1 For every High Priest is chosen from among men, and is appointed to act on behalf of men in matters relating to God, in order to offer both gifts and sin-offerings,
1 Todo sumo sacerdote é um homem escolhido para representar outras pessoas nas coisas referentes a Deus. Ele apresenta ofertas e sacrifícios pelos pecados
2 and must be one who is able to bear patiently with the ignorant and erring, because he himself also is beset with infirmity.
2 e é capaz de tratar com bondade os ignorantes e os que se desviam, pois está sujeito às mesmas fraquezas.
3 And for this reason he is required to offer sin-offerings not only for the people but also for himself.
3 É por isso que precisa oferecer sacrifícios pelos próprios pecados, bem como pelos pecados do povo.
4 And no one takes this honourable office upon himself, but only accepts it when called to it by God, as Aaron was.
4 Ninguém assume essa posição de honra por si só. Ele deve ser chamado por Deus, como aconteceu com Arão.
5 So Christ also did not claim for Himself the honour of being made High Priest, but was appointed to it by Him who said to Him, »My Son art Thou: I have to-day become Thy Father;«
5 Por isso Cristo não tomou para si a honra de ser Sumo Sacerdote, mas foi Deus que lhe concedeu essa honra, dizendo: “Você é meu Filho; hoje eu o gerei”.
6 as also in another passage He says, »Thou art a priest for ever, belonging to the order of Melchizedek.«
6 E, em outra passagem, diz: “Você é sacerdote para sempre, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque”.
7 For Jesus during his earthly life offered up prayers and entreaties, crying aloud and weeping as He pleaded with Him who was able to bring Him in safety out of death, and He was delivered from the terror from which He shrank.
7 Enquanto Jesus esteve na terra, ofereceu orações e súplicas, em alta voz e com lágrimas, àquele que podia salvá-lo da morte, e suas orações foram ouvidas por causa de sua profunda devoção.
8 Although He was God's Son, yet He learned obedience from the sufferings which He endured;
8 Embora fosse Filho, aprendeu a obediência por meio de seu sofrimento.
9 and so, having been made perfect, He became to all who obey Him the source and giver of eternal salvation.
9 Com isso, foi capacitado para ser o Sumo Sacerdote perfeito e tornou-se a fonte de salvação eterna para todos que lhe obedecem.
10 For God Himself addresses Him as a High Priest for ever, belonging to the order of Melchizedek.
10 E Deus o designou Sumo Sacerdote segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque.
11 Concerning Him we have much to say, and much that it would be difficult to make clear to you, since you have become so dull of apprehension.
11 Há muito mais que gostaríamos de dizer a esse respeito, mas são coisas difíceis de explicar, sobretudo porque vocês se tornaram displicentes acerca do que ouvem.
12 For although, considering the long time you have been believers, you ought now to be teachers of others, you really need some one to teach you over again the very rudiments of the truths of God, and you have come to require milk instead of solid food.
12 A esta altura, já deveriam ensinar outras pessoas, e no entanto precisam que alguém lhes ensine novamente os conceitos mais básicos da palavra de Deus. Ainda precisam de leite, e não podem ingerir alimento sólido.
13 By people who live on milk I mean those who are imperfectly acquainted with the teaching concerning righteousness.
13 Quem se alimenta de leite ainda é criança e não sabe o que é justo.
14 Such persons are mere babes. But solid food is for adults–that is, for those who through constant practice have their spiritual faculties carefully trained to distinguish good from evil.
14 O alimento sólido é para os adultos que, pela prática constante, são capazes de distinguir entre certo e errado.
