1 Iacob lyfte vp his eyes and sawe hys brother Esau come and with him .iiij. hundred men. And he deuyded the childern vnto Lea and vnto Rahel and vnto ye ij. maydens.
1 Quando Jacó viu que Esaú vinha chegando com os seus quatrocentos homens, dividiu os seus filhos em grupos, que ficaram com Leia, com Raquel e com as duas escravas.
2 And he put the maydens ad their childern formest ad Lea and hir childern after and Rahel ad Ioseph hindermost.
2 As escravas e os seus filhos ficaram na frente, depois Leia com os seus filhos e por último Raquel e José.
3 And he went before them and fell on the grownde, vij. tymes vntill he came vnto his brother.
3 Depois Jacó passou e ficou na frente; sete vezes ele se ajoelhou e encostou o rosto no chão, até que chegou perto de Esaú.
4 Esau ranne agaynst him and enbraced hym and fell on his necke and kyssed him and they wepte.
4 Porém Esaú saiu correndo ao encontro de Jacó e o abraçou; ele pôs os braços em volta do seu pescoço e o beijou. E os dois choraram.
5 And he lifte vp his eyes and sawe the wyves and their childern and sayde: what are these which thou there hast? And he sayde: they are the childern which God hath geuen thy seruaunte.
5 Quando Esaú olhou em volta e viu as mulheres e as crianças, perguntou: — Quem são esses que estão com você? — São os filhos que Deus, na sua bondade, deu a este seu criado — respondeu Jacó.
6 Than came the maydens forth ad dyd their obaysaunce.
6 Então as escravas e os seus filhos chegaram perto de Esaú e se curvaram na frente dele.
7 Lea also and hir childern came and dyd their obaysaunce. And last of all came Ioseph and Rahel and dyd their obaysaunce.
7 Depois vieram Leia e os seus filhos e também se curvaram. Por último José e Raquel vieram e se curvaram.
8 And he sayde: what meanyst thou with all ye drooues which I mett. And he answered: to fynde grace in the syghte of my lorde.
8 Depois Esaú perguntou: — E o que são aqueles grupos que encontrei pelo caminho? Jacó respondeu: — Por meio deles pensei em ganhar a boa vontade do senhor.
9 And Esau sayde: I haue ynough my brother kepe that thou hast vnto thy silf.
9 Aí Esaú disse: — Eu já tenho bastante, meu irmão; fique com o que é seu.
10 Iacob answered: oh nay but yf I haue founde grace in thy syghte receaue my preaset of my hade: for I haue sene thy face as though I had sene ye face of God: wherfore receaue me to grace
10 Mas Jacó insistiu: — Não recuse. Se é que mereço um favor seu, aceite o meu presente. Para mim, ver o seu rosto é como ver o rosto de Deus, pois o senhor me recebeu tão bem.
11 and take my blessynge that I haue brought the for God hath geuen it me frely. And I haue ynough of all thynges. And so he compelled him to take it.
11 Por favor, aceite este presente que eu trouxe para o senhor. Deus tem sido bom para mim e me tem dado tudo o que preciso. E Jacó insistiu até que Esaú aceitou.
12 And he sayde: let us take oure iourney and goo and I will goo in thy copany.
12 Então Esaú disse: — Bem, vamos embora; eu vou na frente.
13 And he sayde vnto him: my lorde knoweth that I haue tendre childern ewes and kyne with yonge vnder myne hande which yf men shulde ouerdryue but euen one daye the hole flocke wolde dye.
13 Jacó respondeu: — Meu patrão, o senhor sabe que as crianças são fracas, e eu tenho de pensar nas ovelhas e vacas com crias. Se forem forçados a andar depressa demais, nem que seja por um dia só, todos os animais poderão morrer.
14 Let my lorde therfore goo before his servaunte and I will dryue fayre and softly accordynge as the catell that goth before me and the childern be able to endure: vntill I come to mi lorde vnto Seir.
14 É melhor que o meu patrão vá na frente deste seu criado. Eu vou atrás devagar, conforme o passo dos animais e dos meninos, até que chegue a Edom, onde o senhor mora.
15 And Esau sayde: let me yet leaue some of my folke with the. And he sayde: what neadeth it? let me fynde grace in the syghte of my lorde
15 Esaú disse: — Então deixe que alguns dos meus empregados fiquem com você para acompanhá-lo. Jacó respondeu: — Não é preciso. Eu só quero conquistar a amizade do meu patrão.
16 So Esau went his waye agayne yt same daye vnto Seir.
16 Naquele dia Esaú voltou pelo mesmo caminho para a região de Edom.
17 And Iacob toke his iourney toward Sucoth and bylt him an house and made boothes for his catell: wherof the name of the place is called Sucoth.
17 Jacó, por sua vez, foi para Sucote. Ali construiu uma casa para si e abrigos para o gado. Por isso puseram naquele lugar o nome de Sucote .
18 And Iacob went to Salem to ye cytie of Sichem in the lande of Canaa after that he was come from Mesopotamia and pitched before the cyte
18 Assim, Jacó voltou da Mesopotâmia para Canaã; ele chegou são e salvo à cidade de Siquém e armou o seu acampamento ali perto.
19 and bought a parcell of ground where he pitched his tent of the childern of Hemor Sichems father for an hundred lambes.
19 Por cem barras de prata comprou terras dos filhos de Hamor, o pai de Siquém, e nelas armou o seu acampamento.
20 And he made there an aulter and there called vpon the myghtie God of Israell.
20 Ali ele construiu um altar e pôs nele o nome de El, o Deus de Israel.
