1 Samuel 16

1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill yours horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
1 O Senhor Deus disse a Samuel: — Até quando você vai continuar a ter pena de Saul? Eu não quero mais que ele seja rei de Israel. Encha um chifre com azeite e leve com você. Depois vá a Belém, até a casa de um homem chamado Jessé, pois eu escolhi um dos filhos dele para ser rei.
2 And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with you, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.
2 — Como posso fazer isso? — respondeu Samuel. — Se Saul souber disso, ele me mata! O — Leve um bezerro e diga que você foi lá para oferecer um
3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do: and you shall anoint unto me him whom I name unto you.
3 Convide Jessé para o sacrifício, e depois eu lhe digo o que fazer. Você ungirá como rei aquele que eu indicar.
4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Come you peaceably?
4 Samuel fez o que o Senhor Deus havia mandado e foi a Belém. Quando chegou lá, os líderes da cidade foram tremendo encontrá-lo e perguntaram: — A sua visita é de paz?
5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
5 — Sim! — respondeu ele. — Eu vim oferecer um sacrifício a Deus. Purifiquem-se e venham comigo. Ele mandou que Jessé e os seus filhos se purificassem e os convidou para o sacrifício.
6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.
6 Quando eles chegaram, Samuel viu Eliabe, um dos filhos de Jessé, e pensou: — Este homem que está aqui na presença de Deus, o
7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.
7 Mas o Senhor disse: — Não se impressione com a aparência nem com a altura deste homem. Eu o rejeitei porque não julgo como as pessoas julgam. Elas olham para a aparência, mas eu vejo o coração.
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this.
8 Então Jessé chamou o seu filho Abinadabe e o levou a Samuel. Mas Samuel disse: — Este também não foi escolhido pelo
9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this.
9 Aí Jessé trouxe o seu filho Simeia. E Samuel disse: — O
10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD has not chosen these.
10 Assim Jessé apresentou a Samuel sete dos seus filhos. E Samuel disse: — O
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all your children? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he comes here.
11 E perguntou a Jessé: — Você não tem mais nenhum filho? Jessé respondeu: — Tenho mais um, o caçula, mas ele está fora, tomando conta das ovelhas. — Então mande chamá-lo! — disse Samuel. — Nós não vamos oferecer o sacrifício enquanto ele não vier.
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was rosy, and likewise of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
12 Aí Jessé mandou buscá-lo. Era um belo rapaz, saudável e de olhos brilhantes. E o Senhor disse a Samuel: — É este mesmo. Unja-o.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
13 Samuel pegou o chifre cheio de azeite e ungiu Davi na frente dos seus irmãos. E o Espírito do Senhor dominou Davi e daquele dia em diante ficou com ele. E Samuel voltou para Ramá.
14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
14 O Espírito do Senhor saiu de Saul, e um espírito mau, mandado por Deus, começou a atormentá-lo.
15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.
15 Então os empregados de Saul lhe disseram: — Sabemos que um espírito mau mandado por Deus está atormentando o senhor.
16 Let our lord now command your servants, which are before you, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon you, that he shall play with his hand, and you shall be well.
16 Mande, e nós iremos procurar um homem que saiba tocar lira . Assim, quando o espírito mau vier sobre o senhor, o homem tocará a lira, e o senhor ficará bom de novo.
17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.
17 E Saul ordenou: — Procurem um homem que toque bem lira e o tragam aqui.
18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.
18 Um dos empregados respondeu: — Jessé, da cidade de Belém, tem um filho que é bom músico. Ele também é valente, bom soldado, fala bem, tem boa aparência, e o
19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David your son, which is with the sheep.
19 Aí Saul enviou mensageiros com este recado para Jessé: — Mande-me o seu filho Davi, aquele que toma conta das ovelhas.
20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
20 Então Jessé mandou Davi a Saul, e Davi levou de presente um odre cheio de vinho, um cabrito e um jumento carregado de pão.
21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armour bearer.
21 Davi foi e ficou trabalhando para Saul. Este gostou muito de Davi e o escolheu para carregar as suas armas.
22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray you, stand before me; for he has found favour in my sight.
22 E mandou a seguinte mensagem a Jessé: — Eu gostei de Davi. Deixe que ele fique aqui a meu serviço.
23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
23 Daí em diante, toda vez que o espírito mau mandado por Deus vinha sobre Saul, Davi pegava a sua lira e tocava. O espírito mau saía de Saul, e ele se sentia melhor e ficava bom novamente.
