1 And the prynce of prestis seide to Steuene, Whethir these thingis han hem so?
1 O Grande Sacerdote perguntou a Estêvão: — O que essas pessoas estão dizendo é verdade?
2 Which seide, Britheren and fadris, here ye. God of glorie apperide to oure fadir Abraham, whanne he was in Mesopotamie, bifor that he dwelte in Carram, and seide to hym,
2 Estêvão respondeu: — Irmãos e pais, escutem! O
3 Go out of thi loond, and of thi kynrede, and come in to the loond, which Y schal schewe to thee.
3 E Deus lhe disse: “Saia da sua terra e do meio dos seus parentes e vá para uma terra que eu lhe mostrarei.”
4 Thanne he wente out of the loond of Caldeis, and dwelte in Carram. And fro thens aftir that his fader was deed, he translatide him in to this loond, in which ye dwellen now.
4 Então ele saiu da Caldeia e foi morar em Harã. Depois que o pai dele morreu, Deus trouxe Abraão para esta terra onde vocês agora estão morando.
5 And he yaf not to hym eritage in it, nethir a paas of a foot, but he bihiyte to yyue hym it in to possessioun, and to his seed aftir hym, whanne he hadde not a sone.
5 Ele não deu a Abraão nem mesmo um palmo desta terra, mas prometeu que ia lhe dar toda esta terra e que depois ela seria dos seus descendentes. Quando Deus fez essa promessa, Abraão ainda não tinha filhos.
6 And God spak to hym, That his seed schal be comling in an alien lond, and thei schulen make hem suget to seruage, and schulen yuel trete hem, foure hundrid yeris and thritti;
6 Ele disse a Abraão: “Os seus descendentes vão viver como estrangeiros em outra terra. Ali eles serão escravos e serão maltratados durante quatrocentos anos.”
7 and Y schal iuge the folk, to which thei schulen serue, seith the Lord. And after these thingis thei schulen go out, and thei schulen serue to me in this place.
7 — E Deus disse ainda: “Eu castigarei a nação que os escravizar. Depois disso eles voltarão daquela terra e me adorarão neste lugar.”
8 And he yaf to hym the testament of circumcisioun; and so he gendride Ysaac, and circumcidide hym in the eiyt dai. And Isaac gendride Jacob, and Jacob gendride the twelue patriarkis.
8 Deus deu a Abraão a cerimônia da circuncisão como prova da aliança que fez com ele. Por isso Abraão circuncidou o seu filho Isaque uma semana depois do seu nascimento. Isaque circuncidou o seu filho Jacó, e Jacó fez o mesmo com os seus doze filhos, os patriarcas .
9 And the patriarkis hadden enuye to Joseph, and selden hym in to Egipt.
9 Estêvão continuou: — Os irmãos de José tinham inveja dele e o venderam para ser escravo no Egito. Mas Deus estava com ele
10 And God was with hym, and delyuerede hym of alle hise tribulaciouns, and yaf to hym grace and wisdom in the siyt of Farao, king of Egipt. And he ordeynede hym souereyn on Egipt, and on al his hous.
10 e o livrou de todas as suas aflições. Quando José apareceu diante de Faraó, rei do Egito, Deus lhe deu sabedoria e modos agradáveis. E Faraó o nomeou governador do Egito e do palácio do rei.
11 And hungur cam in to al Egipt, and Canaan, and greet tribulacioun; and oure fadris founden not mete.
11 Depois houve falta de alimentos e muito sofrimento no Egito e em Canaã, e os nossos antepassados não tinham mais o que comer.
12 But whanne Jacob hadde herd, that whete was in Egipt, he sente oure fadris first.
12 Mais tarde, Jacó ouviu dizer que no Egito havia trigo e mandou pela primeira vez os nossos antepassados até lá.
13 And in the secounde tyme Joseph was knowun of hise britheren, and his kyn was maad knowun to Farao.
13 Na segunda vez José contou aos seus irmãos quem ele era, e Faraó ficou sabendo da família de José.
14 And Joseph sente, and clepide Jacob, his fadir, and al his kynrede, seuenti and fyue men.
14 Então José mandou buscar o seu pai Jacó e todos os seus parentes, a fim de irem para o Egito; eram setenta e cinco pessoas ao todo.
15 And Jacob cam doun in to Egipt, and was deed, he and oure fadris;
15 Jacó foi para o Egito, e ali ele e os nossos antepassados ficaram morando até o dia da morte deles.
16 and thei weren translatid in to Sichen, and weren leid in the sepulcre, that Abraham bouyte bi prijs of siluer of the sones of Emor, the sone of Sichen.
16 Depois os corpos deles foram trazidos para Siquém e postos no túmulo que Abraão tinha comprado dos descendentes de Hamor por um certo preço.
17 And whanne the tyme of biheeste cam niy, which God hadde knoulechid to Abraham, the puple waxede, and multipliede in Egipt,
17 — Quando estava chegando o tempo de Deus cumprir o juramento que havia feito a Abraão, o nosso povo tinha aumentado muito no Egito.
18 til another kyng roos in Egipt, which knewe not Joseph.
18 Então um rei que não sabia nada a respeito de José começou a governar o Egito.
19 This bigilide oure kyn, and turmentide oure fadris, that thei schulden putte awey her yonge children, for thei schulden not lyue.
19 Esse rei enganou e maltratou os nossos antepassados, a ponto de obrigá-los a abandonar as suas próprias criancinhas para que elas morressem.
20 In the same tyme Moyses was borun, and he was louyd of God; and he was norischid thre monethis in the hous of his fadir.
20 Nesse tempo nasceu Moisés, que era uma linda criança, e durante três meses os seus pais cuidaram dele em casa.
21 And whanne he was put out in the flood, the douyter of Farao took hym vp, and nurischide hym in to hir sone.
21 Mas, quando tiveram de abandoná-lo, a filha do rei o adotou e criou como seu próprio filho.
22 And Moises was lerned in al the wisdom of Egipcians, and he was myyti in his wordis and werkis.
22 E assim ele foi instruído em toda a ciência dos egípcios e se tornou um homem que falava e agia com autoridade.
23 But whanne the tyme of fourti yeer was fillid to hym, it roos vp `in to his herte, that he schulde visite hise britheren, the sones of Israel.
23 Estêvão disse ainda: — Quando Moisés já estava com quarenta anos, resolveu ir ver a sua gente, os israelitas.
24 And whanne he say a man suffringe wronge, he vengide hym, and dide veniaunce for hym that suffride the wronge, and he killide the Egipcian.
24 Ali viu um egípcio maltratando um homem do seu povo. Então defendeu o israelita e o vingou, matando o egípcio.
25 For he gesside that his britheren schulden vndurstonde, that God schulde yyue to hem helthe bi the hoond of hym; but thei vndurstoden not.
25 Moisés pensava que os israelitas entenderiam que Deus ia libertá-los por meio dele, mas eles não entenderam.
26 For in the dai suynge he apperide to hem chidinge, and he acordide hem in pees, and seide, Men, ye ben britheren; whi noyen ye ech othere?
26 No dia seguinte Moisés viu dois israelitas brigando. E, tentando apartar a briga, disse: “Homens, escutem! Vocês são irmãos; por que estão brigando?”
27 But he that dide the wronge to his neiybore, puttide hym awey, and seide, Who ordeynede thee prince and domesman on vs?
27 — Mas aquele que estava maltratando o outro empurrou Moisés para um lado e disse: “Quem pôs você como nosso chefe ou nosso juiz?
28 Whethir thou wolt sle me, as yistirdai thou killidist the Egipcian?
28 Você está querendo me matar como matou o egípcio ontem?”
29 And in this word Moises flei, and was maad a comeling in the loond of Madian, where he bigat twei sones.
29 Quando Moisés ouviu isso, fugiu do Egito e foi morar na terra de Midiã, e ali nasceram dois filhos dele.
30 And whanne he hadde fillid fourti yeer, an aungel apperide to hym in fier of flawme of a buysch, in desert of the mount of Syna.
30 — Quarenta anos mais tarde, quando Moisés estava no deserto, perto do monte Sinai, um anjo apareceu a ele, no meio do fogo de um espinheiro que estava queimando.
31 And Moises siy, and wondride on the siyt. And whanne he neiyede to biholde, the vois of the Lord was maad to hym,
31 Moisés ficou admirado com o que estava vendo e chegou perto para ver melhor. Então ouviu a voz do Senhor, que disse:
32 and seide, Y am God of youre fadris, God of Abraham, God of Ysaac, God of Jacob. Moises was maad tremblynge, and durste not biholde.
32 “Eu sou o Deus dos seus antepassados, o Deus de Abraão, de Isaque e de Jacó.” Moisés tremia de medo e não tinha coragem de olhar.
33 But God seide to hym, Do of the schoon of thi feet, for the place in which thou stondist is hooli erthe.
33 Então o Senhor disse: “Tire as sandálias, pois o lugar onde você está é um lugar sagrado.
34 Y seynge say the turmentyng of my puple that is in Egipt, and Y herde the mornyng of hem, and Y cam doun to delyuere hem. And now come thou, and Y schal sende thee in to Egipt.
34 Eu tenho visto como o meu povo está sendo maltratado no Egito; tenho ouvido os gemidos deles e desci para libertá-los. Agora vou mandar você para o Egito.”
35 This Moises whom thei denyeden, seiynge, Who ordeynede thee prince and domesman on vs? God sente this prince and ayenbiere, with the hoond of the aungel, that apperide to hym in the busch.
35 E Estêvão continuou: — Esse mesmo Moisés foi rejeitado pelo povo de Israel. Eles lhe perguntaram: “Quem pôs você como nosso chefe ou nosso juiz?” Deus enviou esse Moisés como líder e libertador, com a ajuda do anjo que apareceu no espinheiro.
36 This Moises ledde hem out, and dide wondris and signes in the loond of Egipt, and in the reed see, and in desert fourti yeeris.
36 Foi ele quem tirou os israelitas do Egito, fazendo milagres e maravilhas naquela terra, e também no mar Vermelho, e no deserto, durante quarenta anos.
37 This is Moises, that seide to the sones of Israel, God schal reise to you a profete of youre bretheren, as me ye schulen here him.
37 Foi esse mesmo Moisés quem disse aos israelitas: “Do meio de vocês Deus escolherá e enviará para vocês um profeta , assim como ele me enviou.”
38 This it is, that was in the chirche in wildirnesse, with the aungel that spak to hym in the mount of Syna, and with oure fadris; which took words of lijf to yyue to vs.
38 Foi Moisés quem esteve com os israelitas reunidos no deserto; ele esteve lá com os nossos antepassados e com o anjo que falou com ele no monte Sinai. E foi Moisés quem recebeu e nos entregou as mensagens vivas de Deus.
39 To whom oure fadris wolden not obeie, but puttiden hym awei, and weren turned awei in hertis in to Egipt,
39 — Os nossos antepassados não quiseram obedecer a Moisés, mas o rejeitaram e queriam voltar para o Egito.
40 seiynge to Aaron, Make thou to vs goddis, that schulen go bifore vs; for to this Moyses that ledde vs out of the lond of Egipt, we witen not what is don to hym.
40 Eles disseram a Arão: “Faça para nós deuses que irão à nossa frente. Não sabemos o que aconteceu com Moisés, aquele homem que nos tirou do Egito.”
41 And thei maden a calf in tho daies, and offriden a sacrifice to the mawmet; and thei weren glad in the werkis of her hondis.
41 Então fizeram uma imagem em forma de bezerro e mataram animais para oferecer a ela como sacrifício . Depois deram uma festa em honra da imagem que eles mesmos tinham feito.
42 And God turnede, and bitook hem to serue to the knyythod of heuene, as it is writun in the book of profetis, Whether ye, hous of Israel, offriden to me slayn sacrificis, ether sacrificis, fourti yeris in desert?
42 Mas Deus se afastou deles e deixou que adorassem as estrelas do céu, como está escrito no Livro dos Profetas : “Ó povo de Israel, não foi para mim que vocês mataram e ofereceram animais em durante quarenta anos no deserto.
43 And ye han take the tabernacle of Moloc, and the sterre of youre god Renfam, figuris that ye han maad to worschipe hem; and Y schal translate you in to Babiloyn.
43 Vocês carregaram a barraca do deus e também a imagem da estrela de Raifã , o deus de vocês. Esses eram ídolos que vocês tinham feito para adorar. Por isso vou mandar vocês para além da Babilônia.”
44 The tabernacle of witnessing was with oure fadris in desert, as God disposide to hem, and spak to Moyses, that he schulde make it aftir the fourme that he say.
44 — No deserto, os nossos antepassados tinham consigo a Tenda da Presença de Deus . Essa Tenda foi feita como Deus tinha mandado Moisés fazer, de acordo com o modelo que Deus lhe havia mostrado.
45 Which also oure fadris token with Jhesu, and brouyten in to the possessioun of hethene men, whiche God puttide awey fro the face of oure fadris, til in to the daies of Dauid,
45 Eles tinham recebido a Tenda dos seus antepassados e a levaram quando foram com Josué e conquistaram as terras das nações que Deus expulsou de diante deles. A Tenda ficou lá com eles até o tempo de Davi.
46 that fonde grace anentis God, and axide that he schulde fynde a tabernacle to God of Jacob.
46 Davi recebeu a aprovação de Deus e pediu licença para construir uma casa para o Deus de Jacó.
47 But Salomon bildide the hous `to hym.
47 Mas foi Salomão quem construiu a casa de Deus.
48 But the hiy God dwellith not in thingis maad bi hoond,
48 — Porém o Altíssimo não mora em casas construídas por seres humanos. Como disse o profeta:
49 as he seith bi the profete, Heuene is a seete to me, and the erthe is the stool of my feet; what hous schulen ye bilde to me, seith the Lord, ether what place is of my restyng?
49 “O céu é o meu trono, diz o Senhor, e a terra é o estrado onde descanso os meus pés. Que tipo de casa vocês poderiam construir para mim? Como conseguiriam construir um lugar onde eu pudesse morar?
50 Whether myn hoond made not alle these thingis?
50 Por acaso não fui eu quem fez todas as coisas?”
51 With hard nol, and vncircumcidid hertis and eris ye withstoden eueremore the Hooli Goost; and as youre fadris, so ye.
51 E Estêvão terminou, dizendo: — Como vocês são teimosos! Como são duros de coração e surdos para ouvir a mensagem de Deus! Vocês sempre têm rejeitado o Espírito Santo, como os seus antepassados rejeitaram.
52 Whom of the profetis han not youre fadris pursued, and han slayn hem that bifor telden of the comyng of the riytful man, whos traitouris and mansleeris ye weren now?
52 Qual foi o profeta que os antepassados de vocês não perseguiram? Eles mataram os mensageiros de Deus que no passado anunciaram a vinda do Bom Servo . E agora vocês o traíram e o mataram.
53 Whiche token the lawe in ordynaunce of aungels, and han not kept it.
53 Vocês receberam a lei por meio de anjos e não têm obedecido a essa lei.
54 And thei herden these thingis, and weren dyuersli turmentid in her hertis, and grenneden with teeth on hym.
54 Quando os membros do Conselho Superior acabaram de ouvir o que Estêvão tinha dito, ficaram furiosos e rangeram os dentes contra ele.
55 But whanne Steuene was ful of the Hooli Goost, he bihelde in to heuene, and say the glorie of God, and Jhesu stondinge on the riythalf of the vertu of God. And he seide, Lo! Y se heuenes openyd, and mannus sone stondynge on the riythalf of the vertu of God.
55 Mas Estêvão, cheio do Espírito Santo, olhou firmemente para o céu e viu a glória de Deus. E viu também Jesus em pé, ao lado direito de Deus.
56 And thei crieden with a greet vois, and stoppiden her eris, and maden with o wille an assauyt in to hym.
56 Então disse: — Olhem! Eu estou vendo o céu aberto e o
57 And thei brouyten hym out of the citee, and stonyden. And the witnessis diden of her clothis, bisidis the feet of a yong man, that was clepid Saule.
57 Mas eles taparam os ouvidos e, gritando bem alto, avançaram todos juntos contra Estêvão.
58 And thei stonyden Steuene, that clepide God to help, seiynge, Lord Jhesu, resseyue my spirit.
58 Depois o jogaram para fora da cidade e o apedrejaram. E as testemunhas deixaram um moço chamado Saulo tomando conta das suas capas .
59 And he knelide, and criede with a greet vois, and seide, Lord, sette not to hem this synne. And whanne he hadde seid this thing, he diede.
59 Enquanto eles atiravam as pedras, Estêvão chamava Jesus, dizendo: — Senhor Jesus, recebe o meu espírito!
60 — ausente —
60 Depois, ajoelhou-se e gritou com voz bem forte: — Senhor, não condenes esta gente por causa deste pecado! E, depois que disse isso, ele morreu.
