1 Lo! ye moost dereworth britheren, Y write to you this secounde epistle, in which Y stire youre clere soule bi monesting togidere,
1 Esta segunda carta, amados, escrevo-vos agora, em ambas as quais desperto vossas mentes puras por meio de recordações.
2 that ye be myndeful of tho wordis, that Y biforseide of the hooli prophetis, and of the maundementis of the hooli apostlis of the Lord and sauyour.
2 Para que vos lembreis das palavras que foram ditas antes pelos santos profetas, e do nosso mandamento, os apóstolos do Senhor e Salvador.
3 First wite ye this thing, that in the laste daies disseyueris schulen come in disseit, goynge aftir her owne coueityngis,
3 Sabendo disto primeiro, que virão, nos últimos dias, escarnecedores, andando conforme as suas próprias concupiscências,
4 seiynge, Where is the biheest, or the comyng of hym? for sithen the fadris dieden, alle thingis lasten fro the bigynnyng of creature.
4 e dizendo: Onde está a promessa da sua vinda? Porque desde que os pais dormiram, todas as coisas continuam como eram desde o princípio da criação.
5 But it is hid fro hem willynge this thing, that heuenes were bifore, and the erthe of water was stondynge bi watir, of Goddis word;
5 E nisto eles são voluntariamente ignorantes, que pela palavra de Deus os céus existiam desde a antiguidade, e a terra, que permanece fora da água e dentro da água.
6 bi which that ilke world clensid, thanne bi watir perischide.
6 Por onde o mundo que estava então, sendo transbordado com água, pereceu.
7 But the heuenes that now ben, and the erthe, ben kept bi the same word, and ben reseruyd to fier in to the dai of doom and perdicioun of wickid men.
7 Mas os céus e a terra, que existem agora, pela mesma palavra estão reservados para o fogo, até o dia do juízo, e da perdição dos homens ímpios.
8 But, ye moost dere, this o thing be not hid to you, that o dai anentis God is as a thousynde yeeris, and a thousynde yeeris ben as o dai.
8 Mas, amados, não ignoreis uma coisa, que um dia é para o Senhor como mil anos, e mil anos como um dia.
9 The Lord tarieth not his biheest, as summe gessen, but he doith pacientli for you, and wole not that ony men perische, but that alle turne ayen to penaunce.
9 O Senhor não é tardio a respeito de sua promessa, ainda que alguns homens a têm por tardia; mas é longânimo para conosco, não querendo que nenhum se perca, senão que todos cheguem ao arrependimento.
10 For the dai of the Lord schal come as a theef, in which heuenes with greet bire schulen passe, and elementis schulen be dissoluyd bi heete, and the erthe, and alle the werkis that ben in it, schulen be brent.
10 Mas o dia do Senhor virá como o ladrão de noite; no qual os céus passarão com grande estrondo, e os elementos hão de derreter com calor intenso, e a terra e as obras que nela há se queimarão.
11 Therfor whanne alle these thingis schulen be dissolued, what manner men bihoueth it you to be in hooli lyuyngis and pitees,
11 Visto então que todas essas coisas serão dissolvidas, que tipo de pessoas deveis ser em toda santa conversação e piedade,
12 abidinge and hiyynge in to the comyng of the dai of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, bi whom heuenes brennynge schulen be dissoluyd, and elementis schulen faile bi brennyng of fier.
12 aguardando, e apressando-vos para a vinda do dia de Deus, quando os céus, em fogo serão dissolvidos, e os elementos ao calor fervente derreter-se-ão?
13 Also we abiden bi hise biheestis newe heuenes and newe erthe, in which riytwisnesse dwellith.
13 Mas nós, de acordo com a sua promessa, aguardamos novos céus e uma nova terra, onde habita a justiça.
14 For which thing, ye moost dere, abidynge these thingis, be ye bisye to be foundun to hym in pees vnspottid and vndefoulid.
14 Por isso, amados, visto que aguardamos estas coisas, sede diligentes para que por ele sejais achados em paz, sem mácula e irrepreensíveis.
15 And deme ye long abiding of oure Lord Jhesu Crist youre heelthe, as also oure moost dere brother Poul wroot to you, bi wisdom youun to hym.
15 E considere que a longanimidade de nosso Senhor é a salvação; como também o nosso amado irmão Paulo, segundo a sabedoria que lhe foi conferida, vos escreveu.
16 As and in alle epistlis he spekith `in hem of these thingis; in which ben summe hard thingis to vndurstonde, whiche vnwise and vnstable men deprauen, as also thei don othere scripturis, to her owne perdicioun.
16 Como em todas as suas cartas, fala sobre estas coisas, nas quais há algumas coisas difíceis de entender, que os ignorantes e instáveis deturpam, e como também as outras escrituras, para sua própria destruição.
17 Therfor ye, britheren, bifor witynge kepe you silf, lest ye be disseyued bi errour of vnwise men, and falle awei fro youre owne sadnesse.
17 Vós, portanto, amados, visto que sabeis destas coisas de antemão, cuidai para que não vos deixeis levar pelo erro dos perversos, e acabeis caindo de vossa própria firmeza.
18 But wexe ye in the grace and the knowyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist and oure Sauyour; to hym be glorie now and in to the dai of euerlastyngnesse. Amen.
18 Porém crescei na graça e conhecimento de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo. A ele seja dada a glória, tanto agora, como para sempre. Amém.
