1 Remind your hearers to respect and obey the Powers that be, to be ready for every kind of good work, to speak ill of no one, to avoid quarrelling,
1 Lembre a todos que se sujeitem aos governantes e às autoridades, que sejam obedientes e estejam prontos para toda boa obra.
2 to be forbearing, and under all circumstances to show a gentle spirit in dealing with others, whoever they may be.
2 Que não difamem ninguém. Que sejam pacíficos, cordiais, dando provas de toda cortesia para com todos.
3 There was, you remember, a time when we ourselves were foolish, disobedient, misled, slaves to all kinds of passions and vices, living in a spirit of malice and envy, detested ourselves and hating one another.
3 Pois nós também, no passado, éramos insensatos, desobedientes, desgarrados, escravos de todo tipo de paixões e prazeres, vivendo em maldade e inveja, sendo odiados e odiando-nos uns aos outros.
4 But, when the kindness of God our Saviour and his love for man were revealed, he saved us,
4 Mas quando se manifestou a bondade de Deus, nosso Salvador, e o seu amor por todos,
5 not as the result of any righteous actions that we had done, but in fulfilment of his merciful purposes. He saved us by that Washing which was a New Birth to us, and by the renewing power of the Holy Spirit,
5 ele nos salvou, não por obras de justiça praticadas por nós, mas segundo a sua misericórdia. Ele nos salvou mediante o lavar regenerador e renovador do Espírito Santo,
6 which he poured out upon us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
6 que ele derramou sobre nós ricamente, por meio de Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador,
7 that, having been pronounced righteous through his loving-kindness, we might enter on our inheritance with the hope of Immortal Life.
7 a fim de que, justificados por graça, nos tornemos seus herdeiros, segundo a esperança da vida eterna.
8 How true that saying is! And it is on these subjects that I desire you to lay especial stress, so that those who have learned to trust in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing good. Such subjects are excellent in themselves, and of real use to mankind.
8 Fiel é esta palavra, e quero que você fale ousadamente a respeito dessas coisas, para que os que creem em Deus se empenhem na prática de boas obras. Estas coisas são excelentes e proveitosas para todas as pessoas.
9 But have nothing to do with foolish discussions, or with genealogies, or with controversy, or disputes about the Law. They are useless and futile.
9 Evite discussões tolas, genealogias, controvérsias e debates sobre a lei; porque são inúteis e sem valor.
10 If a man is causing divisions among you, after warning him once or twice, have nothing more to say to him.
10 Evite a pessoa que provoca divisões, depois de admoestá-la uma ou duas vezes,
11 You may be sure that such a man has forsaken the Truth and is in the wrong; he stands self-condemned.
11 pois você sabe que tal pessoa está pervertida, vive pecando e por si mesma está condenada.
12 As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, join me as quickly as possible at Nicopolis, for I have arranged to spend the winter there.
12 Quando eu lhe enviar Ártemas ou Tíquico, faça o possível para vir ao meu encontro em Nicópolis. Estou resolvido a passar o inverno ali.
13 Do your best to help Zenas, the Teacher of the Law, and Apollos, on their way, and see that they want for nothing.
13 Ajude, da melhor maneira possível, Zenas, o intérprete da lei, e também Apolo, para que não lhes falte nada para a viagem.
14 Let all our People learn to devote themselves to doing good, so as to meet the most pressing needs, and that their lives may not be unfruitful.
14 E, quanto aos nossos, que aprendam também a se empenhar na prática de boas obras a favor dos necessitados, para não se tornarem infrutíferos.
15 All who are with me here send you their greeting. Give my greeting to our friends in the Faith. God bless you all.
15 Todos os que estão comigo mandam saudações a você. Dê saudações àqueles que nos amam na fé. A graça esteja com todos vocês.
