1 Abraham yede forth fro thennus in to the lond of the south, and dwellide bitwixe Cades and Sur, and was a pilgrym in Geraris;
1 Abraão partiu dali e foi para a terra do Neguebe. Habitou entre Cades e Sur e morou em Gerar.
2 and he seide of Sare, his wijf, Sche is my sistir. Therfor Abymalec, kyng of Gerare, sente, and took hir.
2 Abraão dizia que Sara, a mulher dele, era sua irmã. Então Abimeleque, rei de Gerar, mandou buscá-la.
3 Sotheli God cam to Abymalec bi a sweuene in the nyyt, and seide to hym, Lo! thou schalt die, for the wooman which thou hast take, for sche hath an hosebond.
3 Deus, porém, veio a Abimeleque em sonhos de noite e lhe disse: — Você vai ser castigado com a morte por causa da mulher que tomou, porque ela tem marido.
4 Forsothe Abymalech touchide not hir; and he seide, Lord, whether thou schalt sle folc vnkunnynge and iust?
4 Ora, Abimeleque ainda não havia se aproximado de Sara e por isso disse: — Senhor, matarás até uma nação inocente?
5 Whether he seide not to me, Sche is my sistir, and sche seide, He is my brother? In the symplenesse of myn herte, and in the clennesse of myn hondis Y dide this.
5 Não foi ele mesmo que me disse: “É minha irmã”? E ela também me disse: “Ele é meu irmão.” Com sinceridade de coração e na minha inocência foi que eu fiz isso.
6 And the Lord seide to hym, And Y woot that thou didist bi symple herte, and therfor Y kepte thee, lest thou didist synne ayens me, and I suffride not that thou touchidist hir;
6 Deus respondeu-lhe em sonho: — Bem sei que com sinceridade de coração você fez isso. Por isso impedi que você pecasse contra mim e não permiti que você tocasse nela.
7 now therfor yelde thou the wijf to hir hosebonde, for he is a profete; and he schal preye for thee, and thou schalt lyue; sotheli if thou nylte yelde, wite thou that thou schalt die bi deeth, thou and alle thingis that ben thine.
7 Agora devolva a mulher a seu marido, pois ele é profeta e intercederá por você, e você viverá. Mas, se não a devolver, saiba que você certamente morrerá, você e tudo o que é seu.
8 And anoon Abynalech roos bi nyyt, and clepide alle his seruauntis, and spak alle these wordis in the eeris of hem; and alle men dredden greetli.
8 Abimeleque levantou-se de madrugada, chamou todos os seus servos e lhes contou todas essas coisas. E os homens ficaram com muito medo.
9 Sotheli Abymalec clepide also Abraham, and seide to hym, What hast thou do to vs? what synneden we ayens thee, for thou hast brouyt in on me and on my rewme a greuouse synne? thou hast do to vs whiche thingis thou ouytist not do.
9 Então Abimeleque chamou Abraão e lhe disse: — O que é isso que você fez conosco? Em que foi que pequei contra você, para que você trouxesse tamanho pecado sobre mim e sobre o meu reino? O que você me fez é coisa que não se deve fazer.
10 And eft Abimalech axide, and seide, What thing seiyist thou, that thou woldist do this?
10 E Abimeleque perguntou a Abraão: — O que é que levou você a fazer uma coisa dessas?
11 Abraham answerde, Y thouyte with me, and seide, in hap the drede of God is not in this place; and thei schulen sle me for my wijf;
11 Abraão respondeu: — É que eu pensei: “Certamente não há temor de Deus neste lugar, e eles me matarão por causa de minha mulher.”
12 in other maner forsothe and sche is my sister verili, the douyter of my fadir, and not the douyter of my moder; and Y weddide hir in to wijf;
12 Por outro lado, ela é, de fato, minha irmã por parte de pai, embora não por parte de mãe; e veio a ser minha mulher.
13 sotheli aftir that God ladde me out of the hous of my fadir, Y seide to hir, Thou schalt do this mercy with me in ech place to which we schulen entre; thou schalt seie, that Y am thi brother.
13 Quando Deus me fez sair da casa de meu pai para andar errante por aí, eu disse a ela: “Este é o favor que você me fará: em todo lugar para onde formos você dirá que eu sou o seu irmão.”
14 Therfore Abymelech took scheep, and oxun, and seruauntis, and handmaydenes, and yaf to Abraham; and he yeldide to him Sare, `his wijf, and seide, The lond is bifor you;
14 Então Abimeleque tomou ovelhas, bois, servos e servas e os deu a Abraão; e lhe devolveu Sara, sua mulher.
15 dwelle thou, where euere it plesith thee. Forsothe Abymelech seide to Sare, Lo!
15 Abimeleque disse: — A minha terra está diante de você; more onde melhor lhe parecer.
16 Y yaf a thousand platis of siluer to thi brother; this schal be to thee in to hiling of iyen to al men that ben with thee; and whider euere thou goist, haue thou mynde that thou art takun.
16 E a Sara ele disse: — Dei mil moedas de prata ao seu irmão, como compensação por tudo o que aconteceu com você; e diante de todos você está justificada.
17 Sotheli for Abraham preiede, God curide Abymelech, and his wijf, and handmaydens, and thei childiden;
17 Abraão intercedeu junto a Deus e ele curou Abimeleque, a mulher e as servas dele, de modo que elas pudessem ter filhos.
18 for God hadde closid ech wombe of the hows of Abymelech, for Sare, the wijf of Abraham.
18 Porque o Senhor havia tornado estéreis todas as mulheres da casa de Abimeleque, por causa de Sara, mulher de Abraão.
