1 A Song of degrees of David. If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;
1 Que teria acontecido se o do nosso lado? Responda, povo de Israel!
2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
2 O povo responde: “Se o do nosso lado quando os nossos inimigos nos atacaram,
3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
3 eles nos teriam engolido vivos; pois, furiosos, se voltaram contra nós.
4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
4 As águas nos teriam levado para longe, a enchente nos teria coberto,
5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
5 e teríamos morrido afogados na correnteza violenta.”
6 Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
6 Demos graças ao Senhor , que não deixou que os nossos inimigos nos destruíssem.
7 Our soul hath escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we have escaped.
7 Como o passarinho, nós escapamos da armadilha do caçador. A armadilha quebrou, e ficamos livres.
8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
8 O nosso socorro vem do Senhor Deus, que fez o céu e a terra.
