1 Alas! for the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, And for his fading wreath of majestic beauty,—Which is on the head of the fertile valley, of them who are overcome with wine.
1 Que aflição espera a orgulhosa cidade de Samaria, a coroa gloriosa dos bêbados de Israel! Fica na parte alta de um vale fértil, mas sua beleza gloriosa murchará como uma flor. Ela é o orgulho de um povo que o vinho derrubou.
2 Lo! My Lord hath one who is, strong and bold, Like a storm of hail, a destroying tempest, Like a storm of mighty waters overflowing, Hath he thrust it down to the earth with force:
2 O Senhor enviará um exército poderoso contra ela; como forte tempestade de granizo, chuva torrencial, ou violenta inundação, eles irromperão contra ela e a derrubarão por terra.
3 With the feet shall be trodden down, the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim,
3 A orgulhosa cidade de Samaria, a coroa gloriosa dos bêbados de Israel, será pisoteada pelos inimigos.
4 So shall his fading wreath of majestic beauty, Which is on the head of the fertile valley, become—Like the first-ripe fig before fruit-harvest, Which when he that looketh upon it seeth while it is yet in his hand, he swalloweth it up.
4 Fica na parte alta de um vale fértil, mas sua beleza gloriosa murchará como uma flor. Quem a vir a apanhará, como o figo temporão que alguém apanha e come.
5 In that day, will Yahweh of hosts become A crown of beauty, and A diadem of majesty,—Unto the remnant of his people:
5 Naquele dia, o próprio S enhor dos Exércitos será a coroa gloriosa de Israel. Será o orgulho e a alegria do remanescente de seu povo.
6 Even a spirit of justice—to him that presideth over justice, And strength to them who would turn back the battle at the gate.
6 Dará a seus juízes anseio pela justiça e coragem aos guerreiros que defendem seus portões.
7 But as for these, With wine, do they reel, and With strong drink, do they stagger,—Priest and prophet, reel with strong drink They are swallowed up through wine They stagger through strong drink, They reel in prophetic vision, They totter in pronouncing judgment.
7 Agora, porém, Israel é conduzida por bêbados, que vacilam por causa do vinho e cambaleiam por causa do álcool. Os sacerdotes e os profetas cambaleiam por causa da bebida forte e ficam tontos por causa do vinho. Vacilam quando têm visões e cambaleiam quando pronunciam suas decisões.
8 For, all tables, are full of filthy vomit,—There is no place!
8 Suas mesas estão cobertas de vômito; há sujeira por toda parte.
9 Whom, would he teach knowledge? And, whom, would he cause to understand the message? Them who are weaned from the milk? taken from the breasts?
9 Perguntam: “Quem o S enhor pensa que somos? Por que fala conosco dessa maneira? Acaso somos crianças pequenas, recém-desmamadas?
10 For it is—Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line,—A little here a little there.
10 Ele nos diz as mesmas coisas repetidamente, uma linha de cada vez, uma linha mais uma vez, um pouco aqui, um pouco ali!”.
11 For, with a jabbering lip, and with an alien tongue, must he speak unto this people!
11 Agora o S enhor terá de falar a seu povo por meio de opressores estrangeiros de língua estranha.
12 To whom he said—This, is the rest—give ye rest to the weary, and This, is the quietness,—But they were unwilling to hear.
12 Ele disse a seu povo: “Este é o lugar de descanso; que os exaustos repousem aqui. Este é o lugar de conforto”, mas eles não quiseram ouvir.
13 So the word of Yahweh must be to them—Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, A little here, a little there,—That they may go and fall backward and be torn and snared and captured.
13 Por isso, mais uma vez, o S uma linha de cada vez, uma linha mais uma vez, um pouco aqui, um pouco ali, para que tropecem e caiam; serão feridos, pegos em armadilhas e capturados.
14 Wherefore, hear ye the word of Yahweh, Ye men who scoff,—Ye rulers of this people that is in Jerusalem.
14 Portanto, ouçam esta mensagem do S enhor , vocês, governantes zombadores em Jerusalém.
15 Because ye have said—We have solemnised a covenant with death, And with hades, have we effected a vision,—The overflowing scourge when it sweepeth by, shall not reach unto us, For we have made lying our refuge. And in falsehood, have we hid ourselves,
15 Dizem: “Fizemos um acordo para enganar a morte, uma negociação para evitar a sepultura. A destruição que se aproxima jamais nos tocará, pois construímos um forte refúgio feito de mentiras e engano”.
16 Therefore, Thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, Behold me! founding in Zion a stone, A stone of testing, The costly corner of a well-laid foundation, he that trusteth, shall not make haste!
16 Por isso, assim diz o S enhor Soberano: “Vejam, ponho em Sião uma pedra angular, uma pedra firme e testada! É uma pedra angular preciosa, sobre a qual se pode construir com segurança; quem crer jamais será abalado.
17 But I will make—Justice the line, and Righteousness the plummet,—And the hail shall, sweep away, your refuge of lying, And your hiding-place, the waters shall overflow;
17 Provarei vocês com a corda de medir da justiça e com o prumo da retidão. Porque seu refúgio é feito de mentiras, uma tempestade de granizo o derrubará. Porque é feito de engano, uma inundação o arrastará.
18 So shall be wiped out your covenant with death, And your vision with hades, not stand,—When the overflowing scourge, sweepeth past, then shall ye be thereby beaten down:
18 Cancelarei o acordo que fizeram para enganar a morte, acabarei com sua negociação para evitar a sepultura. Quando o terrível inimigo chegar, vocês serão pisoteados.
19 As often as it sweepeth past, it shall take you away, For morning by morning, shall it pass along. By day and by night,—And it shall be nothing less than a terror to make out the message;
19 A inundação virá repetidamente, a cada manhã, dia e noite, até que sejam levados embora”. Essa mensagem deixará seu povo aterrorizado.
20 For too short is the couch to stretch oneself out,—And, the coverlet, too narrow, when one draweth up his feet.
20 A cama que vocês fizeram é curta demais para se deitarem, os cobertores são muito estreitos para se cobrirem.
21 For as in Mount Perazim, will Yahweh, arise, As in the vale of Gibeon, will he be stirred,—To do his work—foreign is his work, And to perform his task—strange is his task.
21 O S enhor virá, como fez contra os filisteus no monte Perazim e contra os amorreus em Gibeão. Virá para fazer algo estranho, para realizar um ato incomum.
22 Now, therefore do not show yourselves scoffers, Lest your fetters, be bound fast,—For, of a full end, and that a decreed one, have I heard from My Lord, Yahweh of hosts upon all the land
22 Pois o Soberano S enhor dos Exércitos disse claramente que está decidido a destruir toda a terra. Portanto, deixem de zombar, ou seu castigo será ainda maior.
23 Give ear, and hear ye my voice,—Hearken, and hear ye my speech:—
23 Ouçam o que vou dizer; escutem e prestem muita atenção.
24 All day long, doth the plowman plow for sowing? Doth he continue laying open and harrowing his soil?
24 Acaso o agricultor vive arando a terra, mas nunca semeia? Vive preparando o solo, mas nunca planta?
25 Doth he not when he hath levelled the face thereof, Cast abroad the fennel? And, the cummin, doth he not scatter? And plant wheat in rows, And barley in a lot, And spelt in the border thereof?
25 Por fim, não lança as sementes de endro, cominho, trigo, cevada e trigo candeal, cada uma de maneira apropriada, cada uma em seu devido lugar?
26 Yea One hath trained him to good judgment, His God, directeth him.
26 O agricultor sabe exatamente o que fazer, pois Deus lhe deu entendimento.
27 For not with a sledge, must, black coriander be threshed, Nor must, the wheel of a cart, on cummin, be turned, But with a staff, must fennel be beaten, And cummin with a rod:
27 Não se debulha o endro com uma marreta; ele é malhado com uma vara. Não se passa uma roda de trilhar sobre o cominho; ele é batido de leve com uma ripa.
28 Bread-corn, must be crushed,—Yet would he not be evermore, threshing, it, So he hasteneth over it the wheel of his cart, with his horsemen, He crusheth it not!
28 É fácil moer o cereal para o pão, portanto ele não o soca demais. Ele o debulha sob as rodas de uma carroça, mas não o tritura até virar pó.
29 Even this, from Yahweh of hosts, cometh forth,—Who hath bestowed distinction upon counsel, And magnified sound wisdom.
29 O S enhor dos Exércitos é excelente mestre e dá grande sabedoria ao agricultor.
