1 If Y speke with tungis of men and of aungels, and Y haue not charite, Y am maad as bras sownynge, or a cymbal tynkynge.
1 Ainda que eu fale as línguas dos homens e dos anjos, se não tiver amor, serei como o bronze que soa ou como o címbalo que retine.
2 And if Y haue prophecie, and knowe alle mysteries, and al kunnynge, and if Y haue al feith, so that Y meue hillis fro her place, and Y haue not charite, Y am nouyt.
2 Ainda que eu tenha o dom de profetizar e conheça todos os mistérios e toda a ciência; ainda que eu tenha tamanha fé, a ponto de transportar montes, se não tiver amor, nada serei.
3 And if Y departe alle my goodis in to the metis of pore men, and yf Y bitake my bodi, so that Y brenne, and if Y haue not charite, it profitith to me no thing.
3 E ainda que eu distribua todos os meus bens entre os pobres e ainda que entregue o meu próprio corpo para ser queimado, se não tiver amor, isso de nada me adiantará.
4 Charite is pacient, it is benygne; charite enuyeth not, it doith not wickidli, it is not blowun,
4 O amor é paciente e bondoso. O amor não arde em ciúmes, não se envaidece, não é orgulhoso,
5 it is not coueytouse, it sekith not tho thingis that ben hise owne, it is not stirid to wraththe, it thenkith not yuel,
5 não se conduz de forma inconveniente, não busca os seus interesses, não se irrita, não se ressente do mal.
6 it ioyeth not on wickidnesse, but it ioieth togidere to treuthe;
6 O amor não se alegra com a injustiça, mas se alegra com a verdade.
7 it suffrith alle thingis, it bileueth alle thingis, it hopith alle thingis, it susteyneth alle thingis.
7 O amor tudo sofre, tudo crê, tudo espera, tudo suporta.
8 Charite fallith neuere doun, whether prophecies schulen be voidid, ethir langagis schulen ceesse, ethir science schal be distried.
8 O amor jamais acaba. Havendo profecias, desaparecerão; havendo línguas, cessarão; havendo ciência, passará.
9 For a parti we knowun, and a parti we prophecien;
9 Pois o nosso conhecimento é incompleto e a nossa profecia é incompleta.
10 but whanne that schal come that is parfit, that thing that is of parti schal be auoidid.
10 Mas, quando vier o que é completo, então o que é incompleto será aniquilado.
11 Whanne Y was a litil child, Y spak as a litil child, Y vndurstood as a litil child, Y thouyte as a litil child; but whanne Y was maad a man, Y auoidide tho thingis that weren of a litil child.
11 Quando eu era menino, falava como menino, sentia como menino, pensava como menino; quando cheguei a ser homem, desisti das coisas próprias de menino.
12 And we seen now bi a myrour in derknesse, but thanne face to face; now Y knowe of parti, but thanne Y schal knowe, as Y am knowun.
12 Porque agora vemos como num espelho, de forma obscura; depois veremos face a face. Agora meu conhecimento é incompleto; depois conhecerei como também sou conhecido.
13 And now dwellen feith, hope, and charite, these thre; but the most of these is charite.
13 Agora, pois, permanecem a fé, a esperança e o amor, estes três; porém o maior deles é o amor.
