1 And Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars, and provide for me here seven bulls and seven rams."
1 E Balaão disse a Balaque: Edifica-me aqui sete altares, e prepara-me aqui sete novilhos e sete carneiros.
2 Balak did as Balaam had said; and Balak and Balaam offered on each altar a bull and a ram.
2 E Balaque fez o que Balaão lhe havia dito, e Balaque e Balaão ofereceram sobre cada altar um novilho e um carneiro.
3 And Balaam said to Balak, "Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me; and whatever he shows me I will tell you." And he went to a bare height.
3 E Balaão disse a Balaque: Fica em pé ao lado da tua oferta queimada, e eu irei; talvez o SENHOR venha ao meu encontro, e tudo o que ele mostrar, te direi. E foi a um lugar alto.
4 And God met Balaam; and Balaam said to him, "I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered upon each altar a bull and a ram."
4 E Deus encontrou-se com Balaão, e este lhe disse: Eu preparei sete altares, e sobre cada altar ofereci um novilho e um carneiro.
5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak."
5 E o SENHOR pôs uma palavra na boca de Balaão e disse: Volta para Balaque e isto lhe dirás.
6 And he returned to him, and lo, he and all the princes of Moab were standing beside his burnt offering.
6 E retornou para ele, e eis que estava junto a sua oferta queimada, ele, e todos os príncipes de Moabe.
7 And Balaam took up his discourse, and said, "From Aram Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains: `Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!'
7 E ele proferiu a sua parábola e disse: Balaque, rei de Moabe, me mandou trazer de Arã, das montanhas do oriente, dizendo: Vem, amaldiçoa-me a Jacó; e vem, desafia a Israel.
8 How can I curse whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?
8 Como amaldiçoarei a quem Deus não amaldiçoou? E como desprezarei a quem o SENHOR não desprezou?
9 For from the top of the mountains I see him, from the hills I behold him; lo, a people dwelling alone, and not reckoning itself among the nations!
9 Porque do topo das rochas eu os vejo, e dos outeiros os contemplo; eis que este povo habitará só, e não será contado entre as nações.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my end be like his!"
10 Quem pode contar o pó de Jacó e o número da quarta parte de Israel? Que eu morra a morte dos justos, e que o meu fim seja como o seu!
11 And Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have done nothing but bless them."
11 E Balaque disse a Balaão: Que me fizeste? Chamei-te para amaldiçoar os meus inimigos, mas eis que os abençoaste completamente.
12 And he answered, "Must I not take heed to speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?"
12 E ele respondeu, e disse: Eu não deverei ter o cuidado de falar o que o SENHOR pôs na minha boca?
13 And Balak said to him, "Come with me to another place, from which you may see them; you shall see only the nearest of them, and shall not see them all; then curse them for me from there."
13 E Balaque lhe disse: Peço-te, vem comigo a outro lugar, de onde poderás vê-los; verás somente a parte mais distante deles, e não os verás a todos; e amaldiçoa-mo dali.
14 And he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
14 E o levou consigo ao campo de Zofim, ao topo de Pisga; e edificou sete altares, e ofereceu um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.
15 Balaam said to Balak, "Stand here beside your burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder."
15 E Balaão disse a Balaque: Fica de pé aqui junto à tua oferta queimada, e eu irei ali ao encontro do SENHOR.
16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus shall you speak."
16 E o SENHOR foi ao encontro de Balaão, e pôs uma palavra na sua boca, e disse: Vá novamente até Balaque e fala isto.
17 And he came to him, and, lo, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, "What has the LORD spoken?"
17 E vindo a ele, eis que estava junto à oferta queimada, e os príncipes de Moabe com ele; e Balaque lhe perguntou: O que disse o SENHOR?
18 And Balaam took up his discourse, and said, "Rise, Balak, and hear; hearken to me, O son of Zippor:
18 E ele proferiu a sua parábola, e disse: Levanta-te, Balaque, e ouve; inclina os teus ouvidos a mim, filho de Zipor.
19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfil it?
19 Deus não é homem, para que minta; nem filho do homem, para que se arrependa; diria ele algo e não o faria? Ou falaria e não o cumpriria?
20 Behold, I received a command to bless: he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it.
20 Eis que recebi a ordem de abençoar; e ele abençoou, e eu não posso reverter isso.
21 He has not beheld misfortune in Jacob; nor has he seen trouble in Israel. The LORD their God is with them, and the shout of a king is among them.
21 Ele não viu iniquidade em Jacó, nem contemplou maldade em Israel; o SENHOR, seu Deus é com ele, e o bradar de um rei está entre eles.
22 God brings them out of Egypt; they have as it were the horns of the wild ox.
22 Deus os trouxe do Egito; as suas forças são como as de um unicórnio.
23 For there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel; now it shall be said of Jacob and Israel, `What has God wrought!'
23 Certamente não há encantamento contra Jacó, nem há qualquer adivinhação contra Israel; segundo este tempo será dito de Jacó e de Israel: O que fez Deus!
24 Behold, a people! As a lioness it rises up and as a lion it lifts itself; it does not lie down till it devours the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain."
24 Eis que o povo se levantará como um grande leão, se erguerá como um leãozinho; ele não se deitará até comer a presa e beber o sangue dos mortos.
25 And Balak said to Balaam, "Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all."
25 E Balaque disse a Balaão: Nem o amaldiçoarás, nem o abençoarás.
26 But Balaam answered Balak, "Did I not tell you, `All that the LORD says, that I must do'?"
26 Mas Balaão respondeu, e disse a Balaque: Não te falei dizendo: Tudo o que o SENHOR falar, isso eu farei?
27 And Balak said to Balaam, "Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there."
27 E Balaque disse a Balaão: Vem, peço-te, eu te levarei a outro lugar; porventura será do agrado de Deus que dali os amaldiçoes.
28 So Balak took Balaam to the top of Pe'or, that overlooks the desert.
28 E Balaque levou Balaão ao topo de Peor, que dá vista para Jesimom.
29 And Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars, and provide for me here seven bulls and seven rams."
29 E Balaão disse a Balaque: Edifica-me aqui sete altares, e prepara-me aqui sete novilhos e sete carneiros.
30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
30 E Balaque fez como Balaão lhe havia dito, e ofereceu um novilho e um carneiro sobre cada altar.
