1 Then, after the tumult ceased, Paul, calling the disciples to himself and exhorting them, said farewell. And he set out, so that he might go into Macedonia.
1 Quando acabou a confusão, Paulo mandou chamar os irmãos e falou com eles para animá-los. Então se despediu deles e foi para a província da Macedônia.
2 And when he had walked through those areas and had exhorted them with many sermons, he went into Greece.
2 Atravessou aquelas regiões, animando muito com as suas mensagens os cristãos. Aí chegou à província da Acaia,
3 After he had spent three months there, treacheries were planned against him by the Jews, just as he was about to sail into Syria. And having been advised of this, he return through Macedonia.
3 onde ficou três meses. Quando já estava pronto para ir à província da Síria, soube que os judeus estavam fazendo planos contra ele. Então resolveu voltar pela Macedônia.
4 Now those accompanying him were Sopater, the son of Pyrrhus from Beroea; and also the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and also Tychicus and Trophimus from Asia.
4 Foram com ele as seguintes pessoas: Sópatro, filho de Pirro, da cidade de Bereia; Aristarco e Segundo, de Tessalônica; Gaio, de Derbe; Timóteo; e também Tíquico e Trófimo, que eram da província da Ásia.
5 These, after they had gone ahead, waited for us at Troas.
5 Eles foram na frente e nos esperaram na cidade de Trôade.
6 Yet truly, we sailed from Philippi, after the days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days we went to them at Troas, where we stayed for seven days.
6 Depois da Festa dos Pães sem Fermento , nós partimos da cidade de Filipos. Cinco dias depois nos encontramos com eles em Trôade e ficamos ali uma semana.
7 Then, on the first Sabbath, when we had assembled together to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, intending to set out the next day. But he prolonged his sermon into the middle of the night. The expression “first Sabbath” refers to Easter Sunday, the commemoration of the first Christian Sabbath. In the year in question, Easter Sunday was celebrated some 12 (5 + 7) days or more after “the days of Unleavened Bread”, which refers to Passover. It is unclear how Easter Sunday was calculated at that early time in the Church, but it did not always coincide with Passover.
7 No sábado à noite nós nos reunimos com os irmãos para partir o pão . Paulo falou nessa reunião e continuou falando até a meia-noite, pois ia viajar no dia seguinte.
8 Now there were plenty of lamps in the upper room, where we were gathered.
8 Havia muitas lamparinas acesas na sala onde nós estávamos reunidos, a qual ficava no terceiro andar da casa.
9 And a certain adolescent named Eutychus, sitting on the window sill, was being weighed down by a heavy drowsiness (for Paul was preaching at length). Then, as he went to sleep, he fell from the third floor room downward. And when he was lifted up, he was dead.
9 Um moço chamado Êutico estava sentado numa janela. E, como Paulo continuasse falando durante muito tempo, o sono do moço foi aumentando. De repente, ele dormiu e caiu da janela. Quando o levantaram, estava morto.
10 When Paul had gone down to him, he laid himself over him and, embracing him, said, “Do not worry, for his soul is still within him.”
10 Então Paulo desceu, abaixou-se, abraçou o moço e disse: — Não se assustem, pois ele está vivo.
11 And so, going up, and breaking bread, and eating, and having spoken well on until daylight, he then set out.
11 Em seguida Paulo subiu de novo, partiu o pão e comeu. Falou ainda muito tempo, até de manhã, e depois foi embora.
12 Now they had brought the boy in alive, and they were more than a little consoled.
12 Aí levaram o moço, vivo, para a casa dele, e isso os deixou muito animados.
13 Then we climbed aboard the ship and sailed to Assos, where we were to take in Paul. For so he himself had decided, since he was making the journey by land.
13 Nós fomos na frente e embarcamos no navio que nos levou até o porto de Assôs, onde devíamos esperar Paulo. Ele mandou que fizéssemos isso porque queria ir por terra até lá.
14 And when he had joined us at Assos, we took him in, and we went to Mitylene.
14 Quando ele se encontrou conosco em Assôs, nós o recebemos no navio e seguimos viagem até a cidade de Mitilene.
15 And sailing from there, on the following day, we arrived opposite Chios. And next we landed at Samos. And on the following day we went to Miletus.
15 Então partimos dali e, no dia seguinte, passamos perto da ilha de Quios. No outro dia já estávamos na ilha de Samos e um dia depois chegamos ao porto de Mileto.
16 For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he would not be delayed in Asia. For he was hurrying so that, if it were possible for him, he might observe the day of Pentecost at Jerusalem.
16 Paulo tinha resolvido não parar na cidade de Éfeso para não ficar muito tempo na província da Ásia. Ele estava com pressa, pois queria chegar a Jerusalém, se possível, antes do dia de Pentecostes .
17 Then, sending from Miletus to Ephesus, he called those greater by birth in the church.
17 Em Mileto Paulo mandou chamar os presbíteros da igreja de Éfeso para se encontrarem com ele.
18 And when they had come to him and were together, he said to them: “You know that from the first day when I entered into Asia, I have been with you, for the entire time, in this manner:
18 Quando eles chegaram, Paulo disse: — Vocês sabem como foi que passei todo o tempo que estivemos juntos, desde o primeiro dia em que cheguei à
19 serving the Lord, with all humility and despite the tears and trials which befell me from the treacheries of the Jews,
19 Fiz o meu trabalho como servo do Senhor, com toda a humildade e com lágrimas. E isso apesar dos tempos difíceis que tive, por causa dos judeus que se juntavam contra mim.
20 how I held back nothing that was of value, how well I have preached to you, and that I have taught you publicly and throughout the houses,
20 Vocês também sabem que fiz tudo para ajudar vocês, anunciando o evangelho e ensinando publicamente e nas casas.
21 testifying both to Jews and to Gentiles about repentance in God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
21 Eu disse com firmeza aos judeus e aos não judeus que eles deviam se arrepender dos seus pecados, voltar para Deus e crer no nosso Senhor Jesus.
22 And now, behold, being obliged in spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there,
22 Agora eu vou para Jerusalém, obedecendo ao Espírito Santo, sem saber o que vai me acontecer lá.
23 except that the Holy Spirit, throughout every city, has cautioned me, saying that chains and tribulations await me at Jerusalem.
23 Sei somente que em todas as cidades o Espírito Santo tem me avisado que prisões e sofrimentos estão me esperando.
24 But I dread none of these things. Neither do I consider my life to be more precious because it is my own, provided that in some way I may complete my own course and that of the ministry of the Word, which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the Gospel of the grace of God.
24 Mas eu não dou valor à minha própria vida. O importante é que eu complete a minha missão e termine o trabalho que o Senhor Jesus me deu para fazer. E a missão é esta: anunciar a boa notícia da graça de Deus.
25 And now, behold, I know that you will no longer see my face, all of you among whom I have traveled, preaching the kingdom of God.
25 — Eu tenho estado entre vocês, anunciando o Reino de Deus , e agora sei que vocês não vão me ver mais.
26 For this reason, I call you as witnesses on this very day: that I am clean from the blood of all.
26 Por isso, com toda a certeza eu afirmo hoje que, se algum de vocês se perder, eu não sou o responsável.
27 For I have not turned aside in the least from announcing every counsel of God to you.
27 Pois não deixei de lhes anunciar todo o plano de Deus.
28 Take care of yourselves and of the entire flock, over which the Holy Spirit has stationed you as Bishops to rule the Church of God, which he has purchased by his own blood.
28 Cuidem de vocês mesmos e de todo o rebanho que o Espírito Santo entregou aos seus cuidados, como pastores da Igreja de Deus, que ele comprou por meio do sangue do seu próprio Filho.
29 I know that after my departure ravenous wolves will enter among you, not sparing the flock.
29 Pois eu sei que, depois que eu for, aparecerão lobos ferozes no meio de vocês e eles não terão pena do rebanho.
30 And from among yourselves, men will rise up, speaking perverse things in order to entice disciples after them.
30 E chegará o tempo em que alguns de vocês contarão mentiras, procurando levar os irmãos para o seu lado.
31 Because of this, be vigilant, retaining in memory that throughout three years I did not cease, night and day, with tears, to admonish each and every one of you.
31 Portanto, fiquem vigiando e lembrem que durante três anos, de dia e de noite, eu, chorando, não parei de ensinar cada um de vocês.
32 And now, I commend you to God and to the Word of his grace. He has the power to build up, and to give an inheritance to all who are sanctified.
32 — E agora eu os entrego aos cuidados de Deus e da palavra da sua graça. Pois ele pode ajudá-los a progredir espiritualmente e pode dar-lhes as bênçãos que guarda para todo o seu povo.
33 I have coveted neither silver and gold, nor apparel,
33 Não cobicei nem a prata, nem o ouro, nem as roupas de ninguém.
34 as you yourselves know. For that which was needed by me and by those who are with me, these hands have provided.
34 Pelo contrário, vocês sabem que eu trabalhei com as minhas próprias mãos e consegui tudo o que eu e os meus companheiros de trabalho precisávamos.
35 I have revealed all things to you, because by laboring in this way, it is necessary to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
35 Em tudo tenho mostrado a vocês que é trabalhando assim que podemos ajudar os necessitados. Lembrem das palavras do Senhor Jesus: “É mais feliz quem dá do que quem recebe.”
36 And when he had said these things, kneeling down, he prayed with all of them.
36 Quando Paulo acabou de falar, ajoelhou-se com os irmãos e orou.
37 Then a great weeping occurred among them all. And, falling upon the neck of Paul, they kissed him,
37 Então todos choraram muito e abraçaram e beijaram Paulo.
38 being grieved most of all over the word which he had said, that they would never see his face again. And they brought him to the ship.
38 Estavam tristes, especialmente porque ele lhes tinha dito que nunca mais iam vê-lo. Então eles o acompanharam até o navio.
