Josué 8

1 And Yahweh said to Joshua, Don't be afraid, neither be dismayed: take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land;
1 Disse o Senhor a Josué: Não temas, não te atemorizes; toma contigo toda a gente de guerra, e dispõe-te, e sobe a Ai; olha que entreguei nas tuas mãos o rei de Ai, e o seu povo, e a sua cidade, e a sua terra.
2 And you will do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king: only its spoil, and its cattle, you{+} will take for a prey to yourselves: set yourself an ambush for the city behind it.
2 Farás a Ai e a seu rei como fizeste a Jericó e a seu rei; somente que para vós outros saqueareis os seus despojos e o seu gado; põe emboscadas à cidade, por detrás dela.
3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them forth by night.
3 Então, Josué se levantou, e toda a gente de guerra, para subir contra Ai; escolheu Josué trinta mil homens valentes e os enviou de noite.
4 And he commanded them, saying, Look, you{+} will lie in ambush against the city, behind the city; don't go very far from the city, but all of you{+} be ready:
4 Deu-lhes ordem, dizendo: Eis que vos poreis de emboscada contra a cidade, por detrás dela; não vos distancieis muito da cidade; e todos estareis alertas.
5 and I, and all the people who are with me, will approach to the city. And it will come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them;
5 Porém eu e todo o povo que está comigo nos aproximaremos da cidade; e será que, quando saírem, como dantes, contra nós, fugiremos diante deles.
6 and they will come out after us, until we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: so we will flee before them;
6 Deixemo-los, pois, sair atrás de nós, até que os tiremos da cidade; porque dirão: Fogem diante de nós como dantes. Assim, fugiremos diante deles.
7 and you{+} will rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city: for Yahweh your{+} God will deliver it into your{+} hand.
7 Então, saireis vós da emboscada e tomareis a cidade; porque o Senhor , vosso Deus, vo-la entregará nas vossas mãos.
8 And it will be, when you{+} have seized on the city, that you{+} will set the city on fire; according to the word of Yahweh you{+} will do: see, I have commanded you{+}.
8 Havendo vós tomado a cidade, pôr-lhe-eis fogo; segundo a palavra do Senhor , fareis; eis que vo-lo ordenei.
9 And Joshua sent them forth; and they went to the ambush, and remained between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
9 Assim, Josué os enviou, e eles se foram à emboscada; e ficaram entre Betel e Ai, ao ocidente de Ai; porém Josué passou aquela noite no meio do povo.
10 And Joshua arose up early in the morning, and mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
10 Levantou-se Josué de madrugada, passou revista ao povo, e subiram ele e os anciãos de Israel, diante do povo, contra Ai.
11 And all the people, [even] the [men of] war who were with him, went up, and drew near, and came before the city, and encamped on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between him and Ai.
11 Subiram também todos os homens de guerra que estavam com ele, e chegaram-se, e vieram defronte da cidade; e alojaram-se do lado norte de Ai. Havia um vale entre eles e Ai.
12 And he took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of the city.
12 Tomou também uns cinco mil homens e os pôs entre Betel e Ai, em emboscada, ao ocidente da cidade.
13 So they set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their ambushers who were on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
13 Assim foi posto o povo: todo o acampamento ao norte da cidade e a emboscada ao ocidente dela; e foi Josué aquela noite até ao meio do vale.
14 And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, for the encounter toward the Arabah; but he didn't know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
14 E sucedeu que, vendo-o o rei de Ai, ele e os homens da cidade apressaram-se e, levantando-se de madrugada, saíram de encontro a Israel, à batalha, defronte das campinas, porque ele não sabia achar-se contra ele uma emboscada atrás da cidade.
15 And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
15 Josué, pois, e todo o Israel se houveram como feridos diante deles e fugiram pelo caminho do deserto.
16 And all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
16 Pelo que todo o povo que estava na cidade foi convocado para os perseguir; e perseguiram Josué e foram afastados da cidade.
17 And there was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that didn't go out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
17 Nem um só homem ficou em Ai, nem em Betel que não saísse após os israelitas; e deixaram a cidade aberta e perseguiram Israel.
18 And Yahweh said to Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai; for I will give it into your hand. And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.
18 Então, disse o Senhor a Josué: Estende para Ai a lança que tens na mão; porque a esta darei na tua mão; e Josué estendeu para a cidade a lança que tinha na mão.
19 And [those in] the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it; and they hurried and set the city on fire.
19 Então, a emboscada se levantou apressadamente do seu lugar, e, ao estender ele a mão, vieram à cidade e a tomaram; e apressaram-se e nela puseram fogo.
20 And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, look, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.
20 Virando-se os homens de Ai para trás, olharam, e eis que a fumaça da cidade subia ao céu, e não puderam fugir nem para um lado nem para outro; porque o povo que fugia para o deserto se tornou contra os que os perseguiam.
21 And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.
21 Vendo Josué e todo o Israel que a emboscada tomara a cidade e que a fumaça da cidade subia, voltaram e feriram os homens de Ai.
22 And the others came forth out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.
22 Da cidade saíram os outros ao encontro do inimigo, que, assim, ficou no meio de Israel, uns de uma parte, outros de outra; e feriram-nos de tal sorte, que nenhum deles sobreviveu, nem escapou.
23 And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.
23 Porém ao rei de Ai tomaram vivo e o trouxeram a Josué.
24 And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they pursued them, and they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all Israel returned to Ai, and struck it with the edge of the sword.
24 Tendo os israelitas acabado de matar todos os moradores de Ai no campo e no deserto onde os tinham perseguido, e havendo todos caído a fio de espada, e sendo já todos consumidos, todo o Israel voltou a Ai, e a passaram a fio de espada.
25 And all who fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
25 Os que caíram aquele dia, tanto homens como mulheres, foram doze mil, todos os moradores de Ai.
26 For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had completely destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
26 Porque Josué não retirou a mão que estendera com a lança até haver destruído totalmente os moradores de Ai.
27 Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of Yahweh which he commanded Joshua.
27 Os israelitas saquearam, entretanto, para si o gado e os despojos daquela cidade, segundo a palavra do Senhor , que ordenara a Josué.
28 So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap forever, even a desolation, to this day.
28 Então, Josué pôs fogo a Ai e a reduziu, para sempre, a um montão, a ruínas até ao dia de hoje.
29 And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening: and at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised on it a great heap of stones, to this day.
29 Ao rei de Ai, enforcou-o e o deixou no madeiro até à tarde; ao pôr do sol, por ordem de Josué, tiraram do madeiro o cadáver, e o lançaram à porta da cidade, e sobre ele levantaram um montão de pedras, que até hoje permanece.
30 Then Joshua built an altar to Yahweh, the God of Israel, in mount Ebal,
30 Então, Josué edificou um altar ao Senhor , Deus de Israel, no monte Ebal,
31 as Moses the slave of Yahweh commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, an altar of uncut stones, on which no man had lifted up any iron: and they offered on it burnt-offerings to Yahweh, and sacrificed peace-offerings.
31 como Moisés, servo do Senhor , ordenara aos filhos de Israel, segundo o que está escrito no Livro da Lei de Moisés, a saber, um altar de pedras toscas, sobre o qual se não manejara instrumento de ferro; sobre ele ofereceram holocaustos ao Senhor e apresentaram ofertas pacíficas.
32 And he wrote there on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the sons of Israel.
32 Escreveu, ali, em pedras, uma cópia da lei de Moisés, que já este havia escrito diante dos filhos de Israel.
33 And all Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, that bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, as well the sojourner as the homeborn; half of them in front of mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of mount Ebal; as Moses the slave of Yahweh had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.
33 Todo o Israel, com os seus anciãos, e os seus príncipes, e os seus juízes estavam de um e de outro lado da arca, perante os levitas sacerdotes que levavam a arca da Aliança do Senhor , tanto estrangeiros como naturais; metade deles, em frente do monte Gerizim, e a outra metade, em frente do monte Ebal; como Moisés, servo do Senhor , outrora, ordenara que fosse abençoado o povo de Israel.
34 And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law.
34 Depois, leu todas as palavras da lei, a bênção e a maldição, segundo tudo o que está escrito no Livro da Lei.
35 There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the sojourners who were among them.
35 Palavra nenhuma houve, de tudo o que Moisés ordenara, que Josué não lesse para toda a congregação de Israel, e para as mulheres, e os meninos, e os estrangeiros que andavam no meio deles.
