1 He who is selfish seeks a craving; against all sound judgment he shows contempt.
1 Quem se isola procura sua própria vontade e se irrita contra tudo o que é razoável.
2 A fool will not take pleasure in understanding, but in expressing his heart.
2 O insensato não tem propensão para a inteligência, mas para a expansão dos próprios sentimentos.
3 With the coming of wickedness comes contempt also, and with dishonor, disgrace.
3 O desprezo ombreia com a iniqüidade; o opróbrio com a vergonha.
4 Deep waters are words of the mouth of a man; a gushing stream is a fountain of wisdom.
4 As palavras da boca de um homem são águas profundas; a fonte da sabedoria é uma torrente transbordante.
5 Being partial to faces of evil is not good, nor to subvert the righteous at the judgment.
5 Não fica bem favorecer um perverso para prejudicar o direito do justo.
6 The lips of a fool will bring strife, and his mouth calls out for a flogging.
6 Os lábios do insensato promovem contendas: sua boca atrai açoites.
7 The mouth of a fool is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
7 A boca do tolo é a sua ruína; seus lábios são uma armadilha para a sua própria vida.
8 The words of a whisper are like delicious morsels, and they themselves go down to inner parts of the body.
8 As palavras do delator são como gulodices: penetram até as entranhas.
9 Even he who is slack in his work, he is brother to a master of destruction.
9 O frouxo no trabalho é um irmão do dissipador.
10 A tower of strength is the name of Yahweh; into him the righteous will run and be safe.
10 O nome do Senhor é uma torre: para lá corre o justo a fim de procurar segurança.
11 The wealth of the rich is ⌞his strong city⌟, and like a wall, it is high in his imagination.
11 A fortuna do rico é sua cidade forte; em seu pensar, ela é como uma muralha elevada.
12 In the presence of destruction, the heart of a man will be haughty, but in the presence of honor, humble.
12 Antes da ruína, o coração do homem se eleva, mas a humildade precede a glória.
13 He who returns a word before he will hear, folly itself belongs to him as well as shame.
13 Quem responde antes de ouvir, passa por tolo e se cobre de confusão.
14 The spirit of a man will endure his sickness, but a broken spirit, who may bear it?
14 O espírito do homem suporta a doença, mas quem erguerá um espírito abatido?
15 An intelligent ⌞mind⌟ will acquire knowledge, and the ear of the wise will seek knowledge.
15 O coração inteligente adquire o saber; o ouvido dos sábios procura a ciência.
16 The gift of a person will open doors for him, and before the great, it gives him access.
16 O presente de um homem lhe abre tudo, e lhe dá acesso junto aos grandes.
17 The first in his dispute is deemed righteous, but his neighbor will come and examine him.
17 Quem advoga sua causa, por primeiro, parece ter razão; sobrevém a parte adversa, que examina a fundo.
18 The lot will put an end to disputes, and between powerful contenders it will decide.
18 A sorte apazigua as contendas e decide entre os poderosos.
19 A brother who is offended is worse than a city of strength, and quarrels are like the bars of a fortification.
19 Um irmão ofendido é pior que uma cidade forte; as questões entre irmãos são como os ferrolhos de uma cidadela.
20 From the fruit of a man’s mouth, his stomach will be satisfied, as for the yield of his lips, it will satisfy.
20 É do fruto de sua boca que um homem se nutre; com o produto de seus lábios ele se farta.
21 Death and life are in the ⌞power⌟ of the tongue, and those who love her will eat of her fruit.
21 Morte e vida estão à mercê da língua: os que a amam comerão dos seus frutos.
22 He who finds a wife finds good, and he will obtain favor from Yahweh.
22 Aquele que acha uma mulher, acha a felicidade: é um dom recebido do Senhor.
23 The poor may speak entreaties, but the rich will answer roughly.
23 O pobre fala suplicando; a resposta do rico é ríspida.
24 A man of many friends will come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
24 O homem cercado de muitos amigos tem neles sua desgraça, mas existe um amigo mais unido que um irmão.
