1 And whanne kyng Ezechie hadde herd these thingis, he to-rente his clothis, and was hilid with a sak; and he entride in to the hous of the Lord.
1 Assim que o rei Ezequias ouviu o que eles contaram, rasgou as suas roupas em sinal de tristeza, vestiu uma roupa feita de pano grosseiro e foi para o Templo do Senhor .
2 And he sente Eliachym, souereyn of the hous, and Sobna, scryueyn, and elde men of the preestis, hilid with sackis, to Ysaie, the prophete, sone of Amos.
2 Ele mandou que Eliaquim, o encarregado do palácio, Sebna, o escrivão, e os sacerdotes mais velhos fossem falar com o profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz. Eles também estavam vestindo roupas de pano grosseiro.
3 Whiche seiden, Ezechie seith these thingis, This dai is a dai of tribulacioun, and of blamyng, and of blasfemye; sones camen `til to the childberyng, and the `traueler of childe hath not strengthis.
3 A mensagem que o rei mandou entregar a Isaías foi esta: “Hoje é um dia de sofrimento; nós estamos sendo castigados e estamos envergonhados. Somos como uma mulher que está para dar à luz, mas não tem forças para isso.
4 If perauenture thi Lord God here alle the wordis of Rabsaces, whom the kyng of Assiryens, his lord sente, that he schulde dispise the Lord lyuynge, and repreue bi wordis, whiche thi Lord God herde; and make thou preier for these relikis, that ben foundun.
4 O rei da Assíria nos mandou o chefe do seu exército para insultar o Deus vivo. Que o Senhor , nosso Deus, escute esses insultos e castigue quem os disse! Portanto, ore a Deus pelas pessoas do nosso povo que ainda estão vivas.”
5 Therfor the seruauntis of kyng Ezechie camen to Isaie;
5 Os funcionários do rei Ezequias levaram a mensagem,
6 and Isaie seide to hem, Seie ye these thingis to youre lord, The Lord seith these thingis, Nyle thou drede of the face of wordis whiche thou herdist, bi whiche the children of the kyng of Assiriens blasfemeden me.
6 e Isaías mandou esta resposta: “O Senhor Deus diz que o senhor não deve deixar que os assírios o assustem, dizendo que Deus não pode salvá-lo.
7 Lo! Y schal sende to hym a spirit, and he schal here a messanger, and he schal turne ayen in to his lond; and Y schal caste hym doun bi swerd in his owne lond.
7 Deus vai fazer o rei assírio ouvir uma notícia que o fará voltar para a terra dele, e Deus vai fazer com que ele seja morto ali.”
8 Therfor Rabsaces turnede ayen, and foond the kyng of Assiriens fiytynge ayens Lobna; for he hadde herd, that the kyng hadde go awei fro Lachis.
8 O oficial assírio soube que o rei da Assíria havia saído de Laquis e que estava lutando contra a cidade de Libna. Então foi até lá para falar com ele.
9 And whanne he hadde herd of Theracha, kyng of Ethiope, `men seyynge, Lo! he yede out, that he fiyte ayens thee; that he schulde go ayens `that kyng, he sente messangeris to Ezechie,
9 Os assírios souberam que o exército dos egípcios, comandado pelo rei Tiraca, da Etiópia, vinha vindo para atacá-los. Quando o rei da Assíria soube disso, mandou uma carta para o rei Ezequias, de Judá.
10 and seide, Seie ye these thingis to Ezechie, kyng of Juda, Thi Lord God, in whom thou hast trist, disseyue not thee, nether seie thou, Jerusalem schal not be `bitakun in to the hondis of the kyng of Assiriens;
10 A carta dizia assim: “O seu deus, em quem você confia, lhe disse que Jerusalém não vai cair nas minhas mãos; mas não deixe que ele o engane.
11 for thou thi silf herdist what thingis the kyngis of Assiriens diden in alle londis, hou thei wastiden tho; whether therfor thou aloone maist be delyuered?
11 Você já ouviu falar daquilo que um rei assírio faz com qualquer país que ele resolve destruir? Por acaso, você pensa que poderá escapar?
12 Whether the goddis of hethene men delyueriden alle men whiche my fadris distrieden, that is, Gozam, and Aran, and Reseph, and the sones of Eden, that weren in Thelassar?
12 Os meus antepassados destruíram as cidades de Gozã, Harã e Rezefe e mataram o povo de Éden, que morava em Telassar, e nenhum dos seus deuses os pôde salvar.
13 Where is the kyng of Emath, and the kyng of Arphat? and the kyng of the cytee of Sepharuaym, of Ana, and of Aua?
13 Onde estão os reis das cidades de Hamate, Arpade, Sefarvaim, Hena e Iva?”
14 Therfor whanne Ezechie hadde take the lettris fro the hond of messangeris, and hadde red tho, he stiede in to the hows of the Lord, and spredde abrood tho bifor the Lord;
14 O rei Ezequias recebeu a carta das mãos dos mensageiros e a leu. Então foi até o Templo, pôs a carta ali, na presença de Deus, o Senhor ,
15 and preiede in his siyt, and seide, Lord God of Israel, that sittist on cherubym, thou art God aloone of alle kyngis of erthe; thou madist heuene and erthe.
15 e orou assim: — Ó
16 Bowe thin eere, and here; opyn thin iyen, Lord, and se; and here alle the wordis of Senacherib, which sente, that he schulde dispise `to vs `God lyuynge.
16 Ó Senhor , olha para o que está acontecendo com a gente. Escuta todas as coisas que Senaqueribe está dizendo a fim de insultar a ti, o Deus vivo.
17 Verili, Lord, the kynges of Assiriens distrieden hethene men, and the londis of alle men,
17 Todos nós sabemos, ó Senhor , que os reis da Assíria destruíram muitas nações, arrasaram as suas terras
18 and senten the goddis of hem in to fier; for thei weren not goddis, but werkis of `hondis of men, of tre and stoon; and thei losten `tho goddis.
18 e queimaram os seus deuses, que não eram deuses de verdade e sim imagens de madeira e de pedra feitas por mãos humanas.
19 Now therfor, oure Lord God, make vs saaf fro the hond of hem, that alle rewmes of erthe wite that thou art the Lord God aloone.
19 Agora, ó Senhor , nosso Deus, salva-nos dos assírios, para que todas as nações do mundo fiquem sabendo que só tu, ó Senhor , és Deus.
20 Forsothe Isaie, sone of Amos, sente to Ezechie, and seide, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Y haue herd tho thingis, whiche thou preidist me on Sennacherib, king of Assiriens.
20 Então Isaías mandou uma mensagem para o rei Ezequias. Nela, ele dizia que, em resposta à oração do rei,
21 This is the word, which the Lord spak of hym, Thou virgyn douytir of Syon, he dispiside thee, and scornyde thee; thou douyter of Jerusalem, he mouyde his heed aftir thi bak.
21 o Senhor , o Deus de Israel, tinha dito o seguinte: “A cidade de Jerusalém ri e caçoa de você, Senaqueribe.
22 Sennacherib, whom `dispisidist thou, and whom `blasfemedist thou? Ayens whom hast thou reisid thi vois, and hast reisid thin iyen an hiye? Ayens the hooli of Israel.
22 Contra quem você pensa que falou? Para quem você olhou com orgulho? A quem você pensa que ofendeu e insultou? Você fez tudo isso contra mim, o Santo Deus de Israel.
23 Bi the hond of thi seruauntis thou dispisidist the Lord, and seidist, In the multitude of my charys Y stiede in to the hiye thingis of hillis, in the hiynesse of Liban, and kittide doun the hiye cedris therof, and the chosyn beechis therof; and Y entride `til to the termes therof,
23 Você me mandou os seus mensageiros para se gabarem de que com os seus muitos carros de guerra você conquistou as mais altas montanhas do Líbano. Você se gabou de ter cortado os mais altos cedros e os melhores ciprestes e de ter chegado até os lugares mais distantes das lindas florestas.
24 and Y kittide doun the forest of Carmele therof; and Y drank alien watris, and Y made drie with the steppis of `the feet of myn `alle watris closid.
24 Você se gabou de ter cavado poços em terras estrangeiras e de ter bebido da água deles. Gabou-se também de que os pés dos seus soldados fizeram secar o rio Nilo.
25 Whether thou herdist not, what Y made at the bigynnyng? Fro elde daies Y made it, and now Y haue brouyt forth; and strengthid citees of fiyteris schulen be in to fallyng of hillis.
25 “Por acaso, você não sabe que fui eu que planejei tudo isso há muito tempo e agora fiz tudo acontecer? Eu dei a você o poder de fazer cidades cercadas de muralhas virarem montões de entulho.
26 And thei that sitten meke of hond in tho, trembliden togidere, and ben schent; thei ben maad as the hei of the feeld, and as grene eerbe of roouys, which is dried, bifor that it cam to ripenesse.
26 Por isso, os seus moradores ficaram fracos e andavam cheios de medo e de vergonha. Eles ficaram como o capim do campo e a erva verde e como a erva que cresce nos telhados, quando o vento quente do leste sopra e os faz secar.
27 And Y bifor knew thi dwellyng, and thi goyng out, and thin entryng, and thi weie, and thi woodnesse ayens me.
27 “Mas eu o conheço muito bem; sei o que você faz e aonde vai. Sei que você me odeia.
28 Thou were wood ayens me, and thi pride stide in to myn eeris; therfor Y schal putte a cercle in thi nosethirlis, and a bernacle in thi lippis, and Y schal lede thee ayen in to the weie bi which thou camest.
28 Eu soube do seu ódio e do seu orgulho, e agora vou pôr uma argola no seu nariz e um freio na sua boca, e farei você voltar pelo mesmo caminho por onde veio.”
29 Forsothe, Ezechie, this schal be a signe `to thee; ete thou in this yeer that, that thou fyndist; forsothe in the secounde yeer tho thingis, that growen bi her owne wille; sotheli in the thridde yeer sowe ye, and repe ye, plaunte ye vyneris, and ete the fruytis of tho.
29 Depois Isaías disse ao rei Ezequias: — Este é o sinal daquilo que vai acontecer: neste ano e no ano que vem, vocês terão para comer somente aquilo que nascer por si mesmo, sem ser plantado. Mas no ano seguinte vocês poderão semear e colher cereais, plantar
30 And what euer thing schal be residue of the hows of Juda, it schal sende root dounward, and schal make fruyt vpward.
30 As pessoas de Judá que não tiverem morrido vão florescer como plantas que firmam as suas raízes na terra e dão frutas.
31 For relikis schulen go out of Jerusalem, and that, that schal be sauyd, `schal go out of the hil of Syon; the feruent loue of the Lord of oostis schal do this.
31 Pois ficará gente em Jerusalém e no monte Sião porque o Senhor Deus resolveu fazer com que isso aconteça.
32 Wherfor the Lord seith these thingis of the kyng of Assiriens, He schal not entre in to this citee, nethir he schal sende an arowe in to it, nether scheeld shal occupie it, nether strengthing, ethir bisegyng, schal cumpasse it.
32 Isaías continuou: — Portanto, o
33 He schal turne ayen bi the weie `bi which he cam, and he schal not entre in to this citee, seith the Lord;
33 O rei da Assíria vai voltar pelo mesmo caminho por onde veio, sem ter entrado nesta cidade.
34 and Y schal defende this citee, and Y schal saue it for me, and for Dauid, my seruaunt.
34 Eu defenderei e protegerei esta cidade por causa da minha honra e por causa da promessa que fiz ao meu servo Davi. Eu, o Senhor , falei.”
35 Therfor it was don, in that niyt the aungel of the Lord cam, and smoot in the castels of Assiryens an hundrid foure score and fyue thousynde. And whanne Sennacherib hadde rise eerli, he siy alle bodies of deed men; and he departide, and yede awei.
35 Naquela noite o Anjo do Senhor foi até o acampamento dos assírios e matou cento e oitenta e cinco mil soldados. De manhã, os que sobraram viram os corpos dos mortos.
36 And Sennacherib, the kyng of Assiriens, turnede ayen, and dwellide in Nynyue.
36 Então Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, se retirou, voltou para Nínive e ficou lá.
37 And whanne he worschipide in the temple Nestrach his god, Adramelech and Sirasar, his sones, killide hym with swerd; and thei fledden in to the lond of Armenyes; and Asaradon, his sone, regnyde for hym.
37 Certo dia, quando ele estava adorando no templo do seu deus Nisroque, os seus filhos Adrameleque e Sarezer o mataram à espada e fugiram para a terra de Ararate. Outro filho seu, chamado Esar-Hadom, ficou no lugar dele como rei.
