1 Therefore, surrounded as we are by such a vast cloud of witnesses, let us fling aside every encumbrance and the sin that so readily entangles our feet. And let us run with patient endurance the race that lies before us,
1 Assim nós temos essa grande multidão de testemunhas ao nosso redor. Portanto, deixemos de lado tudo o que nos atrapalha e o pecado que se agarra firmemente em nós e continuemos a correr, sem desanimar, a corrida marcada para nós.
2 simply fixing our gaze upon Jesus, our Prince Leader in the faith, who will also award us the prize. He, for the sake of the joy which lay before Him, patiently endured the cross, looking with contempt upon its shame, and afterwards seated Himself – where He still sits– at the right hand of the throne of God.
2 Conservemos os nossos olhos fixos em Jesus, pois é por meio dele que a nossa fé começa, e é ele quem a aperfeiçoa. Ele não deixou que a cruz fizesse com que ele desistisse. Pelo contrário, por causa da alegria que lhe foi prometida, ele não se importou com a humilhação de morrer na cruz e agora está sentado do lado direito do trono de Deus.
3 Therefore, if you would escape becoming weary and faint-hearted, compare your own sufferings with those of Him who endured such hostility directed against Him by sinners.
3 Pensem no sofrimento dele e como suportou com paciência o ódio dos pecadores. Assim, vocês, não desanimem, nem desistam.
4 In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted so as to endanger your lives;
4 Porque na luta contra o pecado vocês ainda não tiveram de combater até à morte.
5 and you have quite forgotten the encouraging words which are addressed to you as sons, and which say, »My son, do not think lightly of the Lord's discipline, and do not faint when He corrects you;
5 Será que vocês já esqueceram as palavras de encorajamento que Deus lhes disse, como se vocês fossem filhos dele? Pois ele disse: “Preste atenção, meu filho, quando o Senhor o castiga, e não se desanime quando ele o repreende.
6 for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines: and He scourges every son whom He acknowledges.«
6 Pois o Senhor corrige quem ele ama e castiga quem ele aceita como filho.”
7 The sufferings that you are enduring are for your discipline. God is dealing with you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
7 Suportem o sofrimento com paciência como se fosse um castigo dado por um pai, pois o sofrimento de vocês mostra que Deus os está tratando como seus filhos. Será que existe algum filho que nunca foi corrigido pelo pai?
8 And if you are left without discipline, of which every true son has had a share, that shows that you are bastards, and not true sons.
8 Se vocês não são corrigidos como acontece com todos os filhos de Deus, então não são filhos de verdade, mas filhos ilegítimos.
9 Besides this, our earthly fathers used to discipline us and we treated them with respect, and shall we not be still more submissive to the Father of our spirits, and live?
9 No caso dos nossos pais humanos, eles nos corrigiam, e nós os respeitávamos. Então devemos obedecer muito mais ainda ao nosso Pai celestial e assim viveremos.
10 It is true that they disciplined us for a few years according as they thought fit; but He does it for our certain good, in order that we may become sharers in His own holy character.
10 Os nossos pais humanos nos corrigiam durante pouco tempo, pois achavam que isso era certo; mas Deus nos corrige para o nosso próprio bem, para que participemos da sua santidade .
11 Now, at the time, discipline seems to be a matter not for joy, but for grief; yet it afterwards yields to those who have passed through its training a result full of peace–namely, righteousness.
11 Quando somos corrigidos, isso no momento nos parece motivo de tristeza e não de alegria. Porém, mais tarde, os que foram corrigidos recebem como recompensa uma vida correta e de paz.
12 Therefore strengthen the drooping hands and paralysed knees,
12 Portanto, levantem as suas mãos cansadas e fortaleçam os seus joelhos enfraquecidos.
13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put entirely out of joint
13 Andem por caminhos aplanados para que o pé aleijado não manque, mas seja curado.
14 but may rather be restored. Persistently strive for peace with all men, and for that growth in holiness apart from which no one will see the Lord.
14 Procurem ter paz com todos e se esforcem para viver uma vida completamente dedicada ao Senhor, pois sem isso ninguém o verá.
15 Be carefully on your guard lest there be any one who falls back from the grace of God; lest any root bearing bitter fruit spring up and cause trouble among you, and through it the whole brotherhood be defiled;
15 Tomem cuidado para que ninguém abandone a graça de Deus. Cuidado, para que ninguém se torne como uma planta amarga que cresce e prejudica muita gente com o seu veneno.
16 lest there be a fornicator, or an ungodly person like Esau, who, in return for a single meal, parted with the birthright which belonged to him.
16 E tomem cuidado também para que ninguém se torne imoral ou perca o respeito pelas coisas sagradas, como Esaú, que, por causa de um prato de comida, vendeu os seus direitos de filho mais velho.
17 For you know that even afterwards, when he wished to secure the blessing, he was rejected; for he found no opportunity for undoing what he had done, though he sought the blessing earnestly with tears.
17 Como vocês sabem, depois ele quis receber a bênção do seu pai. Mas foi rejeitado porque não encontrou um modo de mudar o que havia feito, embora procurasse fazer isso até mesmo com lágrimas.
18 For you have not come to a material object all ablaze with fire, and to gloom and darkness and storm and trumpet-blast and the sound of words–
18 Vocês não foram como o povo de Israel. Vocês não chegaram perto de alguma coisa que se pode tocar, como o monte Sinai com o seu fogo destruidor, a escuridão e as trevas, a tempestade,
19 a sound of such a kind that those who heard it entreated that no more should be added.
19 o barulho de trombeta e o som de uma voz. Quando os israelitas ouviram a voz, pediram que ela não dissesse mais nada,
20 For they could not endure the order which had been given, »Even a wild beast, if it touches the mountain, shall be stoned to death;«
20 pois eles não podiam suportar a ordem que dizia: “Até um animal, se tocar o monte, deverá ser morto a pedradas.”
21 and so terrible was the scene that Moses said, »I tremble with fear.«
21 O que estavam vendo era tão terrível, que Moisés disse: “Estou tremendo de medo!”
22 On the contrary you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the ever-living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to countless hosts of angels,
22 Pelo contrário, vocês chegaram ao monte Sião e à cidade do Deus vivo, a Jerusalém celestial com os seus milhares de anjos.
23 to the great festal gathering and Church of the first-born, whose names are recorded in Heaven, and to a Judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,
23 Vocês chegaram à reunião alegre dos filhos mais velhos de Deus, isto é, daqueles que têm o nome deles escrito no céu. Vocês chegaram até Deus, que é o juiz de todos, e chegaram também aos espíritos dos que são corretos e que foram aperfeiçoados.
24 and to Jesus the negotiator of a new Covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks in more gracious tones than that of Abel.
24 Vocês chegaram até Jesus, que fez a nova aliança e que borrifou o sangue que fala de coisas muito melhores do que o sangue de Abel.
25 Be careful not to refuse to listen to Him who is speaking to you. For if they of old did not escape unpunished when they refused to listen to him who spoke on earth, much less shall we escape who turn a deaf ear to Him who now speaks from Heaven.
25 Portanto, tenham cuidado e não recusem ouvir aquele que fala. Aqueles que recusaram ouvir a pessoa que entregou a mensagem divina na terra não puderam escapar. Por isso muito menos escaparemos nós se rejeitarmos aquele que lá do céu nos fala.
26 His voice then shook the earth, but now we have His promise, »Yet again I will, once for all, cause not only the earth to tremble, but Heaven also.«
26 Naquele tempo a voz de Deus fez com que a terra estremecesse, mas agora ele prometeu isto: “Mais uma vez farei com que trema não somente a terra, mas também o céu.”
27 Here the words »Yet again, once for all« denote the removal of the things which can be shaken –created things– in order that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
27 As palavras “mais uma vez” mostram bem que as coisas criadas serão abaladas e mudadas, para que as que não podem ser abaladas continuem como estão.
28 Therefore, receiving, as we now do, a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us cherish thankfulness so that we may ever offer to God an acceptable service, with godly reverence and awe.
28 Por isso sejamos agradecidos, pois já recebemos um Reino que não pode ser abalado. Sejamos agradecidos e adoremos a Deus de um modo que o agrade, com respeito e temor .
29 For our God is also a consuming fire.
29 Porque, na verdade, o nosso Deus é um fogo destruidor.
