Romanos 11

1 I ask then, Has God cast off His People? No, indeed. Why, I myself am an Israelite, of the posterity of Abraham and of the tribe of Benjamin.
1 Então pergunto: Deus rejeitou seu povo, a nação de Israel? Claro que não! Eu mesmo sou israelita, descendente de Abraão e membro da tribo de Benjamim.
2 God has not cast off His People whom He knew beforehand. Or are you ignorant of what Scripture says in speaking of Elijah–how he pleaded with God against Israel, saying,
2 Não, Deus não rejeitou seu povo, que conheceu de antemão. Vocês sabem o que as Escrituras dizem a esse respeito? O profeta Elias se queixou a Deus sobre o povo de Israel, dizendo:
3 »Lord, they have put Thy Prophets to death, and have overthrown Thy altars; and, now that I alone remain, they are thirsting for my blood«?
3 “Senhor, eles mataram teus profetas e derrubaram teus altares. Sou o único que restou, e agora também procuram me matar”.
4 But what did God say to him in reply? »I have reserved for Myself 7,000 men who have never bent the knee to Baal.«
4 E vocês se lembram da resposta de Deus? Ele disse: “Ainda tenho outros sete mil que jamais se prostraram diante de Baal”.
5 In the same way also at the present time there has come to be a remnant whom God in His grace has selected.
5 O mesmo acontece hoje, pois uns poucos do povo de Israel permaneceram fiéis, escolhidos pela graça de Deus.
6 But if it is in His grace that He has selected them, then His choice is no longer determined by human actions. Otherwise grace would be grace no longer.
6 E, se a escolha se dá pela graça de Deus, então não se baseia nas obras deles, pois nesse caso a graça deixaria de ser o que verdadeiramente é, ou seja, gratuita e imerecida.
7 How then does the matter stand? It stands thus. That which Israel are in earnest pursuit of, they have not obtained; but God's chosen servants have obtained it, and the rest have become hardened.
7 Portanto, a situação é esta: a maioria do povo de Israel não encontrou o que tanto buscava, mas uns poucos, aqueles que Deus havia escolhido, o encontraram, enquanto o coração dos demais foi endurecido.
8 And so Scripture says, »God has given them a spirit of drowsiness –eyes to see nothing with and ears to hear nothing with– even until now.«
8 Como dizem as Escrituras: “Deus os fez cair em sono profundo. Até hoje, fechou-lhes os olhos para que não vejam, e tapou-lhes os ouvidos para que não ouçam”.
9 And David says, »Let their very food become a snare and a trap to them, a stumbling-block and a retribution.
9 Da mesma forma, Davi disse: “Que sua mesa farta se transforme em laço, em armadilha que os faça pensar que tudo vai bem. Que seus privilégios os façam tropeçar, e que recebam o que merecem.
10 Let darkness come over their eyes that they may be unable to see, and make Thou their backs continually to stoop.«
10 Que seus olhos se escureçam para que não vejam, e que suas costas fiquem encurvadas para sempre”.
11 I ask, however, »Have they stumbled so as to be finally ruined?« No, indeed; but by their lapse salvation has come to the Gentiles in order to arouse the jealousy of the descendants of Israel;
11 Acaso o povo de Deus tropeçou e caiu sem possibilidade de se levantar? Claro que não! Foram desobedientes e, por isso, Deus tornou a salvação acessível aos gentios, para que seu próprio povo sentisse ciúme.
12 and if their lapse is the enriching of the world, and their overthrow the enriching of the Gentiles, will not still greater good follow their restoration?
12 Se os gentios foram enriquecidos porque os israelitas fracassaram ao rejeitar a salvação que Deus lhes oferece, imaginem como será maior a bênção para o mundo quando Israel for plenamente restaurado!
13 But to you Gentiles I say that, since I am an Apostle specially sent to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry,
13 Dirijo-me especialmente a vocês, gentios. E, uma vez que fui designado apóstolo aos gentios, enfatizo isso
14 trying whether I can succeed in rousing my own countrymen to jealousy and thus save some of them.
14 porque desejo que, de algum modo, o povo de Israel sinta ciúme e assim eu possa levar alguns deles à salvação.
15 For if their having been cast aside has carried with it the reconciliation of the world, what will their being accepted again be but Life out of death?
15 Pois, se a rejeição deles possibilitou que o resto do mundo se reconciliasse com Deus, a aceitação será ainda mais maravilhosa. Será vida para os que estavam mortos!
16 Now if the firstfruits of the dough are holy, so also is the whole mass; and if the root of a tree is holy, so also are the branches.
16 Se a parte da massa entregue como oferta é santa, então toda ela é santa. E, se as raízes da árvore são santas, os ramos também o serão.
17 And if some of the branches have been pruned away, and you, although you were but a wild olive, have been grafted in among them and have become a sharer with others in the rich sap of the root of the olive tree,
17 Mas alguns desses ramos, alguns do povo de Israel, foram cortados. E vocês, gentios, que eram ramos de uma oliveira brava, foram enxertados na árvore. Agora, portanto, participam do alimento nutritivo que vem da raiz da oliveira especial de Deus.
18 beware of glorying over the natural branches. Or if you are so glorying, do not forget that it is not you who uphold the root: the root upholds you.
18 No entanto, não devem se orgulhar de terem sido enxertados no lugar dos ramos que foram cortados, pois é a raiz que sustenta o ramo, e não o contrário.
19 »Branches have been lopped off,« you will say, »for the sake of my being grafted in.«
19 Talvez digam: “Esses ramos foram cortados para abrir espaço para nós”.
20 This is true; yet it was their unbelief that cut them off, and you only stand through your faith.
20 É verdade, mas lembrem-se de que esses ramos foram cortados porque não creram e que vocês estão ali porque creem. Portanto, não se orgulhem, mas temam o que poderia acontecer.
21 Do not be puffed up with pride. Tremble rather–for if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you.
21 Pois, se Deus não poupou os ramos naturais, também não poupará vocês.
22 Notice therefore God's kindness and God's severity. On those who have fallen His severity has descended, but upon you His kindness has come, provided that you do not cease to respond to that kindness. Otherwise you will be cut off also.
22 Observem como Deus é, ao mesmo tempo, bondoso e severo. É severo com os que lhe desobedecem, mas é bondoso com vocês, desde que continuem a confiar em sua bondade. Mas, se deixarem de confiar, também serão cortados.
23 Moreover, if they turn from their unbelief, they too will be grafted in. For God is powerful enough to graft them in again;
23 E, se o povo de Israel abandonar sua incredulidade, será enxertado novamente, pois Deus tem poder para enxertá-los de volta na árvore.
24 and if you were cut from that which by nature is a wild olive and contrary to nature were grafted into the good olive tree, how much more certainly will these natural branches be grafted on their own olive tree?
24 Vocês eram, por natureza, o ramo cortado de uma oliveira brava. Portanto, se Deus se mostrou disposto a fazer algo contrário à natureza ao enxertá-los em sua árvore cultivada, estará ainda mais disposto a enxertar os ramos naturais de volta na árvore da qual eles fazem parte.
25 For there is a truth, brethren, not revealed hitherto, of which I do not wish to leave you in ignorance, for fear you should attribute superior wisdom to yourselves–the truth, I mean, that partial blindness has fallen upon Israel until the great mass of the Gentiles have come in;
25 Irmãos, quero que vocês entendam este mistério para que não se orgulhem de si mesmos. Alguns do povo de Israel têm o coração endurecido, mas isso durará apenas até que o tempo dos gentios se complete.
26 and so all Israel will be saved. As is declared in Scripture, »From Mount Zion a Deliverer will come: He will remove all ungodliness from Jacob;
26 E assim todo o Israel será salvo. Como dizem as Escrituras: “O libertador virá de Sião e afastará Israel
27 and this shall be My Covenant with them; when I have taken away their sins.«
27 E esta é minha aliança com eles: eu removerei seus pecados”.
28 In relation to the Good News, the Jews are God's enemies for your sakes; but in relation to God's choice they are dearly loved for the sake of their forefathers.
28 Muitos do povo de Israel agora são inimigos das boas-novas, e isso beneficia vocês, gentios. No entanto, porque ele escolheu seus patriarcas, eles ainda são o povo que Deus ama.
29 For God does not repent of His free gifts nor of His call;
29 Pois as bênçãos de Deus e o seu chamado jamais podem ser anulados.
30 but just as you were formerly disobedient to Him, but now have received mercy at a time when they are disobedient,
30 Em outros tempos, vocês, gentios, foram rebeldes contra Deus, mas agora, por causa da desobediência deles, vocês receberam misericórdia.
31 so now they also have been disobedient at a time when you are receiving mercy; so that to them too there may now be mercy.
31 Agora eles são os rebeldes, e Deus foi misericordioso com vocês, para que eles também participem da misericórdia dele.
32 For God has locked up all in the prison of unbelief, that upon all alike He may have mercy.
32 Pois Deus colocou a todos debaixo da desobediência para que de todos tivesse misericórdia.
33 Oh, how inexhaustible are God's resources and God's wisdom and God's knowledge! How impossible it is to search into His decrees or trace His footsteps!
33 Como são grandes as riquezas, a sabedoria e o conhecimento de Deus! É impossível entendermos suas decisões e seus caminhos!
34 »Who has ever known the mind of the Lord, or shared His counsels?«
34 “Pois quem conhece os pensamentos do Senhor? Quem sabe o suficiente para aconselhá-lo?”
35 »Who has first given God anything, so as to receive payment in return?«
35 “Quem lhe deu primeiro alguma coisa, para que ele precise depois retribuir?”
36 For the universe owes its origin to Him, was created by Him, and has its aim and purpose in Him. To Him be the glory throughout the Ages! Amen.
36 Pois todas as coisas vêm dele, existem por meio dele e são para ele. A ele seja toda a glória para sempre! Amém.
