1 Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of Yahweh comes, for it is close at hand:
1 Tocai a trombeta em Sião, dai alarme no meu monte santo! Estremeçam todos os habitantes da terra, eis que se aproxima o dia do Senhor,
2 A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness. As the dawn spreading on the mountains, a great and strong people; there has never been the like, neither will there be any more after them, even to the years of many generations.
2 dia de trevas e de escuridão, dia nublado e coberto de nuvens. Tal como a luz da aurora, derrama-se sobre os montes um povo imenso e vigoroso, como nunca houve semelhante desde o princípio, nem depois haverá outro até as épocas mais longínquas.
3 A fire devours before them, and behind them, a flame burns. The land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them, a desolate wilderness. Yes, and no one has escaped them.
3 Diante dele um fogo devorador; atrás, uma chama abrasadora. Diante dele a terra é um paraíso; atrás, é um deserto desolador; nada lhe escapa.
4 Their appearance is as the appearance of horses, and they run as horsemen.
4 Têm a aparência de uma tropa de cavalos, e como cavalos se precipitam:
5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains, they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devours the stubble, like a strong people set in battle array.
5 dir-se-ia o estrondo de carros saltando sobre os cumes dos montes, ou o crepitar da chama que devora a palha, ou um formidável exército disposto em ordem de batalha.
6 At their presence the peoples are in anguish. All faces have grown pale.
6 Diante deles tremem os povos, os rostos empalidecem;
7 They run like mighty men. They climb the wall like warriors. They each march in his line, and they don’t swerve off course.
7 como valentes eles se precipitam {para o assalto}, e escalam as muralhas como guerreiros. Segue cada um o seu caminho, sem confundir suas fileiras.
8 One doesn’t jostle another. They each march in their own path. They burst through the defenses and don’t break ranks.
8 Não empurram uns aos outros, marcham cada um em seu pelotão. Abrem caminho por entre as armas, sem romper suas fileiras.
9 They rush on the city. They run on the wall. They climb up into the houses. They enter in at the windows like thieves.
9 Espalham-se pela cidade, correm por cima dos muros, invadem as casas, entrando pelas janelas como ladrões.
10 The earth quakes before them. The heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.
10 Diante deles treme a terra, os céus vacilam, o sol e a lua se obscurecem, as estrelas perdem o seu brilho.
11 Yahweh thunders his voice before his army, for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of Yahweh is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?
11 À frente do seu exército, o Senhor faz ouvir a sua voz, pois seu batalhão é imenso e poderoso para executar sua palavra. Sim, o dia do Senhor é grandioso e temível! Quem o poderá suportar?
12 “Yet even now,” says Yahweh, “turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.”
12 Por isso, agora ainda - oráculo do Senhor -, voltai a mim de todo o vosso coração, com jejuns, lágrimas e gemidos de luto.
13 Tear your heart and not your garments, and turn to Yahweh, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity.
13 Rasgai vossos corações e não vossas vestes; voltai ao Senhor vosso Deus, porque ele é bom e compassivo, longânime e indulgente, pronto a arrepender-se do castigo que inflige.
14 Who knows? He may turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal offering and a drink offering to Yahweh, your God.
14 Quem sabe se ele mudará de parecer e voltará atrás, deixando após si uma bênção, ofertas e libações para o Senhor, vosso Deus?
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion! Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly.
15 Tocai a trombeta em Sião: publicai o jejum, convocai a assembléia, reuni o povo;
16 Gather the people. Sanctify the assembly. Assemble the elders. Gather the children, and those who nurse from breasts. Let the bridegroom go out of his room, and the bride out of her chamber.
16 santificai a assembléia, agrupai os anciãos, congregai as crianças e os meninos de peito; saia o recém-casado de seus aposentos, e a esposa de sua câmara nupcial.
17 Let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, “Spare your people, Yahweh, and don’t give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’”
17 Chorem os sacerdotes, servos do Senhor, entre o pórtico e o altar, e digam: Tende piedade de vosso povo, Senhor, não entregueis à ignomínia vossa herança, para que não se torne ela o escárnio dos pagãos! Por que diriam eles: onde está o seu Deus?
18 Then Yahweh was jealous for his land, And had pity on his people.
18 O Senhor afeiçoou-se à sua terra, teve compaixão de seu povo;
19 Yahweh answered his people, “Behold, and you will be satisfied with them; and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
19 o Senhor respondeu ao seu povo: Vou mandar-vos trigo, vinho e óleo, e deles sereis fartos, e não vos farei mais objeto de opróbrio diante dos pagãos.
20 But I will remove the northern army far away from you, and will drive it into a barren and desolate land, its front into the eastern sea, and its back into the western sea; and its stench will come up, and its bad smell will rise.” Surely he has done great things.
20 Afastarei de vós aquele que vem do norte, e lançá-lo-ei para uma terra árida e deserta, sua vanguarda para o mar oriental, e sua retaguarda para o mar ocidental. Exalar-se-á um mau cheiro dali, um cheiro de podridão {porque ele fez grandes coisas!}
21 Land, don’t be afraid. Be glad and rejoice, for Yahweh has done great things.
21 Não temas, terra, estremece de alegria e de júbilo, porque o Senhor fez grandes coisas.
22 Don’t be afraid, you animals of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness spring up, for the tree bears its fruit. The fig tree and the vine yield their strength.
22 Não temais, animais dos campos, porque as pastagens do deserto reverdecerão, as árvores darão seu fruto, a figueira e a vinha produzirão abundantemente.
23 “Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in Yahweh, your God; for he gives you the early rain in just measure, and he causes the rain to come down for you, the early rain and the latter rain, as before.
23 Alegrai-vos, filhos de Sião, e rejubilai no Senhor, vosso Deus, porque ele vos dá as chuvas do outono no tempo oportuno, e faz cair chuvas copiosas sobre vós, as chuvas do outono e da primavera, como dantes.
24 The threshing floors will be full of wheat, and the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
24 As eiras se encherão de trigo, os lagares transbordarão de vinho e de óleo novo.
25 I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.
25 Restituir-vos-ei as colheitas devoradas pelo gafanhoto, pelo roedor, pelo devastador e pela lagarta, {esse} meu poderoso exército que mandei contra vós.
26 You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied, and will praise the name of Yahweh, your God, who has dealt wondrously with you; and my people will never again be disappointed.
26 Comereis abundantemente e vos fartareis, e louvareis o nome do Senhor, vosso Deus, que fez maravilhas em vosso favor; e jamais meu povo será confundido.
27 You will know that I am among Israel, and that I am Yahweh, your God, and there is no one else; and my people will never again be disappointed.
27 Sabereis então que estou no meio de Israel, que sou o Senhor, vosso Deus, e que não há outro. E jamais meu povo será confundido.
28 “It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions.
28 Depois disso, acontecerá que derramarei o meu Espírito sobre todo ser vivo: vossos filhos e vossas filhas profetizarão; vossos anciãos terão sonhos, e vossos jovens terão visões.
29 And also on the servants and on the handmaids in those days, I will pour out my Spirit.
29 Naqueles dias, derramarei também o meu Espírito sobre os escravos e as escravas.
30 I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood, fire, and pillars of smoke.
30 Farei aparecer prodígios no céu e na terra, sangue, fogo e turbilhões de fumo.
31 The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes.
31 O sol converter-se-á em trevas e a lua, em sangue, ao se aproximar o grandioso e temível dia do Senhor.
32 It will happen that whoever will call on Yahweh’s name shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as Yahweh has said, and among the remnant, those whom Yahweh calls.
32 Mas todo o que invocar o nome do Senhor será poupado, porque, sobre o monte Sião e em Jerusalém, haverá um resto, como o Senhor disse, e entre os sobreviventes estarão os que o Senhor tiver chamado.
