1 Sue ye charite, loue ye spiritual thingis, but more that ye prophecien.
1 Segui a caridade, e desejai os dons espirituais, mas principalmente que profetizeis.
2 And he that spekith in tunge, spekith not to men, but to God; for no man herith. But the spirit spekith mysteries.
2 Porque o que fala em uma língua desconhecida não fala aos homens, mas a Deus; porque nenhum homem o entende, sendo que em espírito ele fala mistérios.
3 For he that prophecieth, spekith to men to edificacioun, and monestyng, and coumfortyng.
3 Mas o que profetiza fala aos homens para edificação, exortação e consolação.
4 He that spekith in tunge, edifieth hym silf; but he that prophecieth, edifieth the chirche of God.
4 O que fala em uma língua desconhecida edifica-se a si mesmo, mas o que profetiza edifica a igreja.
5 And Y wole, that alle ye speke in tungis, but more that ye prophecie. For he that prophecieth, is more than he that spekith in langagis; but perauenture he expoune, that the chirche take edificacioun.
5 Eu quero que todos vós faleis em línguas; mas antes que profetizeis, porque maior é o que profetiza do que o que fala em línguas, a não ser que as interprete, para que a igreja receba edificação.
6 But now, britheren, if Y come to you, and speke in langagis, what schal Y profite to you, but if Y speke to you ethir in reuelacioun, ethir in science, ethir in prophecie, ether in techyng?
6 Agora, irmãos, se eu for até vós falando em línguas, de que vos aproveitarei? A não ser que vos fale, ou por revelação, ou por conhecimento, ou por profecia, ou por doutrina?
7 For tho thingis that ben withouten soule, and yyueth voices, ethir pipe, ether harpe, but tho yyuen distinccioun of sownyngis, hou schal it be knowun that is sungun, ether that that is trumpid?
7 E até as coisas sem vida que transmitem som, seja flauta, seja harpa, se não formarem sons distintos, como se saberá o que está sendo tocado ou dedilhado?
8 For if a trumpe yyue an vncerteyn soune, who schal make hym silf redi to batel?
8 Porque se a trombeta der um som incerto, quem se preparará para a batalha?
9 So but ye yyuen an opyn word bi tunge, hou schal that that is seid be knowun? For ye schulen be spekynge in veyn.
9 Assim também vós, a não ser que transmitais com a língua palavras bem articuladas, como se entenderá o que é falado? Porque estareis falando ao ar.
10 There ben many kyndis of langagis in this world, and no thing is with outen vois.
10 Há tantas espécies de vozes no mundo, e nenhuma delas é sem significado.
11 But if Y knowe not the vertu of a vois, Y schal be to hym, to whom Y schal speke, a barbarik; and he that spekith to me, schal be a barbarik.
11 Portanto, se eu não conhecer o significado da voz, serei, para aquele a quem falo, bárbaro, e o que fala será um bárbaro para mim.
12 So ye, for ye ben loueris of spiritis, seke ye that ye be plenteuouse to edificacioun of the chirche.
12 Assim também vós, que sois zelosos dos dons espirituais, procurai tê-los em abundância, para a edificação da igreja.
13 And therfor he that spekith in langage, preie, that he expowne.
13 Portanto, aquele que fala em língua desconhecida, ore para que a possa interpretar.
14 For if Y preye in tunge, my spirit preieth; myn vndurstondyng is with outen fruyt.
14 Porque, se eu orar em língua desconhecida, o meu espírito ora, mas o meu entendimento é infrutífero.
15 What thanne? Y schal preye in spirit, Y schal preye in mynde; Y schal seie salm, in spirit, Y schal seie salm also in mynde.
15 O que farei, pois? Eu orarei com o espírito, e também orarei com o entendimento; eu cantarei com o espírito, e também cantarei com o entendimento.
16 For if thou blessist in spirit, who fillith the place of an ydiot, hou schal he seie Amen on thi blessyng, for he woot not, what thou seist?
16 Do contrário, se tu abençoares com o espírito, como dirá amém o indouto sobre a tua ação de graças, já que não sabe o que dizes?
17 For thou doist wel thankyngis, but an othir man is not edefied.
17 Porque realmente tu dás bem as graças, mas o outro não é edificado.
18 Y thanke my God, for Y speke in the langage of alle you;
18 Eu agradeço ao meu Deus, que falo mais línguas do que vós todos;
19 but in the chirche Y wole speke fyue wordis in my wit, that also Y teche othere men, than ten thousynde of wordis in tunge.
19 todavia, eu antes quero falar na igreja cinco palavras no meu entendimento, para que pela minha voz eu possa também ensinar aos outros, do que dez mil palavras em língua desconhecida.
20 Britheren, nyle ye be maad children in wittis, but in malice be ye children; but in wittis be ye parfit.
20 Irmãos, não sejais crianças no entendimento: na malícia sede crianças, mas no entendimento sede homem.
21 For in the lawe it is writun, That in othere tungis and othere lippis Y schal speke to this puple, and nether so thei schulen here me, seith the Lord.
21 Na lei está escrito: Através de homens de outras línguas e por outros lábios, eu falarei a este povo; e ainda por todos os que não me ouvirem, diz o Senhor.
22 Therfor langagis ben in to tokene, not to feithful men, but to men out of the feith; but prophecies ben not to men out of the feith, but to feithful men.
22 Portanto as línguas são um sinal, não para os que creem, mas para os que não creem; mas a profecia não serve para os que não creem, mas para os que creem.
23 Therfor if alle the chirche come togidere in to oon, and alle men speken in tungis, if idiotis, ether men out of the feith, entren, whether thei schulen not seie, What ben ye woode?
23 Se, pois, toda a igreja se congregar em um lugar, e todos falarem em línguas, e entrarem aqueles que são iletrados ou os incrédulos, não dirão que estais loucos?
24 But if alle men prophecien, if ony vnfeithful man or idiot entre, he is conuyct of alle, he is wiseli demyd of alle.
24 Mas se todos profetizarem, e entrar um que não crê ou um iletrado, por todos é convencido, por todos é julgado;
25 For the hid thingis of his herte ben knowun, and so he schal falle doun on the face, and schal worschipe God, and schewe verili that God is in you.
25 e assim, os segredos do seu coração ficarão manifestos, e assim, prostrando-se sobre a sua face, ele adorará a Deus, relatando que Deus está verdadeiramente entre vós.
26 What thanne, britheren? Whanne ye comen togidere, ech of you hath a salm, he hath techyng, he hath apocalips, he hath tunge, he hath expownyng; alle thingis be thei don to edificacioun.
26 Como é então, irmãos? Quando vos reunis, cada um de vós tem um salmo, tem uma doutrina, tem uma língua, tem uma revelação, tem uma interpretação. Que todas as coisas sejam feitas para a edificação.
27 Whether a man spekith in tunge, bi twei men, ethir thre at the moste, and bi partis, that oon interprete.
27 Se algum homem falar em uma língua desconhecida, que seja por dois, ou no máximo em três, e a seu turno, e que alguém interprete.
28 But if there be not an interpretour, be he stille in the chirche, and speke he to hym silf and to God.
28 Mas se não houver intérprete, permaneça em silêncio na igreja, e fale consigo mesmo e com Deus.
29 Prophetis tweine or thre seie, and othere wiseli deme.
29 E falem dois ou três profetas, e os outros julguem.
30 But if ony thing be schewid to a sittere, the formere be stille.
30 Se alguma coisa for revelada ao outro que está assentado, o primeiro permaneça em silêncio.
31 For ye moun `prophecie alle, ech bi hym silf, that alle men lerne, and alle moneste.
31 Porque todos vós podeis profetizar um após o outro, para que todos aprendam e todos sejam consolados.
32 And the spiritis of prophetis ben suget to prophetis;
32 E os espíritos dos profetas estão sujeitos aos profetas.
33 for whi God is not of discencioun, but of pees; as in alle chirchis of hooli men `Y teche.
33 Porque Deus não é o autor da confusão, mas da paz, como em todas as igrejas dos santos.
34 Wymmen in chirchis be stille; for it is not suffrid to hem to speke, but to be suget, as the lawe seith.
34 Vossas mulheres estejam em silêncio nas igrejas, porque não lhes é permitido falar; mas estejam sujeitas à obediência, como também diz a lei.
35 But if thei wolen ony thing lerne, `at home axe thei her hosebondis; for it is foule thing to a womman to speke in chirche.
35 E, se elas desejarem aprender alguma coisa, perguntem a seus maridos em casa; porque é vergonhoso que as mulheres falem na igreja.
36 Whether `of you the word of God cam forth, or to you aloone it cam?
36 Porventura, a palavra de Deus partiu de vós, ou somente chegou até vós?
37 If ony man is seyn to be a prophete, or spiritual, knowe he tho thingis that Y write to you, for tho ben the comaundementis of the Lord.
37 Se algum homem pensa ser profeta ou espiritual, reconheça que as coisas que eu vos escrevo são mandamentos do Senhor.
38 And if ony man vnknowith, he schal be vnknowun.
38 Mas, se algum homem o ignora, é ignorado.
39 `Therfor, britheren, loue ye to prophecie, and nyle ye forbede to speke in tungis.
39 Portanto, irmãos, desejai arduamente profetizar e não proibais falar em línguas.
40 But be alle thingis don onestli, and bi due ordre in you.
40 Todas as coisas sejam feitas decentemente e com ordem.
