1 Paul, a slave of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
1 Paulo, servo de Deus e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, segundo a fé dos eleitos de Deus e o conhecimento da verdade, que é segundo a piedade,
2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who can't lie, promised before eternal times;
2 em esperança da vida eterna, a qual Deus, que não pode mentir, prometeu antes do começo do mundo,
3 but in his own seasons manifested his word in the message, with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior;
3 mas, a seu tempo, manifestou a sua palavra pela pregação que me foi confiada segundo o mandamento de Deus, nosso Salvador.
4 to Titus, my true child after a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
4 A Tito, meu próprio filho, segundo a fé comum: Graça, misericórdia e paz, da parte de Deus o Pai e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador.
5 For this cause I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that were wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I gave you charge;
5 Por esta causa te deixei em Creta, para que pusesses em ordem as coisas que ainda restam e estabelecesses anciãos em cada cidade, como já te mandei:
6 if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of riot or unruly.
6 Aquele que for irrepreensível, marido de uma só esposa, tendo filhos crentes, não acusados de libertinagem ou rebeldia.
7 For the overseer must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of monetary gain;
7 Porque o bispo deve ser irrepreensível, como administrador de Deus, não soberbo, nem iracundo, nem dado ao vinho, nem espancador, nem cobiçoso de lucro desonesto;
8 but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled;
8 mas amante da hospitalidade, amante dos bons, sóbrio, justo, santo, temperante;
9 holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers.
9 retendo firme a fiel palavra, que lhe foi ensinada, para que seja capaz, pela sã doutrina, tanto de admoestar como de convencer os contradizentes.
10 For there are also many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
10 Porque há muitos desordenados, faladores e enganadores vãos, principalmente os da circuncisão,
11 whose mouths must be stopped; men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for greed of monetary gain's sake.
11 aos quais convém tapar a boca; que destroem casas inteiras, ensinando coisas que não convém, por causa da ganância do lucro.
12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons.
12 Um deles, seu próprio profeta, disse: Os cretenses são sempre mentirosos, bestas ruins, ventres preguiçosos.
13 This testimony is true. For which cause reprove them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,
13 Este testemunho é verdadeiro. Portanto, repreende-os severamente, para que sejam sãos na fé,
14 not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
14 não dando ouvidos às fábulas judaicas, nem aos mandamentos de homens que se desviam da verdade.
15 To the pure all things are pure: but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
15 Para os puros, todas as coisas são puras, mas para os contaminados e infiéis, nada é puro; antes, até sua mente e consciência estão contaminadas.
16 They profess that they know God; but by their works they deny him, being disgusting, and disobedient, and to every good work disapproved.
16 Eles professam que conhecem a Deus, mas com as obras o negam, sendo abomináveis e desobedientes, e reprovados para toda boa obra.
