1 But feith is the substaunce of thingis that ben to be hopid, and an argument of thingis not apperynge.
1 Ora, a fé é a certeza de coisas que se esperam, a convicção de fatos que se não veem.
2 And in this feith elde men han gete witnessyng.
2 Pois, pela fé, os antigos obtiveram bom testemunho.
3 Bi feith we vndurstonden that the worldis weren maad bi Goddis word, that visible thingis weren maad of vnuysible thingis.
3 Pela fé, entendemos que foi o universo formado pela palavra de Deus, de maneira que o visível veio a existir das coisas que não aparecem.
4 Bi feith Abel offride a myche more sacrifice than Caym to God, bi which he gat witnessyng to be iust, for God bar witnessyng to hise yiftis; and bi that feith he deed spekith yit.
4 Pela fé, Abel ofereceu a Deus mais excelente sacrifício do que Caim; pelo qual obteve testemunho de ser justo, tendo a aprovação de Deus quanto às suas ofertas. Por meio dela, também mesmo depois de morto, ainda fala.
5 Bi feith Ennok was translatid, that he schulde not se deth; and he was not foundun, for the Lord translatide him. For bifore translacioun he hadde witnessing that he pleside God.
5 Pela fé, Enoque foi trasladado para não ver a morte; não foi achado, porque Deus o trasladara. Pois, antes da sua trasladação, obteve testemunho de haver agradado a Deus.
6 And it is impossible to plese God without feith. For it bihoueth that a man comynge to God, bileue that he is, and that he is rewardere to men that seken hym.
6 De fato, sem fé é impossível agradar a Deus, porquanto é necessário que aquele que se aproxima de Deus creia que ele existe e que se torna galardoador dos que o buscam.
7 Bi feith Noe dredde, thorouy answere takun of these thingis that yit weren not seyn, and schapide a schip in to the helthe of his hous; bi which he dampnede the world, and is ordeyned eir of riytwisnesse, which is bi feith.
7 Pela fé, Noé, divinamente instruído acerca de acontecimentos que ainda não se viam e sendo temente a Deus, aparelhou uma arca para a salvação de sua casa; pela qual condenou o mundo e se tornou herdeiro da justiça que vem da fé.
8 By feith he that is clepid Abraham, obeiede to go out in to a place, whiche he schulde take in to eritage; and he wente out, not witinge whidur he schulde go.
8 Pela fé, Abraão, quando chamado, obedeceu, a fim de ir para um lugar que devia receber por herança; e partiu sem saber aonde ia.
9 Bi feith he dwelte in the loond of biheest, as in an alien loond, dwellynge in litle housis with Ysaac and Jacob, euene heiris of the same biheest.
9 Pela fé, peregrinou na terra da promessa como em terra alheia, habitando em tendas com Isaque e Jacó, herdeiros com ele da mesma promessa;
10 For he abood a citee hauynge foundementis, whos crafti man and maker is God.
10 porque aguardava a cidade que tem fundamentos, da qual Deus é o arquiteto e edificador.
11 Bi feith also the ilke Sara bareyn, took vertu in consceyuyng of seed, yhe, ayen the tyme of age; for sche bileuede hym trewe, that hadde bihiyte.
11 Pela fé, também, a própria Sara recebeu poder para ser mãe, não obstante o avançado de sua idade, pois teve por fiel aquele que lhe havia feito a promessa.
12 For which thing of oon, and yit nyy deed, ther ben borun as sterris of heuene in multitude, and as grauel that is at the see side out of noumbre.
12 Por isso, também de um, aliás já amortecido, saiu uma posteridade tão numerosa como as estrelas do céu e inumerável como a areia que está na praia do mar.
13 Bi feith alle these ben deed, whanne the biheestis weren not takun, but thei bihelden hem afer, and gretynge hem wel, and knoulechide that thei weren pilgryms, and herboryd men on the erthe.
13 Todos estes morreram na fé, sem ter obtido as promessas; vendo-as, porém, de longe, e saudando-as, e confessando que eram estrangeiros e peregrinos sobre a terra.
14 And thei that sayn these thingis, signifien that thei sechen a cuntre.
14 Porque os que falam desse modo manifestam estar procurando uma pátria.
15 `If thei hadden hadde mynde of the ilke, of which thei wenten out, thei hadden tyme of turnyng ayen;
15 E, se, na verdade, se lembrassem daquela de onde saíram, teriam oportunidade de voltar.
16 but now thei desiren a betere, that is to seie, heuenli. Therfor God is not confoundid to be clepid the God of hem; for he made redi to hem a citee.
16 Mas, agora, aspiram a uma pátria superior, isto é, celestial. Por isso, Deus não se envergonha deles, de ser chamado o seu Deus, porquanto lhes preparou uma cidade.
17 Bi feith Abraham offride Ysaac, whanne he was temptid; and he offride the oon bigetun, whych had takun the biheestis;
17 Pela fé, Abraão, quando posto à prova, ofereceu Isaque; estava mesmo para sacrificar o seu unigênito aquele que acolheu alegremente as promessas,
18 to whom it was seid, For in Ysaac the seed schal be clepid to thee.
18 a quem se tinha dito: Em Isaque será chamada a tua descendência;
19 For he demyde, that God is myyti to reise hym, yhe, fro deth; wherfor he took hym also in to a parable.
19 porque considerou que Deus era poderoso até para ressuscitá-lo dentre os mortos, de onde também, figuradamente, o recobrou.
20 Bi feith also of thingis to comynge, Ysaac blesside Jacob and Esau.
20 Pela fé, igualmente Isaque abençoou a Jacó e a Esaú, acerca de coisas que ainda estavam para vir.
21 Bi feith Jacob diynge blesside alle the sones of Joseph, and onouride the hiynesse of his yerde.
21 Pela fé, Jacó, quando estava para morrer, abençoou cada um dos filhos de José e, apoiado sobre a extremidade do seu bordão, adorou.
22 Bi feith Joseph dyynge hadde mynde of the passyng forth of the children of Israel, and comaundide of hise boonys.
22 Pela fé, José, próximo do seu fim, fez menção do êxodo dos filhos de Israel, bem como deu ordens quanto aos seus próprios ossos.
23 Bi feith Moyses borun, was hid thre monethis of his fadir and modir, for that thei seiyen the yonge child fair; and thei dredden not the maundement of the king.
23 Pela fé, Moisés, apenas nascido, foi ocultado por seus pais, durante três meses, porque viram que a criança era formosa; também não ficaram amedrontados pelo decreto do rei.
24 Bi feith Moises was maad greet, and denyede that he was the sone of Faraos douytir,
24 Pela fé, Moisés, quando já homem feito, recusou ser chamado filho da filha de Faraó,
25 and chees more to be turmentid with the puple of God, than to haue myrthe of temporal synne;
25 preferindo ser maltratado junto com o povo de Deus a usufruir prazeres transitórios do pecado;
26 demynge the repreef of Crist more richessis than the tresours of Egipcians; for he bihelde in to the rewarding.
26 porquanto considerou o opróbrio de Cristo por maiores riquezas do que os tesouros do Egito, porque contemplava o galardão.
27 Bi feith he forsook Egipt, and dredde not the hardynesse of the king; for he abood, as seinge hym that was vnuysible.
27 Pela fé, ele abandonou o Egito, não ficando amedrontado com a cólera do rei; antes, permaneceu firme como quem vê aquele que é invisível.
28 Bi feith he halewide pask, and the scheding out of blood, that he that distriede the firste thingis of Egipcians, schulde not touche hem.
28 Pela fé, celebrou a Páscoa e o derramamento do sangue, para que o exterminador não tocasse nos primogênitos dos israelitas.
29 Bi feith thei passiden the reed see, as bi drye lond, which thing Egipcians asaiynge weren deuourid.
29 Pela fé, atravessaram o mar Vermelho como por terra seca; tentando-o os egípcios, foram tragados de todo.
30 Bi feith the wallis of Jerico felden doun, bi cumpassyng of seuene daies.
30 Pela fé, ruíram as muralhas de Jericó, depois de rodeadas por sete dias.
31 Bi feith Raab hoor resseyuede the aspieris with pees, and perischide not with vnbileueful men.
31 Pela fé, Raabe, a meretriz, não foi destruída com os desobedientes, porque acolheu com paz aos espias.
32 And what yit schal Y seie? For tyme schal faile to me tellynge of Gedeon, Barak, Sampson, Jepte, Dauid, and Samuel, and of othere prophetis;
32 E que mais direi? Certamente, me faltará o tempo necessário para referir o que há a respeito de Gideão, de Baraque, de Sansão, de Jefté, de Davi, de Samuel e dos profetas,
33 whiche bi feith ouercamen rewmes, wrouyten riytwisnesse, gaten repromyssiouns; thei stoppiden the mouthis of liouns,
33 os quais, por meio da fé, subjugaram reinos, praticaram a justiça, obtiveram promessas, fecharam a boca de leões,
34 thei quenchiden the feersnesse of fier, thei dryueden awei the egge of swerd, thei coueriden of sijknesse, thei weren maad strong in batel, thei turneden the oostis of aliens.
34 extinguiram a violência do fogo, escaparam ao fio da espada, da fraqueza tiraram força, fizeram-se poderosos em guerra, puseram em fuga exércitos de estrangeiros.
35 Wymmen resseyueden her deed children fro deth to lijf; but othere weren holdun forth, not takinge redempcioun, that thei schulden fynde a betere ayenrising.
35 Mulheres receberam, pela ressurreição, os seus mortos. Alguns foram torturados, não aceitando seu resgate, para obterem superior ressurreição;
36 And othere asaieden scornyngis and betingis, more ouer and boondis and prisouns.
36 outros, por sua vez, passaram pela prova de escárnios e açoites, sim, até de algemas e prisões.
37 Thei weren stoned, thei weren sawid, thei weren temptid, thei weren deed in sleyng of swerd. Thei wenten aboute in broc skynnes, and in skynnes of geet, nedi, angwischid, turmentid;
37 Foram apedrejados, provados, serrados pelo meio, mortos a fio de espada; andaram peregrinos, vestidos de peles de ovelhas e de cabras, necessitados, afligidos, maltratados
38 to whiche the world was not worthi. Thei erriden in wildernessis, in mounteynes and dennes, and caues of the erthe.
38 (homens dos quais o mundo não era digno), errantes pelos desertos, pelos montes, pelas covas, pelos antros da terra.
39 And alle these, preued bi witnessing of feith, token not repromyssioun;
39 Ora, todos estes que obtiveram bom testemunho por sua fé não obtiveram, contudo, a concretização da promessa,
40 for God purueiede sum betere thing for vs, that thei schulden not be maad perfit with outen vs.
40 por haver Deus provido coisa superior a nosso respeito, para que eles, sem nós, não fossem aperfeiçoados.
