1 What euere seruauntis ben vndur yok, deme thei her lordis worthi al onour, lest the name of the Lord and the doctryn be blasfemyd.
1 Todos os que estão sob o jugo da escravidão devem considerar seus senhores como dignos de todo o respeito, para que o nome de Deus e o nosso ensino não sejam blasfemados.
2 And thei that han feithful lordis, dispise hem not, for thei ben britheren; but more serue thei, for thei ben feithful and louyd, whiche ben parceneris of benefice. Teche thou these thingis, and moneste thou these thingis.
2 Os que têm senhores crentes não devem ter por eles menos respeito, pelo fato de serem irmãos; pelo contrário, devem servi-los ainda melhor, porque os que se beneficiam do seu serviço são fiéis e amados. Ensine e recomende essas coisas.
3 If ony man techith othere wise, and acordith not to the hoolsum wordis of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, and to that teching that is bi pitee,
3 Se alguém ensina falsas doutrinas e não concorda com a sã doutrina de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e com o ensino que é segundo a piedade,
4 he is proud, and kan no thing, but langwischith aboute questiouns and stryuyng of wordis, of the whiche ben brouyt forth enuyes, stryues, blasfemyes, yuele suspiciouns, fiytingis of men,
4 é orgulhoso e nada entende. Esse tal mostra um interesse doentio por controvérsias e contendas acerca de palavras, que resultam em inveja, brigas, difamações, suspeitas malignas
5 that ben corrupt in soule, and that ben pryued fro treuthe, that demen wynnyng to be pitee.
5 e atritos constantes entre pessoas que têm a mente corrompida e que são privados da verdade, os quais pensam que a piedade é fonte de lucro.
6 But a greet wynnyng is pitee, with sufficience.
6 De fato, a piedade com contentamento é grande fonte de lucro,
7 For we brouyten in no thing in to this world, and no doute, that we moun not bere `awey ony thing.
7 pois nada trouxemos para este mundo e dele nada podemos levar;
8 But we hauynge foodis, and with what thingus we schulen be hilid, be we paied with these thingis.
8 por isso, tendo o que comer e com que vestir-nos, estejamos com isso satisfeitos.
9 For thei that wolen be maad riche, fallen in to temptacioun, and `in to snare of the deuel, and in to many vnprofitable desiris and noyous, whiche drenchen men in to deth and perdicioun.
9 Os que querem ficar ricos caem em tentação, em armadilhas e em muitos desejos descontrolados e nocivos, que levam os homens a mergulharem na ruína e na destruição,
10 For the rote of alle yuelis is coueytise, which summen coueitinge erriden fro the feith, and bisettiden hem with many sorewis.
10 pois o amor ao dinheiro é raiz de todos os males. Algumas pessoas, por cobiçarem o dinheiro, desviaram-se da fé e se atormentaram a si mesmas com muitos sofrimentos.
11 But, thou, man of God, fle these thingis; but sue thou riytwisnesse, pite, feith, charite, pacience, myldenesse.
11 Você, porém, homem de Deus, fuja de tudo isso e busque a justiça, a piedade, a fé, o amor, a perseverança e a mansidão.
12 Stryue thou a good strijf of feith, catche euerlastinge lijf, in to which thou art clepid, and hast knoulechid a good knouleching bifor many witnessis.
12 Combata o bom combate da fé. Tome posse da vida eterna, para a qual você foi chamado e fez a boa confissão na presença de muitas testemunhas.
13 I comaunde to thee bifor God, that quikeneth alle thingis, and bifor Crist Jhesu, that yeldide a witnessing vnder Pilat of Pounce, a good confessioun,
13 Diante de Deus, que a tudo dá vida, e de Cristo Jesus, que diante de Pôncio Pilatos fez a boa confissão, eu lhe recomendo:
14 that thou kepe the comaundement with out wem, with out repreef, in to the comyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist;
14 Guarde este mandamento imaculado, irrepreensível, até a manifestação de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo,
15 whom the blessid and aloone miyti king of kyngis and Lord of lordis schal schewe in his tymes.
15 a qual Deus fará se cumprir no seu devido tempo. Ele é o bendito e único Soberano, o Rei dos reis e Senhor dos senhores,
16 Which aloone hath vndeedlynesse, and dwellith in liyt, to which no man may come; whom no man say, nether may se; to whom glorie, and honour, and empire be with out ende.
16 o único que é imortal e habita em luz inacessível, a quem ninguém viu nem pode ver. A ele sejam honra e poder para sempre. Amém.
17 Amen. Comaunde thou to the riche men of this world, that thei vndurstonde not hiyli, nether that thei hope in vncerteynte of richessis, but in the lyuynge God, that yyueth to vs alle thingis plenteuously to vse;
17 Ordene aos que são ricos no presente mundo que não sejam arrogantes, nem ponham sua esperança na incerteza da riqueza, mas em Deus, que de tudo nos provê ricamente, para a nossa satisfação.
18 to do wel, to be maad riche in good werkis, liytli to yyue,
18 Ordene-lhes que pratiquem o bem, sejam ricos em boas obras, generosos e prontos para repartir.
19 to comyne, to tresoure to hem silf a good foundement in to tyme to comynge, that thei catche euerlastinge lijf.
19 Dessa forma, eles acumularão um tesouro para si mesmos, um firme fundamento para a era que há de vir, e assim alcançarão a verdadeira vida.
20 Thou Tymothe, kepe the thing bitakun to thee, eschewynge cursid noueltees of voicis, and opynyouns of fals name of kunnyng;
20 Timóteo, guarde o que lhe foi confiado. Evite as conversas inúteis e profanas e as idéias contraditórias do que é falsamente chamado conhecimento;
21 which summen bihetinge, aboute the feith fellen doun. The grace of God be with thee. Amen.
21 professando-o, alguns desviaram-se da fé. A graça seja com vocês.
