1 And Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel, unto Shechem,—and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and they presented themselves before God.
1 E Josué reuniu todas as tribos de Israel em Siquém, e convocou os anciãos de Israel, e os seus cabeças, e os seus juízes, e os seus oficiais; e eles se apresentaram diante de Deus.
2 Then said Joshua unto all the people—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Beyond the River, dwelt your fathers from age-past times, [unto] Terah, father of Abraham, and father of Nahor,—and they served other gods.
2 E Josué disse a todo o povo: Assim diz o SENHOR, Deus de Israel: Em tempos antigos, os vossos pais habitaram no outro lado do rio, a saber, Terá, o pai de Abraão, e pai de Naor; e eles serviam a outros deuses.
3 So I took your father, Abraham, from beyond the River, and led him through all the land of Canaan,—and multiplied his seed, and gave unto him, Isaac;
3 E eu tomei o vosso pai Abraão do outro lado do rio, e o guiei através de toda a terra de Canaã, e multipliquei a sua semente, e lhe dei Isaque.
4 and gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau,—and gave unto Esau, Mount Seir, to possess it, but, Jacob and his sons, went down into Egypt.
4 E eu dei a Isaque, Jacó e Esaú, e dei a Esaú o monte Seir, para que o possuísse; porém Jacó e os seus filhos desceram ao Egito.
5 Then sent I Moses and Aaron, and plagued Egypt, according to that which I did in their midst, and, afterwards, brought you forth.
5 Eu também enviei Moisés e Arão, e afligi o Egito, segundo aquilo que fiz no meio deles; e depois vos tirei de lá.
6 Yea I brought forth your fathers, out of Egypt, and ye came unto the sea, and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers, with chariots and with horsemen, unto the Red Sea.
6 E retirei os vossos pais do Egito, e vós viestes até o mar; e os egípcios perseguiram os vossos pais com carruagens e cavaleiros até o mar Vermelho.
7 So they made outcry unto Yahweh, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought in upon them the sea, and covered them,—and your eyes beheld what I did with the Egyptians. And, when ye had remained in the desert many days,
7 E, quando eles clamaram ao SENHOR, ele colocou escuridão entre vós e os egípcios, e trouxe o mar sobre eles, e os cobriu; e os vossos olhos viram o que eu fiz no Egito; e habitastes no deserto por um longo tempo.
8 then I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who were dwelling over the Jordan, and they fought with you,—then delivered I them into your hand, and ye took possession of their land, so I destroyed them from before you.
8 E eu vos trouxe à terra dos amorreus, os quais habitavam no outro lado do Jordão; e eles lutaram convosco, e eu lhes entreguei na vossa mão, para que pudésseis possuir a terra; e eu os destruí diante de vós.
9 Then rose up Balak, son of Zippor, king of Moab, and made war with Israel,—and sent and called for Balaam son of Beor, to curse you;
9 Depois, Balaque, o filho de Zipor, rei de Moabe, levantou-se e guerreou contra Israel, e mandou chamar a Balaão, o filho de Beor, para vos amaldiçoar;
10 but I was not willing to hearken unto Balaam,—so, he kept on blessing, you, and I rescued you out of his hand.
10 porém eu não atentei a Balaão; portanto, ele ainda vos abençoou; assim, eu vos livrei da sua mão.
11 Then passed ye over the Jordan, and came in unto Jericho, and, when they would have made war with you—even the lords of Jericho—the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, then delivered I them into your hand.
11 E vós atravessastes o Jordão, e chegastes a Jericó, e os homens de Jericó lutaram contra vós: os amorreus, e os ferezeus, e os cananeus, e os heteus, e os girgaseus, os heveus, e os jebuseus; e eu os entreguei na vossa mão.
12 And I sent before you the hornet, which drave them out from before you, the two kings of the Amorites,—not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
12 E eu enviei o vespão diante de vós, o qual os expulsaram de diante de vós, a saber, os dois reis dos amorreus; mas não com a tua espada, tampouco com o teu arco.
13 Thus I gave unto you a land on which thou hadst not laboured, and cities which ye had not built, and ye proceeded to dwell therein,—of vineyards and oliveyards, which ye planted not, ye are eating.
13 E eu vos dei uma terra pela qual vós não trabalhastes, e cidades que não edificastes, e nelas habitastes; dos vinhedos e olivais que não plantastes, vós comeis.
14 Now, therefore, revere ye Yahweh, and serve him, in sincerity and in truth,—and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Yahweh.
14 Agora, portanto, temei ao SENHOR, e o servi com sinceridade e em verdade, ponde de lado os deuses que os vossos pais serviram no outro lado do rio, e no Egito; e servi ao SENHOR.
15 But, if it be, a vexation, in your eyes, to serve Yahweh, choose ye for yourselves, to-day, whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served, that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye are dwelling,—but, I and my house, will serve Yahweh.
15 E se vos parecer mal servir ao SENHOR, escolhei neste dia a quem servireis: se aos deuses que os vossos pais serviram, os quais estavam do outro lado do rio, ou aos deuses dos amorreus, em cuja terra habitais; porém, quanto a mim e a minha casa, nós serviremos ao SENHOR.
16 Then responded the people, and said, Far be it from us, that we should forsake Yahweh,—to serve other gods;
16 E o povo respondeu e disse: Deus nos proíba de abandonarmos o SENHOR para servir a outros deuses;
17 for, as for Yahweh our God, he, brought up both us and our fathers, out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants,—and who did before our eyes, these great signs, and preserved us throughout all the way wherein we journeyed, and among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed;
17 pois o SENHOR, nosso Deus, é quem trouxe a nós e a nossos pais da terra do Egito, da casa do cativeiro, e quem fez aqueles grandes sinais à nossa vista, e nos preservou em todo o caminho pelo qual andamos, e no meio de todos os povos pelos quais passamos;
18 then did Yahweh drive out all the peoples, even the Amorites were dwelling in the land, from before us,—we too, will serve Yahweh, for, he, is our God.
18 e o SENHOR expulsou de diante de nós todos os povos, até mesmo os amorreus que habitavam na terra; por isso também serviremos ao SENHOR; pois ele é o nosso Deus.
19 Then said Joshua unto the people—Ye cannot serve Yahweh, for, a holy God, he is, a jealous GOD, he is, he will not forgive your transgression, nor your sins.
19 E Josué disse ao povo: Vós não podeis servir ao SENHOR, posto que é um Deus santo; ele é um Deus ciumento; ele não perdoará as vossas transgressões, tampouco os vossos pecados.
20 When ye forsake Yahweh, and serve the gods of a stranger, then will he turn, and inflict on you calamity, and consume you, after that he hath dealt well with you.
20 Se abandonardes o SENHOR, e servirdes a deuses estranhos, então ele se virará e vos ferirá, e vos consumirá, depois daquilo que tem vos feito de bom.
21 But the people said unto Joshua,—Nay! but, Yahweh, will we serve.
21 E o povo disse a Josué: Não; mas serviremos ao SENHOR.
22 Then said Joshua unto the people—Witnesses, are ye, against yourselves, that, ye yourselves, have chosen you Yahweh, to serve him. And they said: Witnesses!
22 E Josué disse ao povo: Vós sois testemunhas contra vós mesmos de que escolhestes o SENHOR, para servi-lo. E eles disseram: Nós somos testemunhas.
23 Now, therefore, put ye away the gods of the stranger, that are in your midst,—and incline your heart unto Yahweh, God of Israel.
23 Agora, portanto, colocai de lado, disse ele, os deuses estranhos que estão no meio de vós, e inclinai o vosso coração ao SENHOR Deus de Israel.
24 And the people said unto Joshua,—Yahweh our God, will we serve, and, unto his voice, will we hearken.
24 E o povo disse a Josué: Ao SENHOR, nosso Deus, serviremos, e a sua voz obedeceremos.
25 So then Joshua solemnised a covenant for the people, on that day,—and set for them a statute and a regulation, in Shechem.
25 Assim, Josué fez um pacto com o povo naquele dia, e lhes estabeleceu um estatuto e uma ordenança em Siquém.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the scroll of the law of God,—and took a great stone, and set it up there, under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Yahweh.
26 E Josué escreveu estas palavras no livro da lei de Deus, e tomou uma grande pedra, e a ergueu ali debaixo de um carvalho que estava junto ao santuário do SENHOR.
27 And Joshua said unto all the people—Lo! this stone, shall serve against us as a witness, for, it, hath heard all the sayings of Yahweh, which he hath spoken with us,—so shall it serve against you as a witness, lest ye should act deceptively against your God.
27 E Josué disse a todo o povo: Eis que esta pedra será uma testemunha para nós, pois ela ouviu todas as palavras do SENHOR, as quais ele nos falou; portanto ela será uma testemunha para vós, para que não negueis o vosso Deus.
28 And Joshua sent the people away, every man unto his inheritance.
28 Então, Josué deixou o povo partir, cada homem para a sua herança.
29 And it came to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, died, being a hundred and ten years old.
29 E, sucedeu que, depois destas coisas, faleceu Josué, o filho de Num, o servo do SENHOR, tendo cento e dez anos de idade.
30 And they buried him within the bounds of his own inheritance, in Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gaash.
30 E o sepultaram no limite da sua herança em Timnate-Sera, que está no monte Efraim, no lado norte do outeiro de Gaás.
31 So then Israel served Yahweh all the days of Joshua,—and all the days of the elders who prolonged their days after Joshua, and who had known all the work of Yahweh, which he had wrought for Israel.
31 E Israel serviu ao SENHOR todos os dias de Josué, e todos os dias dos anciãos que viveram além de Josué, e que haviam conhecido todas as obras do SENHOR, as quais ele tinha feito por Israel.
32 And, the bones of Joseph—which the sons of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in the portion of field, which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor, father of Shechem, for a hundred pieces of money,—and they belonged unto the sons of Joseph, as an inheritance.
32 E os ossos de José, os quais os filhos de Israel trouxeram do Egito, eles sepultaram em Siquém, em um pedaço de terra que Jacó adquiriu dos filhos de Hamor, o pai de Siquém, por cem peças de prata; e ele se tornou herança dos filhos de José.
33 And, Eleazar son of Aaron, died,—and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him, in the hill country of Ephraim.
33 E faleceu Eleazar, o filho de Arão; e o sepultaram em um outeiro que pertencia a Fineias, o seu filho, o qual lhe foi dado no monte Efraim.
