Números 13

1 The LORD said to Moses,
1 E o SENHOR falou a Moisés, dizendo:
2 "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the people of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a leader among them."
2 Envia homens, para que possam examinar a terra de Canaã, que darei aos filhos de Israel; de cada tribo de seus pais, enviarás um homem, sendo cada um governante entre eles.
3 So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel.
3 E Moisés, de acordo com a ordem do SENHOR, os enviou, do deserto de Parã; todos esses homens eram cabeças dos filhos de Israel.
4 And these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Sham'mu-a the son of Zaccur;
4 E eram estes os seus nomes: da tribo de Rúben, Samua, filho de Zacur;
5 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
5 da tribo de Simeão, Safate, filho de Hori;
6 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephun'neh;
6 da tribo de Judá, Calebe, filho de Jefoné;
7 from the tribe of Is'sachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
7 da tribo de Issacar, Jigeal, filho de José;
8 from the tribe of E'phraim, Hoshe'a the son of Nun;
8 da tribo de Efraim, Oseias, filho de Num;
9 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
9 da tribo de Benjamim, Palti, filho de Rafu;
10 from the tribe of Zeb'ulun, Gad'diel the son of Sodi;
10 da tribo de Zebulom, Gadiel, filho de Sodi;
11 from the tribe of Joseph (that is from the tribe of Manas'seh), Gaddi the son of Susi;
11 da tribo de José, pela tribo de Manassés, Gadi, filho de Susi;
12 from the tribe of Dan, Am'miel the son of Gemal'li;
12 da tribo de Dã, Amiel, filho de Gemali;
13 from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
13 da tribo de Aser, Setur, filho de Micael;
14 from the tribe of Naph'tali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
14 da tribo de Naftali, Nabi, filho de Vofsi;
15 from the tribe of Gad, Geu'el the son of Machi.
15 da tribo de Gade, Geuel, filho de Maqui.
16 These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshe'a the son of Nun Joshua.
16 Estes são os nomes dos homens que Moisés enviou a examinar aquela terra; e Moisés deu a Oseias, filho de Num, o nome de Josué.
17 Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, "Go up into the Negeb yonder, and go up into the hill country,
17 E Moisés mandou espiar a terra de Canaã; e lhes disse: Segui pelo caminho do sul, e subi à montanha.
18 and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many,
18 E vede como é a terra, e como é o povo que ali habita, se é forte ou fraco, se são poucos ou muitos.
19 and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds,
19 E como é a terra em que habitam, se é boa ou má, e como são as cidades em que habitam, se em tendas ou em fortalezas.
20 and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there is wood in it or not. Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.
20 E como é a terra, se é repleta ou estéril, se há matas ou não. E tende bom ânimo e trazei do fruto da terra. Era aquele tempo o tempo das primícias das uvas.
21 So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath.
21 Assim, subiram e examinaram a terra, desde o deserto de Zim até Reobe, à entrada de Hamate.
22 They went up into the Negeb, and came to Hebron; and Ahi'man, She'shai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zo'an in Egypt.)
22 E subiram pelo sul e foram até Hebrom, onde estavam Aimã, Sesai e Talmai, os filhos de Anaque; Hebrom foi edificada sete anos antes de Zoã, no Egito.
23 And they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they brought also some pomegranates and figs.
23 E foram até ao ribeiro de Escol e ali cortaram um ramo com um cacho de uvas, e o trouxeram dois homens em uma vara, e trouxeram também romãs e figos.
24 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down from there.
24 Esse lugar foi chamado o ribeiro de Escol, por causa do cacho de uvas que cortaram os filhos de Israel.
25 At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land.
25 E voltaram de examinar a terra, depois de quarenta dias.
26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
26 E vieram até Moisés, e Arão, e à toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel, em Cades, no deserto de Parã, e lhes deram a informação, e a toda a congregação, e lhes mostraram os frutos da terra.
27 And they told him, "We came to the land to which you sent us; it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
27 E contaram-lhe, e disseram: Fomos à terra para onde tu nos enviaste; e verdadeiramente mana leite e mel; e este é o seu fruto.
28 Yet the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large; and besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.
28 Todavia, é forte o povo que habita na terra, e as cidades são fortificadas e mui grandes; além disso, vimos ali os filhos de Anaque.
29 The Amal'ekites dwell in the land of the Negeb; the Hittites, the Jeb'usites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan."
29 Os amalequitas habitam na terra do sul; e os heteus, os jebuseus e os amorreus habitam nas montanhas; e os cananeus habitam junto ao mar e à margem do Jordão.
30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once, and occupy it; for we are well able to overcome it."
30 E Calebe fez com que o povo se calasse diante de Moisés e disse: Subamos imediatamente, e possuamos a terra, porque somos capazes de conquistá-la.
31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we."
31 Mas os homens que haviam subido com ele disseram: Não poderemos subir contra aquele povo, porque são mais fortes do que nós.
32 So they brought to the people of Israel an evil report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone, to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
32 E apresentaram, diante dos filhos de Israel, maus relatos sobre a terra que haviam examinado, e disseram: A terra pela qual passamos para examiná-la é uma terra que devora os seus moradores; e todo o povo que vimos nela são homens de grande estatura.
33 And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim); and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them."
33 E ali vimos os gigantes, os filhos de Anaque, que são descendentes de gigantes; e éramos aos nossos próprios olhos como gafanhotos, e assim éramos aos seus olhos.
