1 Moreover Elihu answered,
1 Em seguida Eliú disse:
2 “Do you think this to be your right, or do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s,’
2 “Jó, você não tem o direito de dizer que para Deus você é inocente
3 that you ask, ‘What advantage will it be to you? What profit will I have, more than if I had sinned?’
3 e também não pode perguntar assim: ‘Ó Deus, será que te sentes mal com o meu pecado? E que vantagem tenho se não pecar?’
4 I will answer you, and your companions with you.
4 Pois eu vou responder a você e também aos seus amigos.
5 Look to the skies, and see. See the skies, which are higher than you.
5 “Olhe para o céu e veja como as nuvens estão muito acima de você.
6 If you have sinned, what effect do you have against him? If your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him?
6 Se você peca, isso não atinge a Deus lá no alto; as suas faltas, por muitas que sejam, não vão prejudicar a Deus.
7 If you are righteous, what do you give him? Or what does he receive from your hand?
7 Se você faz o bem, não está ajudando a Deus; ele não precisa de nada que é seu.
8 Your wickedness may hurt a man as you are, and your righteousness may profit a son of man.
8 São os outros que sofrem por causa dos pecados que você comete; e também são eles que são ajudados quando você pratica o bem.
9 “By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.
9 “Os homens, quando são perseguidos por todos os lados, gemem e gritam, pedindo que alguém os livre das mãos dos poderosos;
10 But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night,
10 porém não voltam para Deus, o seu Criador, que dá forças nas horas mais escuras.
11 who teaches us more than the animals of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?’
11 Eles não voltam para Deus, que os torna sábios, mais sábios do que as aves e os animais.
12 There they cry, but no one answers, because of the pride of evil men.
12 Eles gritam por socorro, mas Deus não responde porque são orgulhosos e maus.
13 Surely God will not hear an empty cry, neither will the Almighty regard it.
13 Mas é falso dizer que Deus não ouve ou que o Todo-Poderoso não vê.
14 How much less when you say you don’t see him. The cause is before him, and you wait for him!
14 “Jó, você diz que não pode ver a Deus; mas espere com paciência, pois a sua causa está com ele.
15 But now, because he has not visited in his anger, neither does he greatly regard arrogance,
15 Você pensa que Deus não castiga, que ele não presta muita atenção no pecado.
16 therefore Job opens his mouth with empty talk, and he multiplies words without knowledge.”
16 Não adianta nada continuar o seu discurso; você fala muito, porém não sabe o que está dizendo.”
