1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, through the will of God, and Timotheus the brother, to the assembly of God that is in Corinth, with all the saints who are in all Achaia:
1 Paulo, apóstolo de Cristo Jesus pela vontade de Deus, e o irmão Timóteo, à igreja de Deus que está em Corinto e a todos os santos em toda a Acaia.
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!
2 Que a graça e a paz de Deus, nosso Pai, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo estejam com vocês.
3 Blessed is God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of the mercies, and God of all comfort,
3 Bendito seja o Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, o Pai de misericórdias e Deus de toda consolação!
4 who is comforting us in all our tribulation, for our being able to comfort those in any tribulation through the comfort with which we are comforted ourselves by God;
4 É ele que nos consola em toda a nossa tribulação, para que, pela consolação que nós mesmos recebemos de Deus, possamos consolar os que estiverem em qualquer espécie de tribulação.
5 because, as the sufferings of the Christ do abound to us, so through the Christ does abound also our comfort;
5 Porque, assim como transbordam sobre nós os sofrimentos de Cristo, assim também por meio de Cristo transborda o nosso consolo.
6 and whether we be in tribulation, it is for your comfort and salvation, that is wrought in the enduring of the same sufferings that we also suffer; whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort and salvation;
6 Se somos atribulados, é para o consolo e a salvação de vocês; se somos consolados, é também para o consolo de vocês. Esse consolo se torna eficaz na medida em que vocês suportam com paciência os mesmos sofrimentos que nós também suportamos.
7 and our hope is stedfast for you, knowing that even as you are partakers of the sufferings -- so also of the comfort.
7 A nossa esperança em relação a vocês é sólida, sabendo que, assim como vocês são participantes dos sofrimentos, assim também serão participantes da consolação.
8 For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, of our tribulation that happened to us in Asia, that we were exceedingly burdened above our power, so that we despaired even of life;
8 Porque não queremos, irmãos, que vocês fiquem sem saber que tipo de tribulação nos sobreveio na província da Ásia. Foi algo acima das nossas forças, a ponto de perdermos a esperança até da própria vida.
9 but we ourselves in ourselves the sentence of the death have had, that we may not be trusting on ourselves, but on God, who is raising the dead,
9 De fato, tivemos em nós mesmos a sentença de morte, para que não confiássemos em nós mesmos, e sim no Deus que ressuscita os mortos,
10 who out of so great a death did deliver us, and does deliver, in whom we have hoped that even yet He will deliver;
10 o qual nos livrou e ainda livrará de tão grande morte. Nele temos esperado que ainda continuará a nos livrar,
11 you working together also for us by your supplication, that the gift through many persons to us, through many may be thankfully acknowledged for us.
11 enquanto vocês nos ajudam com orações a nosso favor, para que, por muitos, sejam dadas graças a Deus a nosso respeito, pelo benefício que nos foi concedido por meio da súplica de muitos.
12 For our glorying is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom, but in the grace of God, we did conduct ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you;
12 Porque a nossa glória é esta: o testemunho da nossa consciência de que com simplicidade e sinceridade de Deus, não com sabedoria humana, mas na graça divina, temos vivido no mundo, especialmente em relação a vocês.
13 for no other things do we write to you, but what you either do read or also acknowledge, and I hope that also unto the end you shall acknowledge,
13 Porque nenhuma outra coisa escrevemos para vocês, a não ser aquilo que vocês leem e entendem. E espero que vocês entendam completamente,
14 according as also you did acknowledge us in part, that your glory we are, even as also you are ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus;
14 como também já nos entenderam em parte, que seremos a glória de vocês, assim como vocês também serão a nossa glória no Dia de Jesus, nosso Senhor.
15 and in this confidence I was purposing to come unto you before, that a second favour you might have,
15 Com esta confiança, eu queria primeiro ir encontrar-me com vocês, para que tivessem um segundo benefício.
16 and through you to pass to Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and by you to be sent forward to Judea.
16 Queria, ao passar por aí, dirigir-me à Macedônia, e da Macedônia voltar a encontrar-me com vocês, sendo então encaminhado por vocês para a Judeia.
17 This, therefore, counselling, did I then use the lightness; or the things that I counsel, according to the flesh do I counsel, that it may be with me Yes, yes, and No, no?
17 Ora, ao querer isso, será que agi com leviandade? Ou, ao tomar decisões, será que decido segundo a carne, de modo que haja em mim, simultaneamente, o “sim, sim” e o “não, não”?
18 and God is faithful, that our word unto you became not Yes and No,
18 Mas, como Deus é fiel, a nossa palavra, dirigida a vocês, não é “sim e não”.
19 for the Son of God, Jesus Christ, among you through us having been preached -- through me and Silvanus and Timotheus -- did not become Yes and No, but in him it has become Yes;
19 Porque o Filho de Deus, Jesus Cristo, que foi anunciado entre vocês por nós, isto é, por mim, Silvano e Timóteo, não foi “sim e não”; pelo contrário, nele sempre houve o “sim”.
20 for as many as are promises of God, in him are the Yes, and in him the Amen, for glory to God through us;
20 Porque todas as promessas de Deus têm nele o “sim”. Por isso, também por meio dele se diz o “amém” para glória de Deus, por meio de nós.
21 and He who is confirming you with us into Christ, and did anoint us, is God,
21 Mas aquele que nos confirma juntamente com vocês em Cristo e que nos ungiu é Deus,
22 who also sealed us, and gave the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
22 que também pôs o seu selo em nós e nos deu o penhor do Espírito em nosso coração.
23 And I for a witness on God do call upon my soul, that sparing you, I came not yet to Corinth;
23 Eu, porém, por minha vida, tomo Deus por testemunha de que foi para poupar vocês que ainda não voltei a Corinto.
24 not that we are lords over your faith, but we are workers together with your joy, for by the faith you stand.
24 Não que tenhamos domínio sobre a fé que vocês têm, mas porque somos cooperadores da alegria de vocês. Porque, pela fé, vocês estão firmes.
