1 Now the Philistines gathered all their forces at Aphek; and the Israelites were encamped by the fountain which is in Jezreel.
1 Ora, os filisteus reuniram todos os seus exércitos em Afeque; e os israelitas acamparam junto a uma fonte que está em Jezreel.
2 As the lords of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing on in the rear with A'chish,
2 E os senhores dos filisteus passaram adiante por centenas e por milhares; mas Davi e os seus homens passaram adiante na retaguarda, com Aquis.
3 the commanders of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" And A'chish said to the commanders of the Philistines, "Is not this David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me now for days and years, and since he deserted to me I have found no fault in him to this day."
3 Então disseram os príncipes dos filisteus: O que fazem estes hebreus aqui? E Aquis disse aos príncipes dos filisteus: Não é este Davi, o servo de Saul, rei de Israel, o qual tem estado comigo nestes dias, ou nestes anos, e nele não achei falha desde que veio até mim até este dia?
4 But the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him; and the commanders of the Philistines said to him, "Send the man back, that he may return to the place to which you have assigned him; he shall not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?
4 E os príncipes dos filisteus ficaram nervosos com ele; e os príncipes dos filisteus lhe disseram: Faz retornar este sujeito para que ele possa ir novamente ao seu lugar o qual tu lhe indicaste, e que ele não desça conosco à batalha, para que, na batalha, não seja ele um adversário para nós; pois por meio de que ele se reconciliaria com o seu senhor? Não seria com as cabeças destes homens?
5 Is not this David, of whom they sing to one another in dances, `Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands'?"
5 Não é este Davi, de quem cantavam uns aos outros, com danças, dizendo:
6 Then A'chish called David and said to him, "As the LORD lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that you should march out and in with me in the campaign; for I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless the lords do not approve of you.
6 Então, Aquis chamou Davi, e lhe disse: Certamente, como vive o SENHOR, tu tens sido reto, e a tua saída e a tua entrada, comigo, no exército é boa na minha visão; pois não encontrei mal em ti desde o dia da vinda até mim até este dia; todavia os senhores não te favorecem.
7 So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines."
7 Pelo que, agora, retorna, e vai em paz, para que tu não desagrades os senhores dos filisteus.
8 And David said to A'chish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"
8 E Davi disse a Aquis: Mas, o que tenho feito? E o que encontraste tu no teu servo desde que tenho estado contigo até este dia, que me impeça de ir lutar contra os inimigos do rei, meu senhor?
9 And A'chish made answer to David, "I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God; nevertheless the commanders of the Philistines have said, `He shall not go up with us to the battle.'
9 E Aquis respondeu e disse a Davi: Eu sei que tu és bom na minha visão, como um anjo de Deus; não obstante, os príncipes dos filisteus disseram: Ele não subirá conosco para a batalha.
10 Now then rise early in the morning with the servants of your lord who came with you; and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light."
10 Pelo que, agora, levanta-te cedo pela manhã com os servos do teu mestre que contigo vieram; e, tão logo estejas de pé pela manhã, e tenhas luz, parte.
11 So David set out with his men early in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
11 Assim, Davi e os seus homens se levantaram cedo e partiram pela manhã, para retornar à terra dos filisteus. E os filisteus subiram a Jezreel.
