1 The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, with all his army, all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying:
1 Palavra que do Senhor veio a Jeremias, quando Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e todo o seu exército, e todos os reinos da terra que estavam debaixo do seu poder, e todos os povos pelejavam contra Jerusalém e contra todas as suas cidades, dizendo:
2 “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Go, and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Yahweh says, “Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.
2 Assim diz o Senhor , Deus de Israel: Vai, fala a Zedequias, rei de Judá, e dize-lhe: Assim diz o Senhor : Eis que eu entrego esta cidade nas mãos do rei da Babilônia, o qual a queimará.
3 You won’t escape out of his hand, but will surely be taken and delivered into his hand. Your eyes will see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he will speak with you mouth to mouth. You will go to Babylon.”’
3 Tu não lhe escaparás das mãos; pelo contrário, serás preso e entregue nas suas mãos; tu verás o rei da Babilônia face a face, e ele te falará boca a boca, e entrarás na Babilônia.
4 “Yet hear Yahweh’s word, O Zedekiah king of Judah. Yahweh says concerning you, ‘You won’t die by the sword.
4 Todavia, ouve a palavra do Senhor , ó Zedequias, rei de Judá: Assim diz o Senhor a teu respeito: Não morrerás à espada.
5 You will die in peace; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they will make a burning for you. They will lament you, saying, “Ah Lord!” for I have spoken the word,’ says Yahweh.”
5 Em paz morrerás, e te queimarão perfumes a ti, como se queimaram a teus pais, que, como reis, te precederam, e te prantearão, dizendo: Ah! Senhor! Pois eu é que disse a palavra, diz o Senhor .
6 Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,
6 Falou Jeremias, o profeta, a Zedequias, rei de Judá, todas estas palavras, em Jerusalém,
7 when the king of Babylon’s army was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these alone remained of the cities of Judah as fortified cities.
7 quando o exército do rei da Babilônia pelejava contra Jerusalém e contra todas as cidades que restavam de Judá, contra Laquis e contra Azeca; porque só estas ficaram das cidades fortificadas de Judá.
8 The word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them,
8 Palavra que do Senhor veio a Jeremias, depois que o rei Zedequias fez aliança com todo o povo de Jerusalém, para lhes apregoar a liberdade:
9 that every man should let his male servant, and every man his female servant, who is a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free, that no one should make bondservants of them, of a Jew his brother.
9 que cada um despedisse forro o seu servo e cada um, a sua serva, hebreu ou hebreia, de maneira que ninguém retivesse como escravos hebreus, seus irmãos.
10 All the princes and all the people obeyed who had entered into the covenant, that everyone should let his male servant and everyone his female servant go free, that no one should make bondservants of them any more. They obeyed and let them go,
10 Todos os príncipes e todo o povo que haviam entrado na aliança obedeceram, despedindo forro cada um o seu servo e cada um a sua serva, de maneira que já não os retiveram como escravos; obedeceram e os despediram.
11 but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids whom they had let go free to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
11 Mas depois se arrependeram, e fizeram voltar os servos e as servas que haviam despedido forros, e os sujeitaram por servos e por servas.
12 Therefore Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
12 Veio, pois, a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias, da parte do Senhor , dizendo:
13 “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying:
13 Assim diz o Senhor , Deus de Israel: Eu fiz aliança com vossos pais, no dia em que os tirei da terra do Egito, da casa da servidão, dizendo:
14 At the end of seven years, every man of you shall release his brother who is a Hebrew, who has been sold to you, and has served you six years. You shall let him go free from you. But your fathers didn’t listen to me, and didn’t incline their ear.
14 Ao fim de sete anos, libertareis cada um a seu irmão hebreu, que te for vendido a ti e te houver servido seis anos, e despedi-lo-ás forro; mas vossos pais não me obedeceram, nem inclinaram os seus ouvidos a mim.
15 You had now turned, and had done that which is right in my eyes, in every man proclaiming liberty to his neighbor. You had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name;
15 Não há muito, havíeis voltado a fazer o que é reto perante mim, apregoando liberdade cada um ao seu próximo; e tínheis feito perante mim aliança, na casa que se chama pelo meu nome;
16 but you turned and profaned my name, and every man caused his servant and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return. You brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.’”
16 mudastes, porém, e profanastes o meu nome, fazendo voltar cada um o seu servo e cada um, a sua serva, os quais, deixados à vontade, já tínheis despedido forros, e os sujeitastes, para que fossem vossos servos e servas.
17 Therefore Yahweh says: “You have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor. Behold, I proclaim to you a liberty,” says Yahweh, “to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine. I will make you be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.
17 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor : Vós não me obedecestes, para apregoardes a liberdade, cada um a seu irmão e cada um ao seu próximo; pois eis que eu vos apregoo a liberdade, diz o Senhor , para a espada, para a peste e para a fome; farei que sejais um espetáculo horrendo para todos os reinos da terra.
18 I will give the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me when they cut the calf in two and passed between its parts:
18 Farei aos homens que transgrediram a minha aliança e não cumpriram as palavras da aliança que fizeram perante mim como eles fizeram com o bezerro que dividiram em duas partes, passando eles pelo meio das duas porções;
19 the princes of Judah, the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, the priests, and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf.
19 os príncipes de Judá, os príncipes de Jerusalém, os oficiais, os sacerdotes e todo o povo da terra, os quais passaram por meio das porções do bezerro,
20 I will even give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. Their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth.
20 entregá-los-ei nas mãos de seus inimigos e nas mãos dos que procuram a sua morte, e os cadáveres deles servirão de pasto às aves dos céus e aos animais da terra.
21 “I will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes into the hands of their enemies, into the hands of those who seek their life and into the hands of the king of Babylon’s army, who has gone away from you.
21 A Zedequias, rei de Judá, e a seus príncipes, entregá-los-ei nas mãos de seus inimigos e nas mãos dos que procuram a sua morte, nas mãos do exército do rei da Babilônia, que já se retiraram de vós.
22 Behold, I will command,” says Yahweh, “and cause them to return to this city. They will fight against it, take it, and burn it with fire. I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”
22 Eis que eu darei ordem, diz o Senhor , e os farei tornar a esta cidade, e pelejarão contra ela, tomá-la-ão e a queimarão; e as cidades de Judá porei em assolação, de sorte que ninguém habite nelas.
