1 “O sons of Benjamin, be strengthened in the midst of Jerusalem, and sound the trumpet in Tekoa, and lift up a banner over the house of Haccherem. For an evil has been seen from the north, with great destruction.
1 Fugi para salvação vossa, filhos de Benjamim, do meio de Jerusalém; e tocai a buzina em Tecoa, e levantai um sinal de fogo sobre Bete-Haquerém; porque do lado norte surge um mal e uma grande destruição.
2 I have compared the daughter of Zion to a beautiful and delicate woman.
2 À formosa e delicada assemelhei a filha de Sião.
3 The pastors will come to her with their flocks. They have pitched their tents against her all around. Each one will feed those who are under his hand.
3 Mas contra ela virão pastores com os seus rebanhos; levantarão contra ela tendas em redor, e cada um apascentará no seu lugar.
4 ‘Sanctify a war against her! Rise up together, and let us ascend at midday.’ ‘Woe to us! For the day has declined; for the shadows of the evening have grown longer.’
4 Preparai a guerra contra ela, levantai-vos, e subamos ao pino do meio-dia. Ai de nós! Já declina o dia, já se vão estendendo as sombras da tarde.
5 ‘Rise up, and let us ascend in the night, and let us destroy her houses.’ ”
5 Levantai-vos, e subamos de noite, e destruamos os seus palácios.
6 For thus says the Lord of hosts: “Cut down her trees, and build a rampart around Jerusalem. This is the city of visitation! Every kind of false claim is in her midst.
6 Porque assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos: Cortai árvores, e levantai trincheiras contra Jerusalém; esta é a cidade que há de ser castigada, só opressão há no meio dela.
7 Just as a cistern makes its water cold, so has she made her wickedness cold. Iniquity and devastation will be heard in her; sickness and wounds will be ever before me.
7 Como a fonte produz as suas águas, assim ela produz a sua malícia; violência e estrago se ouvem nela; enfermidade e feridas há diante de mim continuamente.
8 O Jerusalem, accept instruction, lest perhaps my soul may withdraw from you; lest perhaps I may set you in a desert, in an uninhabitable land.”
8 Corrige-te, ó Jerusalém, para que a minha alma não se aparte de ti, para que não te torne em assolação e terra não habitada.
9 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “They will gather the remnant of Israel, even as a single cluster of grapes is gathered from a vine. Direct your hand, as a grape-gatherer directs his hand to the basket.
9 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: Diligentemente respigarão os resíduos de Israel como uma vinha; torna a tua mão, como o vindimador, aos cestos.
10 To whom should I speak, and to whom should I testify, so as to be heard? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised, and so they are unable to hear. Behold, for them, the word of the Lord has become a disgrace. And so they will not accept it.
10 A quem falarei e testemunharei, para que ouça? Eis que os seus ouvidos estão incircuncisos, e não podem ouvir; eis que a palavra do Senhor é para eles coisa vergonhosa, e não gostam dela.
11 For this reason, I have been filled with the fury of the Lord. I labor to bear it. Let it be poured out upon the child outside, or upon a group of young men meeting together. For a man will be taken captive with a woman, an elder will be taken captive with one who is full of days.
11 Por isso estou cheio do furor do Senhor; estou cansado de o conter; derramá-lo-ei sobre os meninos pelas ruas e na reunião de todos os jovens; porque até o marido com a mulher serão presos, e o velho com o que está cheio de dias.
12 And their houses will be given over to others, with both their lands and their wives. For I will extend my hand over the inhabitants of the earth, says the Lord.
12 E as suas casas passarão a outros, como também as suas herdades e as suas mulheres juntamente; porque estenderei a minha mão contra os habitantes desta terra, diz o Senhor.
13 Certainly, from the least of them even to the greatest, all of them practice greed. And from the prophet even to the priest, all of them act with deceit.
13 Porque desde o menor deles até ao maior, cada um se dá à avareza; e desde o profeta até ao sacerdote, cada um usa de falsidade.
14 And they healed the destruction of the daughter of my people with disgrace, by saying: ‘Peace, peace.’ And there was no peace.
14 E curam superficialmente a ferida da filha do meu povo, dizendo: Paz, paz; quando não há paz.
15 They were confounded, because they committed an abomination. Or rather, they were not confounded with shame, because they did not know how to blush. For this reason, they will fall among those who are being destroyed. In the time of their visitation, they will fall, says the Lord.”
15 Porventura envergonham-se de cometer abominação? Pelo contrário, de maneira nenhuma se envergonham, nem tampouco sabem que coisa é envergonhar-se; portanto cairão entre os que caem; no tempo em que eu os visitar, tropeçarão, diz o Senhor.
16 Thus says the Lord: “Stand above the ways, and see and ask, about the ancient paths, as to which is the good way, and then walk in it. And you will find refreshment for your souls. But they said: ‘We will not walk.’
16 Assim diz o Senhor: Ponde-vos nos caminhos, e vede, e perguntai pelas veredas antigas, qual é o bom caminho, e andai por ele; e achareis descanso para as vossas almas; mas eles dizem: Não andaremos nele.
17 And I appointed watchers over you, saying: ‘Listen for the sound of the trumpet.’ And they said: ‘We will not listen.’
17 Também pus atalaias sobre vós, dizendo: Estai atentos ao som da trombeta; mas dizem: Não escutaremos.
18 For this reason, hear, O Gentiles, and know, O congregation, how much I will do to them.
18 Portanto ouvi, vós, nações; e informa-te tu, ó congregação, do que se faz entre eles!
19 Hear, O earth! Behold, I will lead evils over this people, as the fruits of their own thoughts. For they have not listened to my words, and they have cast aside my law.
19 Ouve tu, ó terra! Eis que eu trarei mal sobre este povo, o próprio fruto dos seus pensamentos; porque não estão atentos às minhas palavras, e rejeitam a minha lei.
20 For what reason are you bringing me frankincense from Sheba, and sweet smelling reeds from a far away land? Your holocausts are not acceptable, and your sacrifices are not pleasing to me.”
20 Para que, pois, me vem o incenso de Sabá e a melhor cana aromática de terras remotas? Vossos holocaustos não me agradam, nem me são suaves os vossos sacrifícios.
21 Therefore, thus says the Lord: “Behold I will bring this people to utter ruin, and they will fall, with their fathers and sons; neighbor and relative will perish together.”
21 Portanto assim diz o Senhor: Eis que armarei tropeços a este povo; e tropeçarão neles pais e filhos juntamente; o vizinho e o seu companheiro perecerão.
22 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, a people is coming from the land of the north, and a great nation will rise up from the ends of the earth.
22 Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que um povo vem da terra do norte, e uma grande nação se levantará das extremidades da terra.
23 They will take hold of arrow and shield. They are cruel, and they will not take pity. Their voice will roar like the ocean. And they will climb upon horses, for they have been prepared like men for battle, against you, O daughter of Zion.
23 Arco e lança trarão; são cruéis, e não usarão de misericórdia; a sua voz rugirá como o mar, e em cavalos virão montados, dispostos como homens de guerra contra ti, ó filha de Sião.
24 ‘We have heard of their fame. Our hands have become weakened. Tribulation has overtaken us, like the pains of a woman giving birth.’
24 Ouvimos a sua fama, afrouxaram-se as nossas mãos; angústia nos tomou, e dores como as de parturiente.
25 Do not choose to go out into the fields, and you should not walk along the roadway. For the sword and the terror of the enemy is on every side.
25 Não saiais ao campo, nem andeis pelo caminho; porque espada do inimigo e espanto há ao redor.
26 Wrap yourself in haircloth, O daughter of my people. And sprinkle yourself with ashes. Make a mourning for yourself, as for an only son, a bitter lamentation: ‘for the destroyer will overwhelm us suddenly.’
26 Ó filha do meu povo, cinge-te de saco, e revolve-te na cinza; pranteia como por um filho único, pranto de amargura; porque de repente virá o destruidor sobre nós.
27 I have presented you as a strong tester among my people. And you will test and know their way.
27 Por torre de guarda te pus entre o meu povo, por fortaleza, para que soubesses e examinasses o seu caminho.
28 All these leaders who are turning away and walking deceitfully, they are brass and iron; they have all been corrupted.
28 Todos eles são os mais rebeldes, andam murmurando; são duros como bronze e ferro; todos eles são corruptores.
29 The bellows has failed; the lead has been consumed by fire; the molten metal was melted to no purpose. For their wickedness has not been consumed.
29 Já o fole se queimou, o chumbo se consumiu com o fogo; em vão fundiu o fundidor tão diligentemente, pois os maus não são arrancados.
30 Call them: ‘Rejected silver.’ For the Lord has cast them aside.”
30 Prata rejeitada lhes chamarão, porque o Senhor os rejeitou.
