1 But in the seventh year Jehoi'ada took courage, and entered into a compact with the commanders of hundreds, Azari'ah the son of Jero'ham, Ish'mael the son of Jehoha'nan, Azari'ah the son of Obed, Ma-asei'ah the son of Adai'ah, and Elisha'phat the son of Zichri.
1 No sétimo ano, o sacerdote Joiada tomou coragem e mandou chamar cinco oficiais do exército: Azarias, filho de Jeorão; Ismael, filho de Jeoanã; Azarias, filho de Obede; Maaseias, filho de Adaías; e Elisafate, filho de Zicri. Joiada conseguiu convencê-los a ajudá-lo.
2 And they went about through Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
2 Então eles foram por todo o país e voltaram trazendo para Jerusalém os levitas e os chefes de famílias de todas as cidades de Judá.
3 And all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And Jehoi'ada said to them, "Behold, the king's son! Let him reign, as the LORD spoke concerning the sons of David.
3 Todos se reuniram no Templo e fizeram um acordo com Joás, o filho do rei. E Joiada lhes disse: — Aqui está o filho do rei! É ele quem deve ser rei, de acordo com a promessa que o
4 This is the thing that you shall do: of you priests and Levites who come off duty on the sabbath, one third shall be gatekeepers,
4 Vocês vão fazer o seguinte: uma terça parte de vocês levitas e sacerdotes que estão de serviço no sábado guardará os portões do Templo;
5 and one third shall be at the king's house and one third at the Gate of the Foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.
5 a outra terça parte ficará de guarda no palácio, e a outra terça parte ficará no Portão do Alicerce. O povo se reunirá nos pátios do Templo.
6 Let no one enter the house of the LORD except the priests and ministering Levites; they may enter, for they are holy, but all the people shall keep the charge of the LORD.
6 Ninguém deverá entrar no Lugar Santo , a não ser os sacerdotes e os levitas que estiverem de serviço. Eles poderão entrar porque foram consagrados; todos os outros devem ficar do lado de fora, como o Senhor Deus manda.
7 The Levites shall surround the king, each with his weapons in his hand; and whoever enters the house shall be slain. Be with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out."
7 Os levitas, com as armas na mão, ficarão em volta do rei Joás e irão com ele a qualquer lugar aonde ele for. Qualquer pessoa que entrar no Lugar Santo será morta.
8 The Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoi'ada the priest commanded. They each brought his men, who were to go off duty on the sabbath, with those who were to come on duty on the sabbath; for Jehoi'ada the priest did not dismiss the divisions.
8 Os levitas e o povo fizeram tudo o que Joiada ordenou. Cada oficial reuniu os seus homens, tanto os que entravam de serviço no sábado como os que saíam; pois Joiada não deixou que fossem embora os que estavam saindo do serviço.
9 And Jehoi'ada the priest delivered to the captains the spears and the large and small shields that had been King David's, which were in the house of God;
9 Ele entregou aos oficiais as lanças e os escudos que tinham sido do rei Davi e que haviam ficado guardados no Templo.
10 and he set all the people as a guard for the king, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the south side of the house to the north side of the house, around the altar and the house.
10 Em seguida, pôs por toda a frente do Templo os soldados armados com espadas para protegerem o rei.
11 Then he brought out the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they proclaimed him king, and Jehoi'ada and his sons anointed him, and they said, "Long live the king."
11 Então levaram Joás para fora, colocaram a coroa na cabeça dele e lhe entregaram uma cópia do Testemunho. Assim ele se tornou rei. Joiada e os seus filhos o ungiram , e todos gritaram: — Viva o rei!
12 When Athali'ah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she went into the house of the LORD to the people;
12 A rainha Atalia ouviu os gritos do povo, que corria e dava vivas ao rei, e foi até o Templo, onde todos estavam reunidos.
13 and when she looked, there was the king standing by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpeters beside the king, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and the singers with their musical instruments leading in the celebration. And Athali'ah rent her clothes, and cried, "Treason! Treason!"
13 Ela viu o novo rei perto da coluna, na entrada do Templo. Ele estava rodeado pelos oficiais e pelos corneteiros, e todo o povo estava gritando de alegria e tocando trombetas. Os cantores do Templo, com os seus instrumentos musicais, estavam dirigindo os cânticos de louvor. Em sinal de desespero, Atalia rasgou as suas roupas e gritou: — Traição! Traição!
14 Then Jehoi'ada the priest brought out the captains who were set over the army, saying to them, "Bring her out between the ranks; any one who follows her is to be slain with the sword." For the priest said, "Do not slay her in the house of the LORD."
14 Joiada não queria que Atalia fosse morta na área do Templo e por isso deu aos oficiais do exército a seguinte ordem: — Levem a rainha para fora, passando pelo meio das filas de guardas, e matem qualquer pessoa que tentar salvá-la.
15 So they laid hands on her; and she went into the entrance of the horse gate of the king's house, and they slew her there.
15 Então eles a prenderam e levaram para o palácio. E ali, no Portão dos Cavalos, ela foi morta.
16 And Jehoi'ada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king that they should be the LORD's people.
16 O sacerdote Joiada fez um acordo com todo o povo e com o rei Joás, pelo qual eles seriam o povo de Deus, o Senhor .
17 Then all the people went to the house of Ba'al, and tore it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they slew Mattan the priest of Ba'al before the altars.
17 Então o povo foi até o templo do deus Baal e o derrubou. Eles quebraram os altares e os ídolos e ali, em frente dos altares, pegaram Matã, o sacerdote de Baal, e o mataram.
18 And Jehoi'ada posted watchmen for the house of the LORD under the direction of the Levitical priests and the Levites whom David had organized to be in charge of the house of the LORD, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the order of David.
18 Joiada pôs os sacerdotes e os levitas para tomarem conta do serviço do Templo. O rei Davi os tinha organizado em grupos para apresentarem os sacrifícios a Deus, segundo está escrito na Lei de Moisés, e para cantarem e louvarem de acordo com as instruções de Davi.
19 He stationed the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the LORD so that no one should enter who was in any way unclean.
19 Joiada pôs guardas nos portões do Templo para impedirem que qualquer pessoa impura entrasse na área do Templo.
20 And he took the captains, the nobles, the governors of the people, and all the people of the land; and they brought the king down from the house of the LORD, marching through the upper gate to the king's house. And they set the king upon the royal throne.
20 Aí Joiada, os oficiais, as altas autoridades, os governadores e todo o povo levaram o rei do Templo para o palácio. Entraram pelo portão principal, e o rei se sentou no trono.
21 So all the people of the land rejoiced; and the city was quiet, after Athali'ah had been slain with the sword.
21 Todos estavam felizes, e a cidade ficou calma, pois Atalia tinha sido morta.
