1 NOW before the feast of the passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour was come, that he should go out of this world to the Father, having loved his peculiar people that are in the world, he loved them to the end.
1 Faltava somente um dia para a Festa da Páscoa . Jesus sabia que tinha chegado a hora de deixar este mundo e ir para o Pai. Ele sempre havia amado os seus que estavam neste mundo e os amou até o fim.
2 And supper being served, (the devil having now injected into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, that he should betray him;)
2 Jesus e os seus discípulos estavam jantando. O Diabo já havia posto na cabeça de Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes, a ideia de trair Jesus.
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came out from God, and was going to God;
3 Jesus sabia que o Pai lhe tinha dado todo o poder. E sabia também que tinha vindo de Deus e ia para Deus.
4 he rises from supper, and lays aside his garments, and taking a towel, he wound it about himself.
4 Então se levantou, tirou a sua capa , pegou uma toalha e amarrou na cintura.
5 Then he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was begirt.
5 Em seguida pôs água numa bacia e começou a lavar os pés dos discípulos e a enxugá-los com a toalha.
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and he saith to him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
6 Quando chegou perto de Simão Pedro, este lhe perguntou: — Vai lavar os meus pés, Senhor?
7 Jesus answered and said to him, What I am doing thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
7 Jesus respondeu:
8 Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet: no, never. Jesus answered him, Except I wash thee, thou hast no part with me.
8 — O senhor nunca lavará os meus pés! — disse Pedro.
9 Simon Peter saith to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
9 — Então, Senhor, não lave somente os meus pés; lave também as minhas mãos e a minha cabeça! — pediu Simão Pedro.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed hath need only to wash his feet, for he is entirely clean: and ye are clean, but not all.
10 Aí Jesus disse:
11 (For he knew who would betray him; therefore he said, Ye are not all clean.)
11 Jesus sabia quem era o traidor. Foi por isso que disse: “Todos menos um.”
12 When therefore he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done unto you?
12 Depois de lavar os pés dos seus discípulos, Jesus vestiu de novo a capa, sentou-se outra vez à mesa e perguntou:
13 Ye call me Master, and Lord: and ye speak truly; for such I am.
13 Vocês me chamam de “Mestre” e de “Senhor” e têm razão, pois eu sou mesmo.
14 If therefore I have washed your feet, though the Lord and the Master; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
14 Se eu, o Senhor e o Mestre, lavei os pés de vocês, então vocês devem lavar os pés uns dos outros.
15 For I have given you an example, that just as I have done to you, ye should do also.
15 Pois eu dei o exemplo para que vocês façam o que eu fiz.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his master; nor the messenger greater than him that sent him.
16 Eu afirmo a vocês que isto é verdade: o empregado não é mais importante do que o patrão, e o mensageiro não é mais importante do que aquele que o enviou.
17 If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye practise them.
17 Já que vocês conhecem esta verdade, serão felizes se a praticarem.
18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me, hath lift up his heel against me.
18 — Não estou falando de vocês todos; eu conheço aqueles que escolhi. Pois tem de se cumprir o que as
19 Now I tell you previously, before this comes to pass, that, when it cometh to pass, ye may believe that I am.
19 Digo isso a vocês agora, antes que aconteça, para que, quando acontecer, vocês creiam que “
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I shall send, receiveth me; and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.
20 Eu afirmo a vocês que isto é verdade: quem receber aquele que eu enviar estará também me recebendo; e quem me recebe recebe aquele que me enviou.
21 As Jesus was speaking these words, he was greatly agitated in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
21 Depois de dizer isso, Jesus ficou muito aflito e declarou abertamente aos discípulos:
22 Then the disciples looked one at another, doubting of whom he spake.
22 Então eles olharam uns para os outros, sem saber de quem ele estava falando.
23 Now there was one of the disciples reclining on the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus loved.
23 Ao lado de Jesus estava sentado um deles, a quem Jesus amava.
24 Therefore Simon Peter gave him a significant look, that he should inquire of Jesus, which of them it should be of whom he spake.
24 Simão Pedro fez um sinal para ele e disse: — Pergunte de quem o Mestre está falando.
25 And he leaning on the breast of Jesus, said to him, Lord, which is it?
25 Então aquele discípulo chegou mais perto de Jesus e perguntou: — Senhor, quem é ele?
26 Jesus answered, It is he to whom I shall give this morsel of bread, when I have dipped it. And dipping the morsel of bread, he gave it unto Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
26 — É aquele a quem vou dar um pedaço de pão passado no molho! — respondeu Jesus. Em seguida pegou um pedaço de pão, passou no molho e deu a Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes.
27 And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus saith to him, What thou doest, do quickly.
27 E assim que Judas recebeu o pão, Satanás entrou nele. Então Jesus disse a Judas:
28 Now none of those who sat at table knew wherefore he had spoken to him.
28 Nenhum dos que estavam à mesa entendeu por que Jesus disse isso.
29 For some supposed, as Judas kept the purse, that Jesus was saying to him, Buy what we need for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
29 Como era Judas que tomava conta da bolsa do dinheiro, alguns pensaram que Jesus tinha mandado que ele comprasse alguma coisa para a festa ou desse alguma ajuda aos pobres.
30 Having then received the sop, he went out immediately: now it was night.
30 Judas recebeu o pão e saiu logo. E era noite.
31 When therefore he was gone, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
31 Quando Judas saiu, Jesus disse:
32 If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him with himself, and immediately glorify him.
32 E, se por meio dele a natureza gloriosa de Deus for revelada, então Deus revelará em si mesmo a natureza divina do Filho do Homem. E Deus fará isso agora mesmo.
33 My dear children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: as I said to the Jews, Whither I am going, ye cannot come; so say I now to you.
33 Meus filhos, não vou ficar com vocês por muito tempo. Vocês vão me procurar, mas eu digo agora o que já disse aos líderes judeus: vocês não podem ir para onde eu vou.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
34 Eu lhes dou este novo mandamento: amem uns aos outros. Assim como eu os amei, amem também uns aos outros.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
35 Se tiverem amor uns pelos outros, todos saberão que vocês são meus discípulos.
36 Simon Peter saith to him, Lord, Whither art thou going? Jesus answered him, Whither I am going, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me hereafter.
36 Simão Pedro perguntou a Jesus: — Senhor, para onde é que o senhor vai? Jesus respondeu:
37 Peter saith to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.
37 Pedro tornou a perguntar: — Senhor, por que eu não posso segui-lo agora? Eu estou pronto para morrer pelo senhor!
38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I tell thee, the cock will not crow, before thou shalt deny me thrice.
38 — Está mesmo? — perguntou Jesus. — Pois eu afirmo a você que isto é verdade: antes que o galo cante, você dirá três vezes que não me conhece.
