1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:
1 Eu, Paulo, chamado pela vontade de Deus para ser apóstolo de Cristo Jesus, escrevo esta carta, com nosso irmão Timóteo, à igreja de Deus em Corinto e a todo o seu povo santo em toda a Acaia.
2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Que Deus, nosso Pai, e o Senhor Jesus Cristo lhes deem graça e paz.
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
3 Louvado seja Deus, Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Pai misericordioso e Deus de todo encorajamento.
4 Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
4 Ele nos encoraja em todas as nossas aflições, para que, com o encorajamento que recebemos de Deus, possamos encorajar outros quando eles passarem por aflições.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds by Christ.
5 Pois, quanto mais sofrimento por Cristo suportarmos, mais encorajamento será derramado sobre nós por meio de Cristo.
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
6 Mesmo quando estamos sobrecarregados de aflições, é para o encorajamento e a salvação de vocês. Pois, quando somos encorajados, certamente encorajaremos vocês, e então vocês poderão suportar pacientemente os mesmos sofrimentos que nós.
7 And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing, that as all of you are partakers of the sufferings, so shall all of you be also of the consolation.
7 Temos firme esperança de que, assim como vocês participam de nossos sofrimentos, também participarão de nosso encorajamento.
8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
8 Irmãos, queremos que saibam das aflições pelas quais passamos na província da Ásia. Fomos esmagados e oprimidos além da nossa capacidade de suportar, e pensamos que não sobreviveríamos.
9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead:
9 De fato, esperávamos morrer. Mas, como resultado, deixamos de confiar em nós mesmos e aprendemos a confiar somente em Deus, que ressuscita os mortos.
10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
10 Ele nos livrou do perigo mortal, e nos livrará outra vez. Nele depositamos nossa esperança, e ele continuará a nos livrar.
11 All of you also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
11 E vocês nos têm ajudado ao orar por nós. Então muitos darão graças porque Deus, em sua bondade, respondeu a tantas orações feitas em nosso favor.
12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.
12 Podemos dizer com certeza e com a consciência limpa que temos vivido em santidade e sinceridade dadas por Deus. Dependemos da graça divina, e não da sabedoria humana. É dessa forma que nos temos conduzido diante do mundo e, especialmente, em relação a vocês.
13 For we write no other things unto you, than what all of you read or acknowledge; and I trust all of you shall acknowledge even to the end;
13 Nossas cartas foram claras e objetivas, não havendo nada escrito nas entrelinhas ou que não conseguissem compreender. Espero que um dia vocês nos entendam plenamente,
14 As also all of you have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as all of you also are our's in the day of the Lord Jesus.
14 mesmo que não o façam agora. Então, no dia do Senhor Jesus, poderão se orgulhar de nós como nos orgulhamos de vocês.
15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that all of you might have a second benefit;
15 Porque eu estava tão certo de sua compreensão e confiança, queria abençoá-los duplamente visitando-os duas vezes,
16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.
16 primeiro a caminho da Macedônia e depois ao voltar de lá. Então vocês poderiam me ajudar com minha viagem para a Judeia.
17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use levity? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?
17 Talvez vocês estejam se perguntando por que mudei de ideia. Será que faço meus planos de modo irresponsável? Será que sou como as pessoas do mundo, que dizem “sim” quando na verdade querem dizer “não”?
18 But as God is true, our word (o. logos) toward you was not yea and nay.
18 Tão certo como Deus é fiel, nossa palavra a vocês não oscila entre “sim” e “não”.
19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
19 Pois Jesus Cristo, o Filho de Deus, não oscila entre “sim” e “não”. Foi a respeito dele que Silas, Timóteo e eu lhes falamos e, sendo ele o “sim” definitivo, ele sempre faz o que diz.
20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
20 Pois todas as promessas de Deus se cumpriram em Cristo com um alto e claro “Sim!”. E, por meio de Cristo, confirmamos isso, de modo que nosso “Amém” se eleva a Deus para sua glória.
21 Now he which establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, is God;
21 É Deus quem nos capacita e a vocês a permanecermos firmes em Cristo. Ele nos ungiu
22 Who has also sealed us, and given the earn of the Spirit (o. pneuma) in our hearts.
22 e nos identificou como sua propriedade ao colocar em nosso coração o selo do Espírito, a garantia de tudo que ele nos prometeu.
23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.
23 Agora, invoco a Deus como testemunha de que foi para poupá-los que ainda não voltei a Corinto.
24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith all of you stand.
24 Isso não significa que queremos controlar vocês, dizendo-lhes como exercer sua fé. Nosso desejo é trabalhar com vocês para que tenham alegria, pois é pela fé que permanecem firmes.
