1 Fourteen years afterwards I went up to Jerusalem again with Barnabas, and I took Titus also with me.
1 Depois, passados catorze anos, subi outra vez a Jerusalém com Barnabé, levando também comigo a Tito.
2 It was in obedience to a revelation that I went; and I laid before the apostles the good news that I am proclaiming among the Gentiles. I did this privately before those who are thought highly of because I was afraid that I might possibly be taking, or might have already taken, a course which would prove useless.
2 E subi devido a uma revelação, e lhes expus o evangelho que prego entre os gentios, mas em particular aos que eram de destaque, para que de algum modo não estivesse correndo ou não tivesse corrido em vão.
3 Yet even my companion, Titus, though a Greek, was not compelled to be circumcised.
3 Mas nem mesmo Tito, que estava comigo, embora sendo grego, foi constrangido a circuncidar-se;
4 But, because of those who pretended to be followers who had stolen in, the intruders who had crept in to spy on the liberty which we have through union with Christ Jesus, in order to bring us back to slavery —
4 e isto por causa dos falsos irmãos intrusos, os quais furtivamente entraram a espiar a nossa liberdade, que temos em Cristo Jesus, para nos escravizar;
5 Why, we did not for a moment yield submission to them, so that the truth of the good news might be yours always!
5 aos quais nem ainda por uma hora cedemos em sujeição, para que a verdade do evangelho permanecesse entre vós.
6 Of those who are thought somewhat highly of — what they once were makes no difference to me; God does not recognize human distinctions — those, I say, who are thought highly of added nothing to my message.
6 Ora, daqueles que pareciam ser alguma coisa {quais outrora tenham sido, nada me importa; Deus não aceita a aparência do homem}, esses, digo, que pareciam ser alguma coisa, nada me acrescentaram;
7 On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted with the good news for the Gentiles, just as Peter had been for the Jews.
7 antes, pelo contrário, quando viram que o evangelho da incircuncisão me fora confiado, como a Pedro o da circuncisão
8 For he who gave Peter power for his mission to the Jews gave me, also, power to go to the Gentiles.
8 {porque aquele que operou a favor de Pedro para o apostolado da circuncisão, operou também a meu favor para com os gentios},
9 Recognizing the charge entrusted to me, James, Peter, and John, who were regarded as pillars of the church, openly acknowledged Barnabas and me as fellow workers, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.
9 e quando conheceram a graça que me fora dada, Tiago, Cefas e João, que pareciam ser as colunas, deram a mim e a Barnabé as destras de comunhão, para que nós fôssemos aos gentios, e eles à circuncisão;
10 Only we were to remember the poor — the thing I was myself anxious to do.
10 recomendando-nos somente que nos lembrássemos dos pobres; o que também procurei fazer com diligência.
11 But, when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face; for he stood self-condemned.
11 Quando, porém, Cefas veio a Antioquia, resisti-lhe na cara, porque era repreensível.
12 Before certain persons came from James, he had been in the habit of eating with the Gentile converts; but, when they came, he began to withdraw and hold aloof, because he was afraid of offending those who still held to circumcision.
12 Pois antes de chegarem alguns da parte de Tiago, ele comia com os gentios; mas quando eles chegaram, se foi retirando e se apartava deles, temendo os que eram da circuncisão.
13 The rest of the Jewish converts were guilty of the same hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led away by it.
13 E os outros judeus também dissimularam com ele, de modo que até Barnabé se deixou levar pela sua dissimulação.
14 But, when I saw that they were not dealing straightforwardly with the truth of the good news, I said to Peter, before them all, “If you, who were born a Jew, adopt Gentile customs, instead of Jewish, why are you trying to compel the Gentile converts to adopt Jewish customs?”
14 Mas, quando vi que não andavam retamente conforme a verdade do evangelho, disse a Cefas perante todos: Se tu, sendo judeu, vives como os gentios, e não como os judeus, como é que obrigas os gentios a viverem como judeus?
15 We, though we are Jews by birth and not outcasts of Gentile origin, know that no one is pronounced righteous as the result of obedience to law, but only through faith in Christ Jesus.
15 Nós, judeus por natureza e não pecadores dentre os gentios,
16 So we placed our faith in Christ Jesus, in order that we might be pronounced righteous, as the result of faith in Christ, and not of obedience to law; for such obedience ‘will not result in even one soul’s being pronounced righteous.’
16 sabendo, contudo, que o homem não é justificado por obras da lei, mas sim, pela fé em Cristo Jesus, temos também crido em Cristo Jesus para sermos justificados pela fé em Cristo, e não por obras da lei; pois por obras da lei nenhuma carne será justificada.
17 If, while seeking to be pronounced righteous through union with Christ, we were ourselves seen to be outcasts, would that make Christ an agent of sin? Heaven forbid!
17 Mas se, procurando ser justificados em Cristo, fomos nós mesmos também achados pecadores, é porventura Cristo ministro do pecado? De modo nenhum.
18 For, if I rebuild the things that I pulled down, I prove myself to have done wrong.
18 Porque, se torno a edificar aquilo que destruí, constituo-me a mim mesmo transgressor.
19 I, indeed, through law became dead to law, in order to live for God.
19 Pois eu pela lei morri para a lei, a fim de viver para Deus.
20 I have been crucified with Christ. So it is no longer I that live, but it is Christ who lives in me; and, as for my present earthly life, I am living it by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
20 Já estou crucificado com Cristo; e vivo, não mais eu, mas Cristo vive em mim; e a vida que agora vivo na carne, vivo-a na fé no filho de Deus, o qual me amou, e se entregou a si mesmo por mim.
21 I do not reject the love of God. If righteousness comes through law, then there was no need for Christ to die!
21 Não faço nula a graça de Deus; porque, se a justiça vem mediante a lei, logo Cristo morreu em vão.
