1 How the gold has become tarnished, the pure gold has become dull! The gems of the temple lie scattered on every street corner.
1 Como se escureceu o ouro! Como se mudou o ouro refinado! Como estão espalhadas as pedras do santuário pelas esquinas de todas as ruas!
2 How the precious sons of Zion, once worth their weight in pure gold, are now esteemed as jars of clay, the work of a potter’s hands!
2 Os nobres filhos de Sião, comparáveis a puro ouro, como são agora reputados por objetos de barro, obra das mãos de oleiro!
3 Even jackals offer their breasts to nurse their young, but the daughter of my people has become cruel, like an ostrich in the wilderness.
3 Até os chacais dão o peito, dão de mamar a seus filhos; mas a filha do meu povo tornou-se cruel como os avestruzes no deserto.
4 The nursing infant’s tongue clings in thirst to the roof of his mouth. Little children beg for bread, but no one gives them any.
4 A língua da criança que mama fica pegada, pela sede, ao céu da boca; os meninos pedem pão, e ninguém há que lho dê.
5 Those who once ate delicacies are destitute in the streets; those brought up in crimson huddle in ash heaps.
5 Os que se alimentavam de comidas finas desfalecem nas ruas; os que se criaram entre escarlata se apegam aos monturos.
6 The punishment of the daughter of my people is greater than that of Sodom, which was overthrown in an instant without a hand turned to help her.
6 Porque maior é a maldade da filha do meu povo do que o pecado de Sodoma, que foi subvertida como num momento, sem o emprego de mãos nenhumas.
7 Her dignitaries were brighter than snow, whiter than milk; their bodies were more ruddy than rubies, their appearance like sapphires.
7 Os seus príncipes eram mais alvos do que a neve, mais brancos do que o leite; eram mais ruivos de corpo do que os corais e tinham a formosura da safira.
8 But now their appearance is blacker than soot; they are not recognized in the streets. Their skin has shriveled on their bones; it has become as dry as a stick.
8 Mas, agora, escureceu-se-lhes o aspecto mais do que a fuligem; não são conhecidos nas ruas; a sua pele se lhes pegou aos ossos, secou-se como uma madeira.
9 Those slain by the sword are better off than those who die of hunger, who waste away, pierced with pain because the fields lack produce.
9 Mais felizes foram as vítimas da espada do que as vítimas da fome; porque estas se definham atingidas mortalmente pela falta do produto dos campos.
10 The hands of compassionate women have cooked their own children, who became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
10 As mãos das mulheres outrora compassivas cozeram seus próprios filhos; estes lhes serviram de alimento na destruição da filha do meu povo.
11 The LORD has exhausted His wrath; He has poured out His fierce anger; He has kindled a fire in Zion, and it has consumed her foundations.
11 Deu o Senhor cumprimento à sua indignação, derramou o ardor da sua ira; acendeu fogo em Sião, que consumiu os seus fundamentos.
12 The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any people of the world, that an enemy or a foe could enter the gates of Jerusalem.
12 Não creram os reis da terra, nem todos os moradores do mundo, que entrasse o adversário e o inimigo pelas portas de Jerusalém.
13 But this was for the sins of her prophets and the guilt of her priests, who shed the blood of the righteous in her midst.
13 Foi por causa dos pecados dos seus profetas, das maldades dos seus sacerdotes que se derramou no meio dela o sangue dos justos.
14 They wandered blind in the streets, defiled by this blood, so that no one dared to touch their garments.
14 Erram como cegos nas ruas, andam contaminados de sangue, de tal sorte que ninguém lhes pode tocar nas roupas.
15 “Go away! Unclean!” men shouted at them. “Away, away! Do not touch us!” So they fled and wandered. Among the nations it was said, “They can stay here no longer.”
15 Apartai-vos, imundos! — gritavam-lhes; apartai-vos, apartai-vos, não toqueis! Quando fugiram errantes, dizia-se entre as nações: Jamais habitarão aqui.
16 The presence of the LORD has scattered them; He regards them no more. The priests are shown no honor; the elders find no favor.
16 A ira do Senhor os espalhou; ele jamais atentará para eles; o inimigo não honra os sacerdotes, nem se compadece dos anciãos.
17 All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for help. We watched from our towers for a nation that could not save us.
17 Os nossos olhos ainda desfalecem, esperando vão socorro; temos olhado das vigias para um povo que não pode livrar.
18 They stalked our every step, so that we could not walk in our streets. Our end drew near, our time ran out, for our end had come!
18 Espreitavam os nossos passos, de maneira que não podíamos andar pelas nossas praças; aproximava-se o nosso fim, os nossos dias se cumpriam, era chegado o nosso fim.
19 Those who chased us were swifter than the eagles in the sky; they pursued us over the mountains and ambushed us in the wilderness.
19 Os nossos perseguidores foram mais ligeiros do que as aves dos céus; sobre os montes nos perseguiram, no deserto nos armaram ciladas.
20 The LORD’s anointed, the breath of our life, was captured in their pits. We had said of him, “Under his shadow we will live among the nations.”
20 O fôlego da nossa vida, o ungido do Senhor , foi preso nos forjes deles; dele dizíamos: debaixo da sua sombra, viveremos entre as nações.
21 So rejoice and be glad, O Daughter of Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz. Yet the cup will pass to you as well; you will get drunk and expose yourself.
21 Regozija-te e alegra-te, ó filha de Edom, que habitas na terra de Uz; o cálice se passará também a ti; embebedar-te-ás e te desnudarás.
22 O Daughter of Zion, your punishment is complete; He will not prolong your exile. But He will punish your iniquity, O Daughter of Edom; He will expose your sins.
22 O castigo da tua maldade está consumado, ó filha de Sião; o a tua maldade, ó filha de Edom, descobrirá os teus pecados.
