1 Now the sons of Ruben and of Gad had many herds, and their substance in cattle was inestimable. And when they had seen that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for feeding animals,
1 As tribos de Rúben e de Gade tinham gado em grande quantidade. Quando viram que a terra de Jazer e a terra de Gileade eram boas para a criação de gado,
2 they went to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest and the leaders of the multitude, and they said:
2 foram falar com Moisés, com o sacerdote Eleazar e com as autoridades do povo. Eles disseram o seguinte:
3 “Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon,
3 — ausente —
4 the land, which the Lord has struck in the sight of the sons of Israel, is a very fertile region for pasturing animals. And we, your servants, have very many cattle.

5 And so we beseech you, if we have found favor before you, that you give it to us, your subjects, as a possession, and that you not cause us cross the Jordan.”
5 Se o senhor está contente com a gente, então nos dê essa terra para ser nossa propriedade e não nos faça ir para o outro lado do rio Jordão.
6 And Moses answered them: “Should your brothers go to battle, while you sit here?
6 Porém Moisés disse às tribos de Gade e de Rúben: — Vocês querem ficar aqui enquanto os seus patrícios vão para a guerra?
7 Why do you subvert the minds of the sons of Israel, so that they might not dare to cross into the place which the Lord will give to them?
7 Será que vocês querem desanimar o povo de Israel para que não entre na terra que o Senhor lhe está dando?
8 Did not your fathers act in the same way, when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to explore the land?
8 Os pais de vocês fizeram a mesma coisa quando os enviei de Cades-Barneia para espionar esta terra.
9 And when they had gone all the way to the Valley of the Cluster of Grapes, having viewed the entire region, they subverted the hearts of the sons of Israel, so that they would not enter into the parts that the Lord gave to them.
9 Eles chegaram até o vale de Escol e viram a terra; mas, quando voltaram, desanimaram o povo para que não entrasse na terra que o Senhor lhe estava dando.
10 And being angry, the Lord swore an oath, saying:
10 — Então, naquele dia, o Senhor ficou muito irado e disse:
11 ‘These men, who ascended out of Egypt, from twenty years and above, will not see the land, which I have promised under an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For they were not willing to follow me,
11 “Os homens que vieram do Egito, de vinte anos para cima, deixaram de ser fiéis a mim, e por isso juro que eles não verão a terra que prometi dar a Abraão, a Isaque e a Jacó.”
12 except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun; these have fulfilled my will.’
12 Somente Calebe, filho de Jefoné, o quenezeu, e Josué, filho de Num, continuaram fiéis ao Senhor .
13 And the Lord, being angry against Israel, led them in a course through the desert for forty years, until the entire generation, which had done evil in his sight, was consumed.
13 O Senhor ficou irado com o povo de Israel e os fez andar pelo deserto quarenta anos, até que morresse toda a gente daquele tempo, isto é, o povo que havia desagradado a Deus, o Senhor .
14 And behold,” he said, “you have risen up in the place of your fathers, the offshoots and the nurslings of sinful men, in order to augment the fury of the Lord against Israel.
14 E agora vocês, raça de gente pecadora, estão tomando o lugar dos seus pais a fim de aumentar ainda mais a ira do Senhor contra o povo de Israel.
15 But if you are not willing to follow him, he will leave the people behind in the wilderness, and you will have been the cause of all our deaths.”
15 Se vocês não quiserem segui-lo, ele abandonará novamente todo o povo no deserto, e eles serão destruídos por causa de vocês.
16 But approaching closer, they said: “We will manufacture sheep pens and cattle stalls, as well as fortified cities, for our little ones.
16 Mas a gente das tribos de Rúben e de Gade chegou perto de Moisés e disse: — Nós mesmos vamos construir aqui currais para as nossas ovelhas e vacas e também cidades para as nossas famílias.
17 But we ourselves will continue on, armed and girded for battle, before the sons of Israel, until we lead them to their places. Our little ones, and whatever we may be able to have, shall be in walled cities, because of the treachery of the inhabitants.
17 Depois estaremos prontos para marchar para a guerra na frente dos nossos patrícios israelitas, até fazê-los tomar posse da terra que será deles. Porém as nossas famílias ficarão aqui nas cidades cercadas de muralhas e assim estarão a salvo dos moradores da terra.
18 We will not return to our houses, even until the sons of Israel may possess their inheritance.
18 Não voltaremos para as nossas casas até que todos os outros israelitas tomem posse da terra que será deles.
19 Neither will we seek anything across the Jordan, because we already have our possession on its eastern side.”
19 Não tomaremos posse de nenhuma propriedade no meio deles no outro lado do rio Jordão, pois receberemos a nossa parte aqui, a leste do Jordão.
20 And Moses said to them: “If you accomplish what you have promised, you may go out, equipped for battle, before the Lord.
20 Aí Moisés respondeu: — Se vocês vão fazer isso, então na presença de Deus, o
21 And let every fighting man cross over the Jordan, until the Lord overthrows his enemies,
21 E que todos os seus homens armados atravessem o rio Jordão debaixo das ordens do Senhor , até que os nossos inimigos sejam expulsos diante dele,
22 and all the land is subjected to him. Then you will be guiltless with the Lord and with Israel, and you will obtain the regions which you desire before the Lord.
22 e nós conquistemos a terra. Depois vocês poderão voltar porque já terão cumprido a sua obrigação para com Deus, o Senhor , e para com os seus patrícios israelitas. E o Senhor reconhecerá esta terra a leste do rio Jordão como propriedade de vocês.
23 But if you do not do what you have said, no one could doubt that you will have sinned against God. And know this: your sin shall overtake you.
23 Porém, se vocês não cumprirem o que estão prometendo, estarão pecando contra o Senhor . E fiquem sabendo que vocês serão castigados por causa dos seus próprios pecados.
24 Therefore, build cities for your little ones, and pens and stables for your sheep and cattle; and fulfill what you have promised.”
24 Construam as cidades para as suas famílias e façam currais para as suas ovelhas e vacas. E cumpram o que prometeram.
25 And the sons of Gad and of Ruben said to Moses: “We are your servants, we shall do what you, our ruler, orders.
25 Os homens de Gade e de Rúben disseram a Moisés o seguinte: — Nós faremos o que o senhor mandar.
26 We will leave behind our little ones, and our wives, and the sheep and cattle, in the cities of Gilead.
26 As nossas crianças, as nossas mulheres, as nossas ovelhas, as nossas cabras e todo o gado ficarão aqui nas cidades de Gileade.
27 And we, your servants, all well-equipped, will go forth to battle, just as you, our ruler, has spoken.”
27 Mas todos nós estamos prontos para a guerra. Conforme a sua ordem, atravessaremos o Jordão e batalharemos, debaixo do comando do Senhor Deus.
28 Therefore, Moses instructed Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the princes of the families throughout the tribes of Israel, and he said to them:
28 Então Moisés deu ordens a respeito dos homens das tribos de Rúben e de Gade ao sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué, filho de Num, e aos chefes das famílias das tribos dos israelitas.
29 “If the sons of Gad and the sons of Ruben cross over the Jordan with you, all armed for war before the Lord, and if the land becomes subject to you, give them Gilead as a possession.
29 Ele disse assim: — Debaixo do comando de Deus, o
30 But if they are not willing to cross with you, armed, into the land of Canaan, then let them receive places among you for their dwellings.”
30 Porém, se eles não atravessarem armados o rio Jordão, junto com vocês, então deverão receber a parte deles na terra de Canaã.
31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Ruben responded: “Just as the Lord has spoken to his servants, so shall we do.
31 Os homens de Gade e de Rúben responderam: — Senhor, nós faremos o que o
32 We will go forth, armed, before the Lord into the land of Canaan; and we acknowledge that we have already received our possession across the Jordan.”
32 Debaixo do comando dele atravessaremos o Jordão, armados, e lutaremos na terra de Canaã; e assim as terras deste lado do rio Jordão serão nossa propriedade.
33 And so, Moses gave to the sons of Gad and of Ruben, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan, and their land with its surrounding cities.
33 Então Moisés deu às tribos de Gade e de Rúben e a uma metade da tribo de Manassés, filho de José, a região de Seom, o rei dos amorreus, e a região de Ogue, rei de Basã, junto com as cidades e as terras que havia em redor delas.
34 Therefore, the sons of Gad built up Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
34 Os homens da tribo de Gade construíram de novo as cidades de Dibom, Atarote, Aroer,
35 and Atroth and Shophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,
35 Atarote-Sofã, Jazer, Jogbeá,
36 and Beth-Nimrah, and Beth-Haran, as fortified cities with pens for their cattle.
36 Bete-Ninra e Bete-Harã. Construíram muralhas ao redor delas e também currais.
37 Yet truly, the sons of Ruben built up Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,
37 Os homens de Rúben construíram de novo Hesbom, Eleal, Quiriataim,
38 and Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names having been changed) and Sibmah, appointing names for the cities which they had built.
38 Nebo, Baal-Meom (alguns nomes foram mudados) e Sibma. E deram outros nomes às cidades que eles construíram de novo.
39 Moreover, the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, continued on within Gilead, and they devastated it, putting to death its inhabitant, the Amorite.
39 O grupo de famílias de Maquir, filho de Manassés, foi para Gileade, e a conquistou, e expulsou os amorreus que estavam ali.
40 Therefore, Moses gave the land of Gilead to Machir, the son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.
40 Portanto, Moisés deu Gileade ao grupo de famílias de Maquir, e eles moraram ali.
41 But Jair, the son of Manasseh, went out and occupied its villages, which he called Havoth Jair, that is, the Villages of Jair.
41 Jair, descendente de Manassés, foi e conquistou alguns povoados dos amorreus e os chamou de “povoados de Jair”.
42 Likewise, Nobah went forth and captured Kenath with its villages. And he called it by his own name, Nobah.
42 Noba foi e conquistou a cidade de Quenate e os seus povoados. E pôs o nome nela de Noba, que era o nome dele mesmo.
