1 So what shall we say? Should we remain in sin, so that grace may abound?
1 Pois bem, devemos continuar pecando para que Deus mostre cada vez mais sua graça?
2 Let it not be so! For how can we who have died to sin still live in sin?
2 Claro que não! Uma vez que morremos para o pecado, como podemos continuar vivendo nele?
3 Do you not know that those of us who have been baptized in Christ Jesus have been baptized into his death?
3 Ou acaso se esqueceram de que, quando fomos unidos a Cristo Jesus no batismo, nos unimos a ele em sua morte?
4 For through baptism we have been buried with him into death, so that, in the manner that Christ rose from the dead, by the glory of the Father, so may we also walk in the newness of life.
4 Pois, pelo batismo, morremos e fomos sepultados com Cristo. E, assim como ele foi ressuscitado dos mortos pelo poder glorioso do Pai, agora nós também podemos viver uma nova vida.
5 For if we have been planted together, in the likeness of his death, so shall we also be, in the likeness of his resurrection.
5 Uma vez que nossa união com ele se assemelhou à sua morte, assim também nossa ressurreição será semelhante à dele.
6 For we know this: that our former selves have been crucified together with him, so that the body which is of sin may be destroyed, and moreover, so that we may no longer serve sin.
6 Sabemos que nossa velha natureza humana foi crucificada com Cristo, para que o pecado não tivesse mais poder sobre nossa vida e dele deixássemos de ser escravos.
7 For he who has died has been justified from sin.
7 Pois, quando morremos com Cristo, fomos libertos do poder do pecado.
8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live together with Christ.
8 Então, uma vez que morremos com Cristo, cremos que também com ele viveremos.
9 For we know that Christ, in rising up from the dead, can no longer die: death no longer has dominion over him.
9 Temos certeza disso, pois Cristo foi ressuscitado dos mortos e não mais morrerá. A morte já não tem nenhum poder sobre ele.
10 For in as much as he died for sin, he died once. But in as much as he lives, he lives for God.
10 Quando ele morreu, foi de uma vez por todas, para quebrar o poder do pecado. Mas agora que ele vive, é para a glória de Deus.
11 And so, you should consider yourselves to be certainly dead to sin, and to be living for God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
11 Da mesma forma, considerem-se mortos para o poder do pecado e vivos para Deus em Cristo Jesus.
12 Therefore, let not sin reign in your mortal body, such that you would obey its desires.
12 Não deixem que o pecado reine sobre seu corpo, que está sujeito à morte, cedendo aos desejos pecaminosos.
13 Nor should you offer the parts of your body as instruments of iniquity for sin. Instead, offer yourselves to God, as if you were living after death, and offer the parts of your body as instruments of justice for God.
13 Não deixem que nenhuma parte de seu corpo se torne instrumento do mal para servir ao pecado, mas em vez disso entreguem-se inteiramente a Deus, pois vocês estavam mortos e agora têm nova vida. Portanto, ofereçam seu corpo como instrumento para fazer o que é certo para a glória de Deus.
14 For sin should not have dominion over you. For you are not under the law, but under grace.
14 O pecado não é mais seu senhor, pois vocês já não vivem sob a lei, mas sob a graça de Deus.
15 What is next? Should we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? Let it not be so!
15 Pois bem, uma vez que a graça nos libertou da lei, quer dizer que podemos continuar pecando? Claro que não!
16 Do you not know to whom you are offering yourselves as servants under obedience? You are the servants of whomever you obey: whether of sin, unto death, or of obedience, unto justice.
16 Vocês não sabem que se tornam escravos daquilo a que escolhem obedecer? Podem ser escravos do pecado, que conduz à morte, ou podem escolher obedecer a Deus, que conduz à vida de justiça.
17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be the servants of sin, now you have been obedient from the heart to the very form of the doctrine into which you have been received.
17 Graças a Deus, porque antes vocês eram escravos do pecado, mas agora obedecem de todo o coração a este ensino que lhes transmitimos.
18 And having been freed from sin, we have become servants of justice.
18 Estão livres da escravidão do pecado e se tornaram escravos da justiça.
19 I am speaking in human terms because of the infirmity of your flesh. For just as you offered the parts of your body to serve impurity and iniquity, for the sake of iniquity, so also have you now yielded the parts of your body to serve justice, for the sake of sanctification.
19 Uso o exemplo da escravidão para ajudá-los a entender isso tudo, pois sua natureza humana é fraca. No passado, vocês se deixaram escravizar pela impureza e pela maldade, o que os fez afundar ainda mais no pecado. Agora, devem se entregar como escravos à vida de justiça, para que se tornem santos.
20 For though you were once the servants of sin, you have become the children of justice.
20 Quando eram escravos do pecado, estavam livres da obrigação de fazer o que é certo.
21 But what fruit did you hold at that time, in those things about which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
21 E qual foi o resultado? Hoje vocês se envergonham das coisas que costumavam fazer, coisas que acabam em morte.
22 Yet truly, having been freed now from sin, and having been made servants of God, you hold your fruit in sanctification, and truly its end is eternal life.
22 Agora, porém, estão livres do poder do pecado e se tornaram escravos de Deus. Fazem aquilo que conduz à santidade e resulta na vida eterna.
23 For the wages of sin is death. But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
23 Pois o salário do pecado é a morte, mas a dádiva de Deus é a vida eterna em Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor.
