1 Therfor more plenteuousli it bihoueth vs to kepe tho thingis, that we han herd, lest perauenture we fleten awei.
1 Por isso devemos prestar mais atenção nas verdades que temos ouvido, para não nos desviarmos delas.
2 For if the ilke word that was seid bi aungels, was maad sad, and ech brekyng of the lawe and vnobedience took iust retribucioun of meede,
2 Não há dúvida de que a mensagem que foi dada por meio dos anjos é verdadeira; e aqueles que não a seguiram nem foram obedientes a ela receberam o castigo que mereciam.
3 hou schulen we ascape, if we despisen so greet an heelthe? Which, whanne it hadde takun bigynnyng to be teld out by the Lord, of hem that herden is confermyd in to vs.
3 Sendo assim, como é que nós escaparemos do castigo se desprezarmos uma salvação tão grande? Primeiro, o próprio Senhor Jesus anunciou essa salvação; e depois aqueles que a ouviram nos provaram que ela é verdadeira.
4 For God witnesside to gidere bi myraclis, and wondris, and grete merueilis, and dyuerse vertues, and departyngis of the Hooli Goost, bi his wille.
4 Ao mesmo tempo, por meio de sinais de poder, maravilhas e muitos tipos de milagres, Deus confirmou o testemunho deles. E, de acordo com a sua vontade, distribuiu também os dons do Espírito Santo.
5 But not to aungels God sugetide the world that is to comynge, of which we speken.
5 Pois Deus não deu aos anjos o poder de governar o mundo novo que está por vir, o mundo do qual estamos falando.
6 But sum man witnesside in a place, and seide, What thing is man, that thou art myndeful of hym, or mannus sone, for thou visitist hym?
6 Pelo contrário, em alguma parte das Escrituras Sagradas alguém afirma: “Que é um simples ser humano, ó Deus, para que penses nele? Que é o ser mortal para que te preocupes com ele?
7 Thou hast maad hym a litil lesse than aungels; thou hast corowned hym with glorie and onour; and thou hast ordeyned him on the werkis of thin hondis.
7 Tu o colocaste por pouco tempo em posição inferior à dos anjos, tu lhe deste a de um rei
8 Thou hast maad alle thingis suget vndur hise feet. And in that that he sugetide alle thingis to hym, he lefte no thing vnsuget to him. But now we seen not yit alle thingis suget to hym;
8 e puseste todas as coisas debaixo do domínio dele.” Quando se diz que Deus pôs “todas as coisas debaixo do domínio dele”, isso quer dizer que nada ficou de fora. Porém não vemos o ser humano governando hoje todas as coisas.
9 but we seen hym that was maad a litil lesse than aungels, Jhesu, for the passioun of deth crowned with glorie and onour, that he thorouy grace of God schulde taste deth for alle men.
9 Mas nós vemos Jesus fazendo isso. Por um pouco de tempo ele foi colocado em posição inferior à dos anjos, para que, pela graça de Deus, ele morresse por todas as pessoas. Agora nós o vemos coroado de glória e de honra por causa da morte que ele sofreu.
10 For it bisemede hym, for whom alle thingis, and bi whom `alle thingis weren maad, which hadde brouyt many sones into glorie, and was auctour of the heelthe of hem, that he hadde an ende bi passioun.
10 Pois Deus, que cria e sustenta todas as coisas, fez o que era apropriado e tornou Jesus perfeito por meio do sofrimento. Deus fez isso a fim de que muitos, isto é, os seus filhos , tomassem parte na glória de Jesus. Pois é Jesus quem os guia para a salvação.
11 For he that halewith, and thei that ben halewid, ben alle of oon; for which cause he is not schamed to clepe hem britheren,
11 Jesus purifica as pessoas dos seus pecados; e todos, tanto ele como os que são purificados, têm o mesmo Pai. É por isso que Jesus não se envergonha de chamá-los de irmãos.
12 seiynge, Y schal telle thi name to my britheren; in the myddil of the chirche Y schal herie thee.
12 Como ele diz: “Ó Deus, eu falarei a respeito de ti aos meus irmãos e te louvarei na reunião do povo.”
13 And eftsoone, Y schal be tristnynge in to hym; and eftsoone, Lo! Y and my children, whiche God yaf to me.
13 Diz também: “Eu confiarei nele.” E diz ainda: “Aqui estou eu com os filhos que Deus me deu.”
14 Therfor for children comyneden to fleisch and blood, and he also took part of the same, that bi deth he schulde destrie hym that hadde lordschipe of deth, that is to seie, the deuel,
14 Os filhos, como ele os chama, são pessoas de carne e sangue. E por isso o próprio Jesus se tornou igual a eles, tomando parte na natureza humana deles. Ele fez isso para que, por meio da sua morte, pudesse destruir o Diabo, que tem poder sobre a morte.
15 and that he schulde delyuere hem that bi drede of deth, `bi al lijf weren boundun to seruage.
15 E também para libertar os que foram escravos toda a sua vida por causa do medo da morte.
16 And he took neuere aungelis, but he took the seed of Abraham.
16 É claro que ele não veio para ajudar os anjos. Em vez disso, como dizem as Escrituras: “Ele ajuda os descendentes de Abraão.”
17 Wherfor he ouyte to be likned to britheren bi alle thingis, that he schulde be maad merciful and a feithful bischop to God, that he schulde be merciful to the trespassis of the puple.
17 Isso quer dizer que foi preciso que Jesus se tornasse em tudo igual aos seus irmãos a fim de ser o Grande Sacerdote deles, bondoso e fiel no seu serviço a Deus, para que os pecados do povo fossem perdoados.
18 For in that thing in which he suffride, and was temptid, he is miyti to helpe also hem that ben temptid.
18 E agora Jesus pode ajudar os que são tentados, pois ele mesmo foi tentado e sofreu.
