¹ Moreover Elihu answered and said,

¹ Disse mais Eliú:

² Do you think this to be [your] right, [Or] do you say, My righteousness is more than God's,

² Achas que é justo dizeres: Maior é a minha justiça do que a de Deus?

³ That you say, What advantage will it be to you? [And], What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?

³ Porque dizes: De que me serviria ela? Que proveito tiraria dela mais do que do meu pecado?

⁴ I will answer you, And your companions with you.

⁴ Dar-te-ei resposta, a ti e aos teus amigos contigo.

⁵ Look to the heavens, and see; And look at the skies, which are higher than you.

⁵ Atenta para os céus e vê; contempla as altas nuvens acima de ti.

⁶ If you have sinned, what effect do you have against him? And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him?

⁶ Se pecas, que mal lhe causas tu? Se as tuas transgressões se multiplicam, que lhe fazes?

⁷ If you are righteous, what do you give him? Or what does he receive of your hand?

⁷ Se és justo, que lhe dás ou que recebe ele da tua mão?

⁸ Your wickedness [may hurt] a man as you are; And your righteousness [may profit] a son of man.

⁸ A tua impiedade só pode fazer o mal ao homem como tu mesmo; e a tua justiça, dar proveito ao filho do homem.

⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

⁹ Por causa das muitas opressões, os homens clamam, clamam por socorro contra o braço dos poderosos.

¹⁰ But none says, Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night,

¹⁰ Mas ninguém diz: Onde está Deus, que me fez, que inspira canções de louvor durante a noite,

¹¹ Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, And makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

¹¹ que nos ensina mais do que aos animais da terra e nos faz mais sábios do que as aves dos céus?

¹² There they cry, but none gives answer, Because of the pride of evil men.

¹² Clamam, porém ele não responde, por causa da arrogância dos maus.

¹³ Surely God will not hear an empty [cry], Neither will the Almighty regard it.

¹³ Só gritos vazios Deus não ouvirá, nem atentará para eles o Todo-Poderoso.

¹⁴ How much less when you say you don't see him, The cause is before him, and you wait for him!

¹⁴ Jó, ainda que dizes que não o vês, a tua causa está diante dele; por isso, espera nele.

¹⁵ But now, because he has not visited in his anger, Neither does he greatly regard foolishness;

¹⁵ Mas agora, porque Deus na sua ira não está punindo, nem fazendo muito caso das transgressões,

¹⁶ Therefore Job opens his mouth in vanity; He multiplies words without knowledge.

¹⁶ abres a tua boca, com palavras vãs, amontoando frases de ignorante.
