1 After two years, Pharaoh saw a dream. He thought himself to be standing above a river,
1 Dois anos inteiros se passaram, e o faraó sonhou que estava em pé na margem do rio Nilo.
2 from which ascended seven cows, exceedingly beautiful and stout. And they pastured in marshy places.
2 Em seu sonho, viu sete vacas gordas e saudáveis saírem do rio e começarem a pastar no meio dos juncos.
3 Likewise, another seven emerged from the river, filthy and thoroughly emaciated. And they pastured on the same bank of the river, in green places.
3 Em seguida, viu outras sete vacas saírem do Nilo. Eram feias e magras e pararam junto das vacas gordas à beira do rio.
4 And they devoured those whose appearance and condition of body was so wonderful. Pharaoh, having been awakened,
4 Então as vacas feias e magras comeram as sete vacas gordas e saudáveis. Nessa parte do sonho, o faraó acordou.
5 slept again, and he saw another dream. Seven ears of grain sprung up on one stalk, full and well-formed.
5 Depois, voltou a dormir e teve outro sonho. Dessa vez, viu sete espigas de trigo, cheias e boas, que cresciam em um só talo.
6 Likewise, other ears of grain, of the same number, rose up, thin and struck with blight,
6 Em seguida, apareceram mais sete espigas, mas elas eram murchas e ressequidas pelo vento do leste.
7 devouring all the beauty of the first. Pharaoh, when he awakened after his rest,
7 Então as espigas miúdas engoliram as sete espigas cheias e bem formadas. O faraó acordou novamente e percebeu que era um sonho.
8 and when morning arrived, being terrified with fear, sent to all the interpreters of Egypt and to all of the wise men. And when they were summoned, he explained to them his dream; but there was no one who could interpret it.
8 Na manhã seguinte, perturbado com os sonhos, o faraó chamou todos os magos e os sábios do Egito. Contou-lhes os sonhos, mas ninguém conseguiu interpretá-los.
9 Then at last the chief cupbearer, remembering, said, “I confess my sin.
9 Por fim, o chefe dos copeiros se pronunciou. “Hoje eu me lembrei do meu erro”, disse ao faraó.
10 The king, being angry with his servants, ordered me and the chief miller of grain to be forced into the prison of the leader of the military.
10 “Algum tempo atrás, o senhor se irou com o chefe dos padeiros e comigo e mandou prender-nos no palácio do capitão da guarda.
11 There, in one night, both of us saw a dream presaging the future.
11 Certa noite, o chefe dos padeiros e eu tivemos, cada um, um sonho, e cada sonho tinha o seu significado.
12 In that place, there was a Hebrew, a servant of the same commander of the military, to whom we explained our dreams.
12 Estava conosco na prisão um rapaz hebreu que era escravo do capitão da guarda. Contamos a ele nossos sonhos, e ele explicou o que cada um significava.
13 Whatever we heard was proven afterwards by the event of the matter. For I was restored to my office, and he was suspended on a cross.”
13 E tudo aconteceu exatamente como ele havia previsto. Fui restaurado ao meu cargo de chefe dos copeiros, e o chefe dos padeiros foi enforcado em público.”
14 Immediately, by the king’s authority, Joseph was led out of prison, and they shaved him. And changing his apparel, they presented him to him.
14 Na mesma hora, o faraó mandou chamar José, e ele foi trazido depressa da prisão. Depois de barbear-se e trocar de roupa, apresentou-se ao faraó.
15 And he said to him, “I have seen dreams, and there is no one who can unfold them. I have heard that you are very wise at interpreting these.”
15 Disse o faraó a José: “Tive um sonho esta noite e ninguém aqui conseguiu me dizer o que ele significa. Soube, porém, que ao ouvir um sonho você é capaz de interpretá-lo”.
16 Joseph responded, “Apart from me, God will respond favorably to Pharaoh.”
16 José respondeu: “Essa capacidade não está em minhas mãos, mas Deus pode revelar o significado ao faraó e acalmá-lo”.
17 Therefore, Pharaoh explained what he had seen: “I thought myself to be standing on the bank of a river,
17 Então o faraó contou o sonho a José: “Em meu sonho, eu estava em pé na margem do rio Nilo
18 and seven cows climbed up from the river, exceedingly beautiful and full of flesh. And they grazed in a pasture of a marshy greenery.
18 e vi sete vacas gordas e saudáveis saírem do rio e começarem a pastar no meio dos juncos.
19 And behold, there followed after these, another seven cows, with such deformity and emaciation as I had never seen in the land of Egypt.
19 Em seguida, vi saírem do rio sete vacas feias e magras que pareciam doentes. Nunca vi animais tão horríveis em toda a terra do Egito.
20 These devoured and consumed the first,
20 Essas vacas feias e magras comeram as sete vacas gordas.
21 giving no indication of being full. But they remained in the same state of emaciation and squalor. Awakening, but being weighed down into sleep again,
21 Contudo, não parecia que haviam acabado de comer as outras vacas, pois continuavam tão magras e feias quanto antes. Então, acordei.
22 I saw a dream. Seven ears of grain sprang up on one stalk, full and very beautiful.
22 “Em meu sonho, também vi sete espigas de trigo, cheias e boas, que cresciam em um só talo.
23 Likewise, another seven, thin and struck with blight, rose up from the stalk.
23 Em seguida, apareceram outras sete espigas, mas elas eram murchas, miúdas e ressequidas pelo vento do leste.
24 And they devoured the beauty of the first. I explained this dream to the interpreters, and there is no one who can unfold it.”
24 As espigas miúdas engoliram as sete espigas saudáveis. Contei os sonhos aos magos, mas ninguém foi capaz de dizer o que significam”.
25 Joseph responded: “The dream of the king is one. What God will do, he has revealed to Pharaoh.
25 José respondeu: “Os dois sonhos do faraó significam a mesma coisa. Deus está dizendo ao faraó de antemão o que ele vai fazer.
26 The seven beautiful cows, and the seven full ears of grain, are seven years of abundance. And so the force of the dreams is understood to be the same.
26 As sete vacas saudáveis e as sete espigas de trigo cheias representam sete anos de prosperidade.
27 Likewise, the seven thin and emaciated cows, which ascended after them, and the seven thin ears of grain, which were struck with the burning wind, are seven approaching years of famine.
27 As sete vacas feias e magras e as sete espigas miúdas e ressequidas pelo vento do leste representam sete anos de fome.
28 These will be fulfilled in this order.
28 “Acontecerá exatamente como eu descrevi, pois Deus revelou ao faraó de antemão o que ele vai fazer.
29 Behold, there will arrive seven years of great fertility throughout the entire land of Egypt.
29 Os próximos sete anos serão um período de grande prosperidade em toda a terra do Egito.
30 After this, there will follow another seven years, of such great barrenness that all the former abundance will be delivered into oblivion. For the famine will consume all the land,
30 Depois, haverá sete anos de fome tão grande que toda essa prosperidade será esquecida no Egito, pois a fome destruirá a terra.
31 and the greatness of this destitution will cause the greatness of the abundance to be lost.
31 A escassez de alimento será tão terrível que apagará até a lembrança dos anos de fartura.
32 Now, as to what you saw the second time, it is a dream pertaining to the same thing. It is an indication of its firmness, because the word of God shall be done, and it shall be completed swiftly.
32 Quanto ao fato de terem sido dois sonhos parecidos, significa que esses acontecimentos foram decretados por Deus, e ele os fará ocorrer em breve.
33 Now therefore, let the king provide a wise and industrious man, and place him over the land of Egypt,
33 “Portanto, o faraó deve encontrar um homem inteligente e sábio e encarregá-lo de administrar o Egito.
34 so that he may appoint overseers throughout all the regions. And let a fifth part of the fruits, throughout the seven fertile years
34 O faraó também deve nomear supervisores sobre a terra, para que recolham um quinto de todas as colheitas durante os sete anos de fartura.
35 that now have already begun to occur, be gathered into storehouses. And let all the grain be stored away, under the power of Pharaoh, and let it be kept in the cities.
35 Encarregue-os de juntar todo o alimento produzido nos anos bons que virão e levá-lo para os armazéns do faraó. Mande-os estocar e guardar os cereais, para que haja mantimento nas cidades.
36 And let it be prepared for the future famine of seven years, which will oppress Egypt, and then the land will not be consumed by destitution.”
36 Desse modo, quando os sete anos de fome vierem sobre a terra do Egito, haverá comida suficiente. Assim, a fome não destruirá a terra”.
37 The counsel pleased Pharaoh and all his ministers.
37 O faraó e seus oficiais gostaram das sugestões de José.
38 And he said to them, “Would we be able to find another such man, who is full of the Spirit of God?”
38 Por isso, o faraó perguntou aos oficiais: “Será que encontraremos alguém como este homem? Sem dúvida, há nele o espírito de Deus!”.
39 Therefore, he said to Joseph: “Because God has revealed to you all that you have said, would I be able to find anyone wiser and as much like you?
39 Então o faraó disse a José: “Uma vez que Deus lhe revelou o significado dos sonhos, é evidente que não há ninguém tão inteligente ou sábio quanto você.
40 You will be over my house, and to the authority of your mouth, all the people will show obedience. Only in one way, in the throne of the kingdom, will I go before you.”
40 Ficará encarregado de minha corte, e todo o meu povo obedecerá às suas ordens. Apenas eu, que ocupo o trono, terei uma posição superior à sua”.
41 And again, Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have appointed you over the entire land of Egypt.”
41 O faraó acrescentou: “Eu o coloco oficialmente no comando de toda a terra do Egito”.
42 And he took the ring from his own hand, and he gave it into his hand. And he clothed him with a robe of fine linen, and he placed a necklace of gold around his neck.
42 Então o faraó tirou do dedo o seu anel com o selo real e o pôs no dedo de José. Mandou vesti-lo com roupas de linho fino e pôs uma corrente de ouro em seu pescoço.
43 And he caused him to ascend upon his second swift chariot, with the herald proclaiming that everyone should bend their knee before him, and that they should know that he was governor over the entire land of Egypt.
43 Também o fez andar na carruagem reservada para quem era o segundo no poder, e, por onde José passava, gritava-se a ordem: “Ajoelhem-se!”. Assim, o faraó colocou José no comando de todo o Egito
44 Likewise, the king said to Joseph: “I am Pharaoh: apart from your authority, no one will move hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.”
44 e lhe disse: “Eu sou o faraó, mas ninguém levantará a mão ou o pé em toda a terra do Egito sem a sua permissão”.
45 And he changed his name and called him, in the Egyptian tongue: ‘Savior of the world.’ And he gave him as a wife, Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis. And so Joseph went out into the land of Egypt.
45 O faraó deu a José um nome egípcio: Zafenate-Paneia. Também lhe deu uma mulher, que se chamava Azenate. Ela era filha de Potífera, sacerdote de Om. Assim, José recebeu autoridade sobre todo o Egito.
46 (Now he was thirty years old when he stood in the sight of king Pharaoh.) And he traveled throughout the regions of Egypt.
46 Tinha 30 anos quando começou a servir na corte do faraó, o rei do Egito. Depois de sair da presença do faraó, José foi inspecionar toda a terra do Egito.
47 And the fertility of the seven years arrived. And when the grain fields were reduced to sheaves, these were gathered into the storehouses of Egypt.
47 Como previsto, durante sete anos a terra produziu fartas colheitas.
48 And now all the abundance of grain was stored away in every city.
48 Ao longo desse tempo, José juntou todas as colheitas do Egito e armazenou nas cidades os cereais produzidos nos campos ao redor.
49 And there was such a great abundance of wheat that it was comparable to the sands of the sea, and its bounty exceeded all measure.
49 Armazenou uma quantidade imensa de cereais, como a areia do mar. Por fim, parou de manter registros, pois havia demais para medir.
50 Then, before the famine arrived, Joseph had two sons born, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of Heliopolis, bore for him.
50 Durante esse tempo, antes do primeiro ano de fome, José e sua mulher, Azenate, filha de Potífera, sacerdote de Om, tiveram dois filhos.
51 And he called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, saying, “God has caused me to forget all my labors and the house of my father.”
51 José chamou o filho mais velho de Manassés, pois disse: “Deus me fez esquecer todas as minhas dificuldades e toda a família de meu pai”.
52 Likewise, he named the second Ephraim, saying, “God has caused me to increase in the land of my poverty.”
52 José chamou o segundo filho de Efraim, pois disse: “Deus me fez prosperar na terra da minha aflição”.
53 And so, when the seven years of fertility that occurred in Egypt had passed,
53 Por fim, terminaram os sete anos de colheitas fartas em toda a terra do Egito,
54 the seven years of destitution, which Joseph had predicted, began to arrive. And the famine prevailed throughout the whole world, but there was bread in all the land of Egypt.
54 e começaram os sete anos de fome, como José havia previsto. A fome também afetou as regiões vizinhas, mas havia alimento de sobra em todo o Egito.
55 And being hungry, the people cried out to Pharaoh, asking for provisions. And he said to them: “Go to Joseph. And do whatever he will tell you.”
55 Depois de algum tempo, porém, a fome também se espalhou pelo Egito. Quando o povo clamou ao faraó para que lhe desse alimento, ele respondeu a todos os egípcios: “Dirijam-se a José e sigam as instruções dele”.
56 Then the famine increased daily in all the land. And Joseph opened all of the storehouses and sold to the Egyptians. For the famine had oppressed them also.
56 Quando faltou alimento em toda parte, José mandou abrir os armazéns e vendeu cereais aos egípcios, pois a fome era terrível em toda a terra do Egito.
57 And all the provinces came to Egypt, to buy food and to temper the misfortune of their destitution.
57 Gente de todos os lugares ia ao Egito comprar cereais de José, pois a fome era terrível no mundo inteiro.
