Twenty: Twentieth Century New Testament (SM_TWENTY) vs NVT
1 Then Jesus speaking to the crowds and to his disciples, said:
1 Então Jesus disse às multidões e a seus discípulos:
2 “The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees now occupy the chair of Moses.
2 “Os mestres da lei e os fariseus ocuparam o lugar de intérpretes oficiais da lei de Moisés.
3 Therefore practice and lay to heart everything that they tell preach but do not practice.
3 Portanto, pratiquem tudo que eles dizem e obedeçam-lhes, mas não sigam seu exemplo, pois eles não fazem o que ensinam.
4 While they make up heavy loads and pile them on other men’s shoulder’s they decline, themselves, to lift a finger to move them.
4 Oprimem as pessoas com exigências insuportáveis e não movem um dedo sequer para aliviar seus fardos.
5 All their actions are done to attract attention. They widen their phylacteries, and increase the size of their tassels,
5 “Tudo que fazem é para se exibir. Usam nos braços filactérios mais largos que de costume e vestem mantos com franjas mais longas.
6 and like to have the place of honour at dinner, and the best seats in the Synagogues,
6 Gostam de sentar-se à cabeceira da mesa nos banquetes e de ocupar os lugares de honra nas sinagogas.
7 and to be greeted in the markets with respect, and to be called ‘Rabbi’ for everybody.
7 Gostam de receber saudações respeitosas enquanto andam pelas praças e de ser chamados de ‘Rabi’.
8 But do not allow yourselves to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Teacher, and you yourselves are all Brothers.
8 “Não deixem que pessoa alguma os chame de ‘Rabi’, pois vocês têm somente um mestre, e todos vocês são irmãos.
9 And do not call any one on the earth your ‘Father,’ for your have only one Father, the heavenly Father.
9 Não se dirijam a pessoa alguma aqui na terra como ‘Pai’, pois somente Deus no céu é seu Pai.
10 Nor must you allow yourselves to be called ‘Leaders,’ for you have only one Leader, the Christ.
10 Não deixem que pessoa alguma os chame de ‘Mestre’, pois vocês têm somente um mestre, o Cristo.
11 The man who would be the greatest among you must be your servant.
11 O mais importante entre vocês deve ser servo dos outros,
12 Whoever shall exalt himself will be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself will be exalted.
12 pois os que se exaltam serão humilhados, e os que se humilham serão exaltados.
13 But alas for you, Teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You turn the key of the Kingdom of Heaven in men’s faces. For you do not go in yourselves, nor yet allow those who try to go in to do so.
13 “Que aflição os espera, mestres da lei e fariseus! Hipócritas! Fecham a porta do reino dos céus na cara das pessoas. Vocês mesmos não entram e não permitem que os outros entrem.
14 Alas for you, Teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You destroy widow’s houses, even while pretending to make long prayers; therefore you shall receive greater condemnation.
14 “Que aflição os espera, mestres da lei e fariseus! Hipócritas! Tomam posse dos bens das viúvas de maneira desonesta e, depois, para dar a impressão de piedade, fazem longas orações em público. Por causa disso, serão duramente castigados.
15 Alas for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You scour land and sea to make a single convert, and, when he is gained, you make him twice as deserving of the Pit as you are yourselves.
15 “Que aflição os espera, mestres da lei e fariseus! Hipócritas! Atravessam terra e mar para converter alguém e depois o tornam um filho do inferno, duas vezes pior que vocês.
16 Alas for you, you blind guides! You say ‘if any answer by the Temple, his oath counts for nothing; but, if any one swears by the gold of the Temple, his oath is binding him’!
16 “Que aflição os espera, guias cegos! Vocês dizem não haver importância se alguém jura ‘pelo templo de Deus’, mas se jurar ‘pelo ouro do templo’ será obrigado a cumprir o juramento.
17 Fools that you are and blind! Which is the more important? The gold? Or the Temple which has given sacredness to the gold?
17 Tolos cegos! O que é mais importante: o ouro ou o templo, que torna o ouro sagrado?
18 You say, too, ‘If any one swears by the altar, his oath counts for nothing, but, if any one swears by the offering placed on it, his oath is binding on him’!
18 Dizem também não haver importância se alguém jura ‘pelo altar’, mas se jurar ‘pelas ofertas sobre o altar’ será obrigado a cumprir o juramento.
19 Blind indeed! Which is the more important? The offering? or the altar which gives sacredness to the offering?
19 Cegos! O que é mais importante: a oferta sobre o altar ou o altar, que torna a oferta sagrada?
20 Therefore a man, swearing by the altar, swears by it and by all that is on it,
20 Quando juram ‘pelo altar’, juram por ele e por tudo que está sobre ele.
21 and a man, swearing by the Temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it,
21 Quando juram ‘pelo templo’, juram por ele e por Deus, que nele habita.
22 while a man, swearing by Heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits upon it.
22 Quando juram ‘pelo céu’, juram pelo trono de Deus e por Deus, que se senta no trono.
23 Alas for you, Teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You pay tithes on mint, fennel, and caraway seed, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law — justice, mercy, and good faith. These last you ought to have put into practice, without neglecting the first.
23 “Que aflição os espera, mestres da lei e fariseus! Hipócritas! Têm o cuidado de dar o dízimo da hortelã, do endro e do cominho, mas negligenciam os aspectos mais importantes da lei: justiça, misericórdia e fé. Sim, vocês deviam fazer essas coisas, mas sem descuidar das mais importantes.
24 You blind guides, to strain out a gnat and to swallow a camel!
24 Guias cegos! Coam a água para não engolir um mosquito, mas engolem um camelo!
25 Alas for you, Teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are filled with the results of greed and self-indulgence.
25 “Que aflição os espera, mestres da lei e fariseus! Hipócritas! Têm o cuidado de limpar a parte exterior do copo e do prato, enquanto o interior está imundo, cheio de ganância e falta de domínio próprio.
26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the dish, so that the outside may become clean as well.
26 Fariseus cegos! Lavem primeiro o interior do copo e do prato, e o exterior também ficará limpo.
27 Alas for you, Teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed look fair outside, while inside they are filled with dead men’s bones and all kinds of filth.
27 “Que aflição os espera, mestres da lei e fariseus! Hipócritas! São como túmulos pintados de branco: bonitos por fora, mas cheios de ossos e de toda espécie de impureza por dentro.
28 It is the same with you. Outwardly, and to others, you have the look of religious men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and sin.
28 Por fora parecem justos, mas por dentro seu coração está cheio de hipocrisia e maldade.
29 Alas for you, Teachers of the Law and Pharisees, hypocrites that you are! You build the tombs of the Prophets, and decorate the monuments of religious men,
29 “Que aflição os espera, mestres da lei e fariseus! Hipócritas! Constroem túmulos para os profetas, enfeitam os monumentos dos justos
30 and say ‘Had we been living in the days of our ancestors, we should have taken part in their murder of the Prophets!
30 e depois dizem: ‘Se tivéssemos vivido no tempo de nossos antepassados, não teríamos participado com eles do derramamento de sangue dos profetas’.
31 By doing this you are furnishing evidence against yourselves that you are true children of the men who murdered the Prophets.
31 “Ao dizer isso, porém, testemunham contra si mesmos que são, de fato, descendentes dos que assassinaram os profetas.
32 Fill up the measure of your ancestor’s guilt.
32 Vão e terminem o que seus antepassados começaram.
33 You serpents and brood of vipers! How can you escape being sentenced to the Pit?
33 Serpentes! Raça de víboras! Como escaparão do julgamento do inferno?
34 That is why I send you Prophets, wise men, and Teachers of the Law, some of whom you will crucify and kill, and some of whom you will scourge in your Synagogues, and persecute from town to town;
34 “Por isso eu lhes envio profetas, homens sábios e mestres da lei. Vocês crucificarão alguns e açoitarão outros nas sinagogas, perseguindo-os de cidade em cidade.
35 in order that upon your heads may fall every drop of innocent ‘blood split on earth,’ from the blood of innocent Abel down to that of Zechariah, Barachiah’s son, whom you murdered between the Temple and the altar.
35 Como resultado, serão responsabilizados pelo assassinato de todos os justos de todos os tempos, desde o assassinato do justo Abel até o de Zacarias, filho de Baraquias, que vocês mataram no templo, entre o santuário e o altar.
36 All this, I tell you, will come home to the present generation.
36 Eu lhes digo a verdade: esse julgamento cairá sobre a presente geração.”
37 Jerusalem! Jerusalem! She who slays the Prophets and stones the messengers sent to her — Oh, how often have I wished to gather your children round me, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not come!
37 “Jerusalém, Jerusalém, cidade que mata profetas e apedreja os mensageiros de Deus! Quantas vezes eu quis juntar seus filhos como a galinha protege os pintinhos sob as asas, mas você não deixou.
38 Verily, your house is left to you desolate!
38 E, agora, sua casa foi abandonada e está deserta.
39 For nevermore, I tell you, shall you see me, until you say — ‘Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!’”
39 Pois eu lhe digo: você nunca mais me verá, até que diga: ‘Bendito é o que vem em nome do Senhor!’”.
