1 The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
1 Recebi esta mensagem do S enhor :
2 "Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, the vine branch which is amongst the trees of the forest?
2 “Filho do homem, como comparar uma videira com uma árvore? Acaso a madeira da videira é útil como a da árvore?
3 Will wood be taken of it to make anything? Will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel on it?
3 Pode ser usada para fazer objetos, como ganchos para pendurar vasilhas e panelas?
4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire has devoured both its ends, and the middle of it is burnt. Is it profitable for any work?
4 Não, ela serve apenas como lenha e, mesmo assim, queima depressa demais.
5 Behold, when it was whole, it was suitable for no work. How much less, when the fire has devoured it, and it has been burnt, will it yet be suitable for any work?"
5 As videiras são inúteis tanto antes como depois de serem lançadas no fogo.
6 Therefore the Lord GOD says: "As the vine wood amongst the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so I will give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
6 “Assim diz o S enhor Soberano: Os habitantes de Jerusalém são como videiras que crescem no meio das árvores do bosque. Porque são inúteis, eu os lancei no fogo para serem queimados.
7 I will set my face against them. They will go out from the fire, but the fire will still devour them. Then you will know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.
7 E, se escaparem de um fogo, providenciarei outro para os consumir. Quando eu me voltar contra eles, vocês saberão que eu sou o S enhor .
8 I will make the land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully," says the Lord GOD.
8 Deixarei a terra desolada, pois meu povo foi infiel a mim. Eu, o S enhor Soberano falei!”.
