1 When it was cocluded that we shuld sayle into Italy they delivered Paul and certayne other presoners vnto one named Iulius an vnder captayne of Cesars soudiars.
1 Quando ficou decidido que navegaríamos para a Itália, Paulo e alguns outros presos foram entregues a um centurião chamado Júlio, que pertencia ao Regimento Imperial.
2 And we entred into a ship of Adramicium and lowsed from lond apoynted to sayle by the costes of Asia one Aristarcus out of Macedonia of the contre of Thessalia beinge with vs.
2 Embarcamos num navio de Adramítio, que estava de partida para alguns lugares da província da Ásia, e saímos ao mar, estando conosco Aristarco, um macedônio de Tessalônica.
3 And the nexte daye we came to Sidon. And Iulius courteously entreated Paul and gave him liberte to goo vnto his frendes and to refresshe him selfe.
3 No dia seguinte, ancoramos em Sidom; e Júlio, num gesto de bondade para com Paulo, permitiu-lhe que fosse ao encontro dos seus amigos, para que estes suprissem as suas necessidades.
4 And from thence lanched we and sayled harde by Cypers because the wyndes were contrarye.
4 Quando partimos de lá, passamos ao norte de Chipre, porque os ventos nos eram contrários.
5 Then sayled we over the see of Cilicia and Pamphylia and came to Myra a cite in Lycia.
5 Tendo atravessado o mar aberto ao longo da Cilícia e da Panfília, ancoramos em Mirra, na Lícia.
6 And there ye vnder captayne founde a shippe of Alexander redy to sayle into Italy and put vs therin.
6 Ali, o centurião encontrou um navio alexandrino que estava de partida para a Itália e nele nos fez embarcar.
7 And when we had sayled slowly many dayes and scace were come over agaynst Gnydon (because the wynde with stode vs) we sayled harde by the costes of Candy over agaynste Salmo
7 Navegamos vagarosamente por muitos dias e tivemos dificuldade para chegar a Cnido. Não sendo possível prosseguir em nossa rota, devido aos ventos contrários, navegamos ao sul de Creta, defronte a Salmona.
8 and with moche worke sayled beyonde yt and came vnto a place called good porte. Nye whervnto was a citie called Lasea.
8 Costeamos a ilha com dificuldade e chegamos a um lugar chamado Bons Portos, perto da cidade de Laséia.
9 When moche tyme was spent and saylinge was now ieoperdeous because also that we had overlonge fasted Paul put them in remembraunce
9 Tínhamos perdido muito tempo, e agora a navegação se tornara perigosa, pois já havia passado o Jejum. Por isso Paulo os advertiu:
10 and sayde vnto them Syrs I perceave that this vyage wilbe with hurte and moche domage not of the ladynge and ship only: but also of oure lyves.
10 "Senhores, vejo que a nossa viagem será desastrosa e acarretará grande prejuízo para o navio, para a carga e também para as nossas vidas".
11 Neverthelather the vndercaptayne beleved the governer and the master better then tho thinges which were spoken of Paul.
11 Mas o centurião, em vez de ouvir o que Paulo falava, seguiu o conselho do piloto e do dono do navio.
12 And because the haven was not comodius to wynter in many toke counsell to departe thence yf by eny meanes they myght attayne to Phenices and there to wynter which is an haven of Candy and servith to the southwest and northwest wynde.
12 Visto que o porto não era próprio para passar o inverno, a maioria decidiu que deveríamos continuar navegando, com a esperança de alcançar Fenice e ali passar o inverno. Este era um porto de Creta, que dava para sudoeste e noroeste.
13 When the south wynde blewe they supposynge to obtayne their purpose lowsed vnto Asson and sayled paste all Candy.
13 Começando a soprar suavemente o vento sul, eles pensaram que haviam obtido o que desejavam; por isso levantaram âncoras e foram navegando ao longo da costa de Creta.
14 But anone after ther arose agaynste their purpose a flawe of wynde out of the northeeste.
14 Pouco tempo depois, desencadeou-se da ilha um vento muito forte, chamado Nordeste.
15 And when the ship was caught and coulde not resist the wynde we let her goo and drave with the wether.
15 O navio foi arrastado pela tempestade, sem poder resistir ao vento; assim, cessamos as manobras e ficamos à deriva.
16 And we came vnto an yle named Clauda and had moche worke to come by abote
16 Passando ao sul de uma pequena ilha chamada Clauda, foi com dificuldade que conseguimos recolher o barco salva-vidas.
17 which they toke vp and vsed helpe vndergerdynge the shippe fearynge lest we shuld have fallen into Syrtes and we let doune a vessell and so were caryed.
17 Levantando-o, lançaram mão de todos os meios para reforçar o navio com cordas; e temendo que ele encalhasse nos bancos de areia de Sirte, baixaram as velas e deixaram o navio à deriva.
18 The nexte daye when we were tossed wt an exceadynge tempest they lyghtened ye ship
18 No dia seguinte, sendo violentamente castigados pela tempestade, começaram a lançar fora a carga.
19 and the thyrde daye we cast out with oure awne hondes the tacklynge of the shippe.
19 No terceiro dia, lançaram fora, com as próprias mãos, a armação do navio.
20 When at the last nether sunne nor starre in many dayes appered and no small tempest laye apon vs all hope that we shuld be saved was then taken awaye.
20 Não aparecendo nem sol nem estrelas por muitos dias, e continuando a abater-se sobre nós grande tempestade, finalmente perdemos toda a esperança de salvamento.
21 Then after longe abstinence Paul stode forth in the myddes of them and sayde: Syrs ye shulde have harkened to me and not have lowsed from Candy nether to have brought vnto vs this harme and losse.
21 Visto que os homens tinham passado muito tempo sem comer, Paulo levantou-se diante deles e disse: "Os senhores deviam ter aceitado o meu conselho de não partir de Creta, pois assim teriam evitado este dano e prejuízo.
22 And nowe I exhorte you to be of good chere. For ther shalbe no losse of eny mas lyfe amonge you save of the ship only.
22 Mas agora recomendo-lhes que tenham coragem, pois nenhum de vocês perderá a vida; apenas o navio será destruído.
23 For ther stode by me this nyght the angell of God whose I am and whom I serve
23 Pois ontem à noite apareceu-me um anjo do Deus a quem pertenço e a quem adoro, dizendo-me:
24 sayinge: feare not Paul for thou must be brought before Cesar. And lo God hath geven vnto the all that sayle with ye.
24 ‘Paulo, não tenha medo. É preciso que você compareça perante César; Deus, por sua graça, deu-lhe as vidas de todos os que estão navegando com você’.
25 Wherfore Syrs be of good chere: for I beleve God that so it shalbe even as it was tolde me.
25 Assim, tenham ânimo, senhores! Creio em Deus que acontecerá do modo como me foi dito.
26 How be it we must be cast into a certayne ylonde.
26 Devemos ser arrastados para alguma ilha".
27 But when ye fourtethe nyght was come as we were caryed in Adria about mydnyght the shipmen demed that ther appered some countre vnto the:
27 Na décima quarta noite, ainda estávamos sendo levados de um lado para outro no mar Adriático, quando, por volta da meia-noite, os marinheiros imaginaram que estávamos próximos da terra.
28 and sounded and founde it .xx. feddoms. And when they had gone a lytell further they sounded agayne and founde .xv. feddoms.
28 Lançando a sonda, verificaram que a profundidade era de trinta e sete metros; pouco tempo depois, lançaram novamente a sonda e encontraram vinte e sete metros.
29 Then fearinge lest they shuld have fallen on some Rocke they cast .iiii. ancres out of the sterne and wysshed for ye daye.
29 Temendo que fôssemos jogados contra as pedras, lançaram quatro âncoras da popa e faziam preces para que amanhecesse o dia.
30 As the shipmen were about to fle out of the ship and had let doune the bote into the see vnder a coloure as though they wolde have cast ancres out of the forshippe:
30 Tentando escapar do navio, os marinheiros baixaram o barco salva-vidas ao mar, a pretexto de lançar âncoras da proa.
31 Paul sayd vnto ye vnder captayne and the soudiers: excepte these abyde in the ship ye cannot be safe.
31 Então Paulo disse ao centurião e aos soldados: "Se estes homens não ficarem no navio, vocês não poderão salvar-se".
32 Then the soudiers cut of the rope of the bote and let it fall awaye.
32 Com isso os soldados cortaram as cordas que prendiam o barco salva-vidas e o deixaram cair.
33 And in ye meane tyme betwixt that and daye Paul besought them all to take meate sayinge: this is ye fourtenthe daye that ye have taried and continued fastynge receavinge nothinge at all.
33 Pouco antes do amanhecer, Paulo insistia que todos se alimentassem, dizendo: "Hoje faz catorze dias que vocês têm estado em vigília constante, sem nada comer.
34 Wherfore I praye you to take meate: for this no dout is for youre helth: for ther shall not an heere fall fro the heed of eny of you.
34 Agora eu os aconselho a comerem algo, pois só assim poderão sobreviver. Nenhum de vocês perderá um fio de cabelo sequer".
35 And when he had thus spoke he toke breed and gave thankes to God in presence of the all and brake it and begane to eate.
35 Tendo dito isso, tomou pão e deu graças a Deus diante de todos. Então o partiu e começou a comer.
36 Then were they all of good cheare and they also toke meate.
36 Todos se reanimaram e também comeram algo.
37 We were all together in ye ship two hundred thre score and sixtene soules.
37 Estavam a bordo duzentas e setenta e seis pessoas.
38 And whe they had eate ynough they lightened ye ship and cast out the wheate into the see.
38 Depois de terem comido até ficarem satisfeitos, aliviaram o peso do navio, atirando todo o trigo ao mar.
39 Whe yt was daye they knew not ye lande but they spied a certayne haven with a banke into ye which they were mynded (yf yt were possible) to thrust in the ship.
39 Quando amanheceu não reconheceram a terra, mas viram uma enseada com uma praia, para onde decidiram conduzir o navio, se fosse possível.
40 And when they had taken vp the ancres they comytted them selves vnto the see and lowsed the rudder bondes and hoysed vp ye mayne sayle to the wynde and drue to londe.
40 Cortando as âncoras, deixaram-nas no mar, desatando ao mesmo tempo as cordas que prendiam os lemes. Então, alçando a vela da proa ao vento, dirigiram-se para a praia.
41 But they chaunsed on a place which had the see on bothe the sydes and thrust in the ship. And the foore parte stucke fast and moved not but ye hynder brake with the violence of the waves.
41 Mas o navio encalhou num banco de areia, onde tocou o fundo. A proa encravou-se e ficou imóvel, e a popa foi quebrada pela violência das ondas.
42 The soudears counsell was to kyll ye presoners lest eny of them when he had swome out shulde fle awaye.
42 Os soldados resolveram matar os presos para impedir que algum deles fugisse, jogando-se ao mar.
43 But the vndercaptayne willinge to save Paul kept the from their purpose and commaunded that they yt could swyme shulde cast the selves first in to ye see and scape to londe.
43 Mas o centurião queria poupar a vida de Paulo e os impediu de executar o plano. Então ordenou aos que sabiam nadar que se lançassem primeiro ao mar em direção à terra.
44 And the other he comaunded to goo some on bordes and some on broken peces of the ship. And so it came to passe that they came all safe to londe.
44 Os outros teriam que salvar-se em tábuas ou em pedaços do navio. Dessa forma, todos chegaram a salvo em terra.
