1 By the rivers of Babylon, there, we sat down, yea we wept—when we remembered Zion:
1 Junto aos rios de Babilônia, ali nos assentamos e nos pusemos a chorar, recordando-nos de Sião.
2 Upon the willows—in the midst thereof, hanged we our lyres:
2 Nos salgueiros que há no meio dela penduramos as nossas harpas,
3 For, there, our captors asked of us words of song, and our plunderers—gladness,—Sing us of the songs of Zion!
3 pois ali aqueles que nos levaram cativos nos pediam canções; e os que nos atormentavam, que os alegrássemos, dizendo: Cantai-nos um dos cânticos de Sião.
4 How shall we sing the song of Yahweh, on a foreign soil?
4 Mas como entoaremos o cântico do Senhor em terra estrangeira?
5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, Let my right-hand forget:
5 Se eu me esquecer de ti, ó Jerusalém, esqueça-se a minha destra da sua destreza.
6 Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember thee! if I do not lift up Jerusalem above the head of mine own gladness.
6 Apegue-se-me a língua ao céu da boca, se não me lembrar de ti, se eu não preferir Jerusalém à minha maior alegria.
7 Remember, O Yahweh, against the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem,—how they continued to say—Overthrow! Overthrow! unto the foundation within it.
7 Lembra-te, Senhor, contra os edomitas, do dia de Jerusalém, porque eles diziam: Arrasai-a, arrasai-a até os seus alicerces.
8 O ruined daughter of Babylon,—how happy the man who shall repay thee thy dealing, wherewith thou didst deal with us!
8 Ah! filha de Babilônia, devastadora; feliz aquele que te retribuir consoante nos fizeste a nós;
9 How happy the man who shall snatch away and dash thy children against the crag.
9 feliz aquele que pegar em teus pequeninos e der com eles nas pedra.
