1 I want you to know in how great a struggle I am engaged for you and for Christ’s people at Laodicea, and for all who have not yet seen me;
1 Pois quero que saibam o quanto eu tenho trabalhado por vocês, e pelos que moram em Laodiceia , e por muitos outros que não me conhecem pessoalmente.
2 in the hope that they, being bound to one another by love, and keeping in view the full blessedness of a firm conviction, may be encouraged to strive for a perfect knowledge of God’s hidden truth,
2 Eu trabalho para que o coração deles se encha de coragem e eles sejam unidos em amor e assim fiquem completamente enriquecidos com a segurança que é dada pela verdadeira compreensão do segredo de Deus. Esse segredo é Cristo,
3 even Christ himself, in whom all treasures of wisdom and knowledge lie hidden.
3 o qual é a chave que abre todos os tesouros escondidos do conhecimento e da sabedoria que vêm de Deus.
4 I say this to prevent anyone from deceiving you by plausible arguments.
4 Eu digo isso a vocês para que não deixem que ninguém os engane com explicações falsas, mesmo que pareçam muito boas.
5 It is true that I am not with you in person, but I am with you in spirit, and am glad to see the good order and the unbroken front resulting from your faith in Christ.
5 Porque, embora no corpo eu esteja longe, em espírito eu estou com vocês. E fico alegre em saber que vocês estão unidos e firmes na fé em Cristo.
6 Since, therefore, you have received Jesus, the Christ, as your Lord, live your lives in union with him —
6 Portanto, já que vocês aceitaram Cristo Jesus como Senhor, vivam unidos com ele.
7 rooted in him, building up your characters through union with him, growing stronger through your faith, as you were taught, overflowing with faith and thanksgiving.
7 Estejam enraizados nele, construam a sua vida sobre ele e se tornem mais fortes na fé, como foi ensinado a vocês. E deem sempre graças a Deus.
8 Take care there is not some one who will carry you away by his ‘philosophy’ — a hollow sham! — following, as it does, mere human traditions, and dealing with puerile questions of this world, and not with Christ.
8 Tenham cuidado para que ninguém os torne escravos por meio de argumentos sem valor, que vêm da sabedoria humana. Essas coisas vêm dos ensinamentos de criaturas humanas e dos espíritos que dominam o Universo e não de Cristo.
9 For in Christ the Godhead in all its fulness dwells incarnate;
9 Pois em Cristo, como ser humano, está presente toda a natureza de Deus,
10 and, by your union with him, you also are filled with it. He is the head of all archangels and powers of heaven.
10 e, por estarem unidos com Cristo, vocês também têm essa natureza. Ele domina todos os poderes e autoridades espirituais .
11 By your union with him you received a circumcision that was not performed by human hands, when you threw off the tyranny of the earthly body, and received the circumcision of the Christ.
11 Por estarem unidos com Cristo, vocês foram circuncidados não com a circuncisão que é feita no corpo, mas com a circuncisão feita por Cristo, pela qual somos libertados do poder da natureza pecadora.
12 For in baptism you were buried with Christ; and in baptism you were also raised to life with him, through your faith in the omnipotence of God, who raised him from the dead.
12 Pois, quando vocês foram batizados, foram sepultados com Cristo; e no batismo também foram ressuscitados com ele por meio da fé que vocês têm no grande poder de Deus, o mesmo Deus que ressuscitou Cristo.
13 And to you, who once were ‘dead,’ by reason of your sins and your uncircumcised nature — to you God gave life in giving life to Christ! He pardoned all our sins!
13 Antigamente vocês estavam espiritualmente mortos por causa dos seus pecados e porque eram não judeus e não tinham a lei . Mas agora Deus os ressuscitou junto com Cristo. Deus perdoou todos os nossos pecados
14 He canceled the bond which stood against us — the bond that consisted of ordinances — and which was directly hostile to us! He has taken it out of our way by nailing it to the cross!
14 e anulou a conta da nossa dívida, com os seus regulamentos que nós éramos obrigados a obedecer. Ele acabou com essa conta, pregando-a na cruz.
15 He rid himself of all the powers of evil, and held them up to open contempt, when he celebrated his triumph over them on the cross!
15 E foi na cruz que Cristo se livrou do poder dos governos e das autoridades espirituais . Ele humilhou esses poderes publicamente, levando-os prisioneiros no seu desfile de vitória .
16 Do not, then, allow anyone to take you to task on questions of eating or drinking, or in the matter of annual or monthly or weekly festivals.
16 Portanto, que ninguém faça para vocês leis sobre o que devem comer ou beber, ou sobre os dias santos, e a Festa da Lua Nova , e o sábado.
17 These things are only the shadow of what is to come; the substance is in the Christ.
17 Tudo isso é apenas uma sombra daquilo que virá; a realidade é Cristo.
18 Do not let anyone defraud you of the reality by affecting delight in so-called ‘humility’ and angel-worship. Such a person busies themselves with their visions, and without reason are rendered conceited by their merely human intellect.
18 Não deixem que ninguém os humilhe, afirmando que é melhor do que vocês porque diz ter visões e insiste numa falsa humildade e na adoração de anjos. Essas pessoas não têm nenhum motivo para estarem cheias de si, pois estão pensando como qualquer outra criatura humana pensa.
19 They fail to maintain union with the head, to whom it is due that the whole body, nourished and knit together by the contact and connexion of every part, grows with a divine growth.
19 Elas não estão ligadas a Cristo, que é a cabeça. Cristo controla o corpo todo, o alimenta e mantém unido por meio das juntas e ligamentos, e assim o corpo cresce como Deus quer que cresça.
20 Since, with Christ, you became dead to the puerile teaching of this world, why do you submit, as as if you still belonged to the world,
20 Vocês morreram com Cristo e por isso estão livres dos espíritos maus que dominam o Universo . Então, por que é que vocês estão vivendo como se fossem deste mundo? Não obedeçam mais a regras como estas:
21 to such ordinances as ‘Do not handle, or taste, or touch’?
21 “Não toque nesta coisa”, “não prove aquela”, “não pegue naquela”.
22 For all the things referred to in them cease to exist when used. You are following mere human directions and instructions.
22 Todas essas proibições têm a ver com coisas que se tornam inúteis depois de usadas. São apenas regras e ensinamentos que as pessoas inventam.
23 Such prohibitions appear reasonable where there is a desire for self-imposed service, and so-called ‘humility,’ and harsh treatment of the body, but are of no real value against the indulgence of our earthly nature.
23 De fato, essas regras parecem ser sábias, ao exigirem a adoração forçada dos anjos, a falsa humildade e um modo duro de tratar o corpo. Mas tudo isso não tem nenhum valor para controlar as paixões que levam à imoralidade.
