1 Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Christ Jesus: To all God's people in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the ministers of the Church and their assistants.
1 Eu, Paulo, e Timóteo, servos de Cristo Jesus, escrevemos esta carta para todos os moradores da cidade de Filipos que pertencem ao povo de Deus e que creem em Cristo Jesus e também para os bispos e diáconos da igreja.
2 May grace and peace be granted to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Que a graça e a paz de Deus, o nosso Pai, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo estejam com vocês!
3 I thank my God at my every remembrance of you–
3 Sempre que penso em vocês, eu agradeço ao meu Deus.
4 always when offering any prayer on behalf of you all, finding a joy in offering it.
4 E, todas as vezes que oro em favor de vocês, oro com alegria
5 I thank my God, I say, for your cooperation in spreading the Good News, from the time it first came to you even until now.
5 por causa da maneira como vocês me ajudaram no trabalho de anunciar o evangelho , desde o primeiro dia até hoje.
6 For of this I am confident, that He who has begun a good work within you will go on to perfect it in preparation for the day of Jesus Christ.
6 Pois eu estou certo de que Deus, que começou esse bom trabalho na vida de vocês, vai continuá-lo até que ele esteja completo no Dia de Cristo Jesus .
7 And I am justified in having this confidence about you all, because, both during my imprisonment and when I stand up in defence of the Good News or to confirm its truth, I have you in my heart, sharers as you all are in the same grace as myself.
7 Vocês estão sempre no meu coração. E é justo que eu me sinta assim a respeito de vocês, pois vocês têm participado comigo desse privilégio que Deus me deu. É isso o que vocês estão fazendo agora que estou na cadeia e foi o mesmo que fizeram quando eu estava livre para defender e anunciar com firmeza o evangelho.
8 For God is my witness how I yearn over all of you with tender Christian affection.
8 Deus é testemunha de que estou dizendo a verdade quando afirmo que o meu grande amor por todos vocês vem do próprio coração de Cristo Jesus.
9 And it is my prayer that your love may be more and more accompanied by clear knowledge and keen perception, for testing things that differ,
9 O que eu peço a Deus é que o amor de vocês cresça cada vez mais e que tenham sabedoria e um entendimento completo,
10 so that you may be men of transparent character, and may be blameless, in preparation for the day of Christ,
10 a fim de que saibam escolher o melhor. Assim, no dia da vinda de Cristo, vocês estarão livres de toda impureza e de qualquer culpa.
11 being filled with these fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ– to the glory and praise of God.
11 A vida de vocês estará cheia das boas qualidades que só Jesus Cristo pode produzir, para a glória e o louvor de Deus.
12 Now I would have you know, brethren, that what I have gone through has turned out to the furtherance of the Good News rather than otherwise.
12 Meus irmãos, eu quero que vocês saibam que as coisas que me aconteceram ajudaram, de fato, o progresso do evangelho .
13 And thus it has become notorious among all the Imperial Guards, and everywhere, that it is for the sake of Christ that I am a prisoner;
13 Pois foi assim que toda a guarda do palácio do Governador e todas as outras pessoas daqui ficaram sabendo que estou na cadeia porque sou servo de Cristo.
14 and the greater part of the brethren, made confident in the Lord through my imprisonment, now speak of God's Message without fear, more boldly than ever.
14 E a maioria dos irmãos, vendo que estou na cadeia, tem mais confiança no Senhor. Assim eles têm cada vez mais coragem para anunciar a mensagem de Deus.
15 Some indeed actually preach Christ out of envy and contentiousness but there are also others who do it from good will.
15 É verdade que alguns deles anunciam Cristo porque são ciumentos e briguentos; mas outros anunciam com boas intenções.
16 These latter preach Him from love to me, knowing that I am here for the defence of the Good News;
16 Estes fazem isso por amor, pois sabem que Deus me deu o trabalho de defender o evangelho.
17 while the others proclaim Him from motives of rivalry, and insincerely, supposing that by this they are embittering my imprisonment.
17 Os outros não anunciam Cristo com sinceridade, mas por interesse pessoal. Eles pensam que assim aumentarão os meus sofrimentos enquanto estou na cadeia.
18 What does it matter, however? In any case Christ is preached–either perversely or in honest truth; and in that I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.
18 Mas isso não tem importância. O que importa é que Cristo está sendo anunciado, seja por maus ou por bons motivos. Por isso estou alegre e vou continuar assim.
19 For I know that it will result in my salvation through your prayers and a bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
19 Pois eu sei que, por meio das orações de vocês e com a ajuda do Espírito de Jesus Cristo, eu serei posto em liberdade.
20 in fulfilment of my eager expectation and hope that I shall never have reason to feel ashamed, but that by my perfect freedom of speech Christ will be glorified in me, now as always, either by my life or by my death.
20 O meu grande desejo e a minha esperança são de nunca falhar no meu dever, para que, sempre e agora ainda mais, eu tenha muita coragem. E assim, em tudo o que eu disser e fizer, tanto na vida como na morte, eu poderei levar outros a reconhecerem a grandeza de Cristo.
21 For, with me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
21 Pois para mim viver é Cristo, e morrer é lucro.
22 But since to live means a longer stay on earth, that implies more labour for me–and not unsuccessful labour; and which I am to choose I cannot tell.
22 Mas, se eu continuar vivendo, poderei ainda fazer algum trabalho útil. Então não sei o que devo escolher.
23 I am in a dilemma, my earnest desire being to depart and be with Christ, for that is far, far better.
23 Estou cercado pelos dois lados, pois quero muito deixar esta vida e estar com Cristo, o que é bem melhor.
24 But for your sakes it is more important that I should still remain in the body.
24 Porém, por causa de vocês, é muito mais necessário que eu continue a viver.
25 I am convinced of this, and I know that I shall remain, and shall go on working side by side with you all, to promote your progress and joy in the faith;
25 E, como estou certo disso, sei que continuarei vivendo e ficarei com todos vocês para ajudá-los a progredirem e a terem a alegria que vem da fé.
26 so that, as Christians, you may have additional reason for glorying about me as the result of my being with you again.
26 Assim, quando eu for visitar vocês outra vez, vocês terão muito mais razão ainda para ficarem orgulhosos de mim, na vida que vocês têm em união com Cristo Jesus.
27 Only let the lives you live be worthy of the Good News of the Christ, in order that, whether I come and see you or, being absent, only hear of you, I may know that you are standing fast in one spirit and with one mind, fighting shoulder to shoulder for the faith of the Good News.
27 Agora, o mais importante é que vocês vivam de acordo com o evangelho de Cristo. Desse modo, tanto se eu puder ir visitar vocês como se não puder, eu saberei que vocês continuam firmes e unidos. E saberei também que vocês, por meio da fé que se baseia no evangelho, estão lutando juntos, com um só desejo.
28 Never for a moment quail before your antagonists. Your fearlessness will be to them a sure token of impending destruction, but to you it will be a sure token of your salvation–a token coming from God.
28 Não tenham medo dos seus inimigos. Sejam sempre corajosos, pois isso será uma prova para eles de que serão derrotados e de que vocês serão vencedores. Porque é Deus quem dá a vitória a vocês.
29 For you have had the privilege granted you on behalf of Christ–not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer on His behalf;
29 Pois ele tem dado a vocês o privilégio de servir a Cristo, não somente crendo nele, mas também sofrendo por ele.
30 maintaining, as you do, the same kind of conflict that you once saw in me and which you still hear that I am engaged in.
30 Agora vocês podem tomar parte comigo na luta. Como vocês sabem, a luta que vocês viram que tive no passado é a mesma que ainda continua.
