riytfulnesse.
12 “Gente teimosa, escute aqui! Vocês pensam que a sua salvação vai demorar.
13 Y made nyy myn riytfulnesse, it schal not be drawun afer, and myn helthe shal not tarie; Y schal yyue helthe in Sion, and my glorie in Israel.
13 Mas eu vou fazer chegar logo a salvação que prometi; ela não vai demorar, e em breve eu conseguirei a vitória. Eu salvarei os moradores de e repartirei com o povo de Israel a minha grandeza.”
