1 Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the LORD’s words.
1 Disse Samuel a Saul: Enviou-me o Senhor a ungir-te rei sobre o seu povo, sobre Israel; atenta, pois, agora, às palavras do Senhor .
2 The LORD of Armies says, ‘I remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way when he came up out of Egypt.
2 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Castigarei Amaleque pelo que fez a Israel: ter-se oposto a Israel no caminho, quando este subia do Egito.
3 Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’"
3 Vai, pois, agora, e fere a Amaleque, e destrói totalmente a tudo o que tiver, e nada lhe poupes; porém matarás homem e mulher, meninos e crianças de peito, bois e ovelhas, camelos e jumentos.
4 Saul summoned the people, and counted them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah.
4 Saul convocou o povo e os contou em Telaim: duzentos mil homens de pé e dez mil homens de Judá.
5 Saul came to the city of Amalek, and set an ambush in the valley.
5 Chegando, pois, Saul à cidade de Amaleque, pôs emboscadas no vale.
6 Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, go down from amongst the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from amongst the Amalekites.
6 E disse aos queneus: Ide-vos, retirai-vos e saí do meio dos amalequitas, para que eu vos não destrua juntamente com eles, porque usastes de misericórdia para com todos os filhos de Israel, quando subiram do Egito. Assim, os queneus se retiraram do meio dos amalequitas.
7 Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, which is before Egypt.
7 Então, feriu Saul os amalequitas, desde Havilá até chegar a Sur, que está defronte do Egito.
8 He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
8 Tomou vivo a Agague, rei dos amalequitas; porém a todo o povo destruiu a fio de espada.
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, of the fat calves, of the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
9 E Saul e o povo pouparam Agague, e o melhor das ovelhas e dos bois, e os animais gordos, e os cordeiros, e o melhor que havia e não os quiseram destruir totalmente; porém toda coisa vil e desprezível destruíram.
10 Then the LORD’s word came to Samuel, saying,
10 Então, veio a palavra do Senhor a Samuel, dizendo:
11 "It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments." Samuel was angry; and he cried to the LORD all night.
11 Arrependo-me de haver constituído Saul rei, porquanto deixou de me seguir e não executou as minhas palavras. Então, Samuel se contristou e toda a noite clamou ao Senhor .
12 Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and Samuel was told, saying, "Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, turned, passed on, and went down to Gilgal."
12 Madrugou Samuel para encontrar a Saul pela manhã; e anunciou-se àquele: Já chegou Saul ao Carmelo, e eis que levantou para si um monumento; e, dando volta, passou e desceu a Gilgal.
13 Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, "You are blessed by the LORD! I have performed the commandment of the LORD."
13 Veio, pois, Samuel a Saul, e este lhe disse: Bendito sejas tu do Senhor ; executei as palavras do Senhor .
14 Samuel said, "Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?"
14 Então, disse Samuel: Que balido, pois, de ovelhas é este nos meus ouvidos e o mugido de bois que ouço?
15 Saul said, "They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to the LORD your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest."
15 Respondeu Saul: De Amaleque os trouxeram; porque o povo poupou o melhor das ovelhas e dos bois, para os sacrificar ao Senhor , teu Deus; o resto, porém, destruímos totalmente.
16 Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD said to me last night."
16 Então, disse Samuel a Saul: Espera, e te declararei o que o Senhor me disse esta noite. Respondeu-lhe Saul: Fala.
17 Samuel said, "Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel;
17 Prosseguiu Samuel: Porventura, sendo tu pequeno aos teus olhos, não foste por cabeça das tribos de Israel, e não te ungiu o Senhor rei sobre ele?
18 and the LORD sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’
18 Enviou-te o Senhor a este caminho e disse: Vai, e destrói totalmente estes pecadores, os amalequitas, e peleja contra eles, até exterminá-los.
19 Why then didn’t you obey the LORD’s voice, but took the plunder, and did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight?"
19 Por que, pois, não atentaste à voz do Senhor , mas te lançaste ao despojo e fizeste o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor ?
20 Saul said to Samuel, "But I have obeyed the LORD’s voice, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
20 Então, disse Saul a Samuel: Pelo contrário, dei ouvidos à voz do Senhor e segui o caminho pelo qual o Senhor me enviou; e trouxe a Agague, rei de Amaleque, e os amalequitas, os destruí totalmente;
21 But the people took of the plunder, sheep and cattle, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal."
21 mas o povo tomou do despojo ovelhas e bois, o melhor do designado à destruição para oferecer ao Senhor , teu Deus, em Gilgal.
22 Samuel said, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the LORD’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
22 Porém Samuel disse: Tem, porventura, o Senhor tanto prazer em holocaustos e sacrifícios quanto em que se obedeça à sua palavra? Eis que o obedecer é melhor do que o sacrificar, e o atender, melhor do que a gordura de carneiros.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the LORD’s word, he has also rejected you from being king."
23 Porque a rebelião é como o pecado de feitiçaria, e a obstinação é como a idolatria e culto a ídolos do lar. Visto que rejeitaste a palavra do Senhor , ele também te rejeitou a ti, para que não sejas rei.
24 Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.
24 Então, disse Saul a Samuel: Pequei, pois transgredi o mandamento do Senhor e as tuas palavras; porque temi o povo e dei ouvidos à sua voz.
25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD."
25 Agora, pois, te rogo, perdoa-me o meu pecado e volta comigo, para que adore o Senhor .
26 Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you; for you have rejected the LORD’s word, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel."
26 Porém Samuel disse a Saul: Não tornarei contigo; visto que rejeitaste a palavra do Senhor , já ele te rejeitou a ti, para que não sejas rei sobre Israel.
27 As Samuel turned around to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.
27 Virando-se Samuel para se ir, Saul o segurou pela orla do manto, e este se rasgou.
28 Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbour of yours who is better than you.
28 Então, Samuel lhe disse: O Senhor rasgou, hoje, de ti o reino de Israel e o deu ao teu próximo, que é melhor do que tu.
29 Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent."
29 Também a Glória de Israel não mente, nem se arrepende, porquanto não é homem, para que se arrependa.
30 Then he said, "I have sinned; yet please honour me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship the LORD your God."
30 Então, disse Saul: Pequei; honra-me, porém, agora, diante dos anciãos do meu povo e diante de Israel; e volta comigo, para que adore o Senhor , teu Deus.
31 So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.
31 Então, Samuel seguiu a Saul, e este adorou o Senhor .
32 Then Samuel said, "Bring Agag the king of the Amalekites here to me!"
32 Disse Samuel: Traze-me aqui Agague, rei dos amalequitas. Agague veio a ele, confiante; e disse: Certamente, já se foi a amargura da morte.
33 Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless amongst women!" Then Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
33 Disse, porém, Samuel: Assim como a tua espada desfilhou mulheres, assim desfilhada ficará tua mãe entre as mulheres. E Samuel despedaçou a Agague perante o Senhor , em Gilgal.
34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
34 Então, Samuel se foi a Ramá; e Saul subiu à sua casa, a Gibeá de Saul.
35 Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, but Samuel mourned for Saul. The LORD grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
35 Nunca mais viu Samuel a Saul até ao dia da sua morte; porém tinha pena de Saul. O Senhor se arrependeu de haver constituído Saul rei sobre Israel.
