1 Then He began to speak to them in figurative language. "There was once a man," He said, "who planted a vineyard, fenced it round, dug a pit for the wine-tank, and built a strong lodge. Then he let the place to vine-dressers and went abroad.
1 E ele começou a falar-lhes por parábolas: Um certo homem plantou uma vinha, e colocou uma cerca viva em torno dela, e cavou nela um lagar, e edificou uma torre, e a deixou com uns lavradores, e foi para um país distante.
2 At vintage-time he sent one of his servants to receive from the vine-dressers a share of the grapes.
2 E na estação, enviou um servo aos lavradores para que ele pudesse receber do fruto da vinha.
3 But they seized him, beat him cruelly and sent him away empty-handed.
3 E eles pegando-o, espancaram-no e o mandaram embora sem nada.
4 Again he sent to them another servant: and as for him, they wounded him in the head and treated him shamefully.
4 E mais uma vez, ele enviou outro servo; e eles, apedrejando-o, feriram-no na cabeça, e o mandaram embora, completamente envergonhado.
5 Yet a third he sent, and him they killed. And he sent many besides, and them also they ill-treated, beating some and killing others.
5 E novamente ele enviou outro; e a este mataram, e a muitos outros, espancando a uns e matando a outros.
6 He had still one left whom he could send, a dearly-loved son: him last of all he sent, saying, "`They will treat my son with respect.'
6 Tendo, portanto, ainda o seu filho amado, a este lhes enviou por último, dizendo: Eles respeitarão o meu filho.
7 "But those men--the vine-dressers--said to one another, "`Here is the heir: come, let us kill him, and then the property will one day be ours.'
7 Mas aqueles lavradores disseram entre si: Este é o herdeiro; vinde, matemo-lo, e a herança será nossa.
8 "So they took him and killed him, and flung his body outside the vineyard.
8 E eles tomando-o, mataram-no, e lançaram-no fora da vinha.
9 What, therefore, will the owner of the vineyard do?" "He will come and put the vine-dressers to death," they said; "and will give the vineyard to others."
9 O que fará, portanto, o senhor da vinha? Ele virá e destruirá os lavradores, e dará a vinha a outros.
10 "Have you not read even this passage," He added, <FO>"`The stone which the builders rejected has become the Cornerstone:
10 Ainda não lestes esta escritura: A pedra que os edificadores rejeitaram se tornou a cabeça da esquina;
11 this Cornerstone came from the Lord, and is wonderful in our esteem?'"<Fo>

12 And they kept looking out for an opportunity to seize Him, but were afraid of the people; for they saw that in this parable He had referred to *them*. So they left Him and went away.
12 E eles buscavam prendê-lo, mas temiam as pessoas; porque sabiam que ele havia falado a parábola contra eles; e deixando-o, foram pelo seu caminho.
13 Their next step was to send to Him some of the Pharisees and of Herod's partisans to entrap Him in conversation.
13 E eles enviaram-lhe alguns dos fariseus e dos herodianos, para surpreendê-lo em suas palavras.
14 So they came to Him. "Rabbi," they said, "we know that you are a truthful man and you do not fear any one; for you do not recognize human distinctions, but teach God's way truly. Is it allowable to pay poll-tax to Caesar, or not?
14 E, chegando eles, disseram-lhe: Mestre, nós sabemos que tu és verdadeiro, e não te preocupas com opinião de nenhum homem, quanto mais com a aparência dos homens, mas ensinas o caminho de Deus em verdade; é lícito dar tributo a César, ou não?
15 Shall we pay, or shall we refuse to pay?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, replied, "Why try to ensnare me? Bring me a shilling for me to look at."
15 Nós daremos, ou não daremos? Mas ele, conhecendo a sua hipocrisia, disse-lhes: Por que me tentais? Trazei-me um denário, para que eu a veja.
16 They brought one; and He asked them, "Whose is this likeness and this inscription?" "Caesar's," they replied.
16 E eles trouxeram-lho. E ele disse-lhes: De quem é esta imagem e inscrição? E eles lhe disseram: De César.
17 "What is Caesar's," replied Jesus, "pay to Caesar--and what is God's, pay to God." And they wondered exceedingly at Him.
17 E Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhes: Dai a César as coisas que são de César, e a Deus as coisas que são de Deus. E maravilharam-se dele.
18 Then came to Him a party of Sadducees, a sect which denies that there is any Resurrection; and they proceeded to question Him.
18 Então se aproximaram dele os saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, e eles perguntaram-lhe, dizendo:
19 "Rabbi," they said, "Moses made it a law for us: <FO>`If a man's brother should die and leave a wife, but no child, the man shall marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother.'<Fo>
19 Mestre, Moisés nos escreveu que, se morresse o irmão de um homem, e deixasse sua esposa e não deixasse filhos, que seu irmão tomasse a esposa dele, e levantasse descendência a seu irmão.
20 There were once seven brothers, the eldest of whom married a wife, but at his death left no family.
20 Ora, havia sete irmãos; e o primeiro tomou a esposa, e morreu sem deixar descendência.
21 The second married her, and died, leaving no family; and the third did the same.
21 E o segundo a tomou e morreu, e nem este deixou descendência; e o terceiro da mesma maneira.
22 And so did the rest of the seven, all dying childless. Finally the woman also died.
22 E os sete a possuíram, sem deixar descendência; por fim, depois de todos, morreu também a mulher.
23 At the Resurrection whose wife will she be? For they all seven married her."
23 Portanto, na ressurreição, quando eles ressuscitarem, de qual deles será a mulher? Porque os sete a tiveram por mulher.
24 "Is not this the cause of your error," replied Jesus-- "your ignorance alike of the Scriptures and of the power of God?
24 E Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhes: Porventura vós não errais em razão de não conhecerdes as escrituras, nem o poder de Deus?
25 For when they have risen from among the dead, men do not marry and women are not given in marriage, but they are as angels are in Heaven.
25 Porque, ao ressuscitarem dentre os mortos, eles nem se casam, nem se dão em casamento; mas são como os anjos que estão no céu.
26 But as to the dead, that they rise to life, have you never read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the Bush, how God said to him, <FO>`I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?'<Fo>
26 E quanto aos mortos, que ressuscitarão; não lestes no livro de Moisés, como Deus lhe falou na sarça, dizendo: Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, e o Deus de Isaque, e o Deus de Jacó?
27 He is not the God of dead, but of living men. You are in grave error."
27 Ele não é o Deus dos mortos, mas é o Deus dos vivos; portanto, vós errais grandemente.
28 Then one of the Scribes, who had heard them disputing and well knew that Jesus had given them an answer to the point, and a forcible one, came forward and asked Him, "Which is the chief of all the Commandments?"
28 E vindo um dos escribas, ouvindo-os discutirem, e percebendo que lhes havia respondido bem, perguntou-lhe: Qual é o primeiro de todos os mandamentos?
29 "The chief Commandment," replied Jesus, "is this: <FO>`Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord;
29 E Jesus respondeu-lhe: O primeiro de todos os mandamentos é: Ouve, ó Israel, o Senhor nosso Deus é o único Senhor;
30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, thy whole soul, thy whole mind, and thy whole strength.'<Fo>
30 e tu amarás o Senhor teu Deus com todo o teu coração, e com toda tua alma, e com toda a tua mente, e com toda a tua força; este é o primeiro mandamento.
31 "The second is this: <FO>`Thou shalt love thy fellow man as thou lovest thyself.'<Fo> "Other Commandment greater than these there is none."
31 E o segundo é semelhante, a este: Tu amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo. Não há outro mandamento maior do que estes.
32 So the Scribe said to Him, "Rightly, in very truth, Rabbi, have you said that <FO>He stands alone, and there is none but He;<Fo>
32 E o escriba lhe disse: Bem, Mestre, tu disseste a verdade; pois há um único Deus, e não há outro além dele;
33 and <FO>To love Him with all one's heart, with all one's understanding, and with all one's strength, and to love one's fellow man no less than oneself,<Fo> is far better than all our <FO>whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices."<Fo>
33 e amá-lo com todo o coração, com toda a compreensão, e com toda a alma, e com toda a força, e de amar ao seu próximo como a si mesmo, é mais do que todas as ofertas queimadas e sacrifícios.
34 Perceiving that the Scribe had answered wisely Jesus said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." No one from that time forward ventured to put any question to Him.
34 E Jesus, vendo que havia respondido sabiamente, disse-lhe: Tu não estás longe do reino de Deus. E nenhum homem depois disso ousou fazer-lhe pergunta alguma.
35 But, while teaching in the Temple, Jesus asked, "How is it the Scribes say that the Christ is a son of David?
35 E Jesus respondeu e disse, enquanto ensinava no templo: Como dizem os escribas que Cristo é o filho de Davi?
36 David himself said, taught by the Holy Spirit, <FO>"`The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, until I have made thy foes a footstool under thy feet.'<Fo>
36 O próprio Davi disse pelo Espírito Santo: O SENHOR disse ao meu Senhor: Assenta-te à minha direita, até que eu faça os teus inimigos por escabelo.
37 "David himself calls Him `Lord:' how then can He be his son?" And the mass of people found pleasure in listening to Jesus.
37 Porque, se Davi mesmo lhe chama Senhor, como é ele então seu filho? E pessoas comuns o ouviam de boa vontade.
38 Moreover in the course of His teaching He said, "Be on your guard against the Scribes who like to walk about in long robes and to be bowed to in places of public resort,
38 E ele dizia-lhes na sua doutrina: Guardai-vos dos escribas, que adoram andar com vestes compridas, e amam saudações nos mercados,
39 and to occupy the best seats in the synagogues and at dinner parties,
39 e os principais assentos nas sinagogas, e os lugares mais altos nos banquetes;
40 and who swallow up the property of widows and then mask their wickedness by making long prayers: these men will receive far heavier punishment."
40 que devoram as casas das viúvas, e sob pretexto fazem longas orações; estes receberão maior condenação.
41 Having taken a seat opposite the Treasury, He observed how the people were dropping money into the Treasury, and that many of the wealthy threw in large sums.
41 E sentou-se Jesus defronte do tesouro, e observava como a multidão lançava dinheiro no tesouro; e muitos ricos depositavam muito.
42 But there came one poor widow and dropped in two farthings, equal in value to a halfpenny.
42 E vindo ali uma viúva pobre, depositou dois leptos, que valem um quadrante.
43 So He called His disciples to Him and said, "In solemn truth I tell you that this widow, poor as she is, has thrown in more than all the other contributors to the Treasury;
43 E ele chamando a si os seus discípulos, disse-lhes: Na verdade eu vos digo que esta pobre viúva deu mais do que todos os que depositaram no tesouro;
44 for they have all contributed out of what they could well spare, but she out of her need has thrown in all she possessed--all she had to live on."
44 porque todos eles depositaram da sua abundância; mas ela depositou tudo o que tinha, todo o seu meio de vida.
