1 And Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you king over his people Israel; now therefore hearken to the words of the LORD.
1 Samuel também disse a Saul: O SENHOR enviou-me a ungir-te para seres rei sobre o seu povo, sobre Israel; agora, portanto, atenta à voz das palavras do SENHOR.
2 Thus says the LORD of hosts, `I will punish what Am'alek did to Israel in opposing them on the way, when they came up out of Egypt.
2 Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos: Lembro-me daquilo que Amaleque fez a Israel, como ele se deitava em espera por ele no caminho, quando ele subia do Egito.
3 Now go and smite Am'alek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.'"
3 Agora, vai e fere Amaleque, e destrói por completo tudo o que eles têm, e não os poupa; mas mata tanto homem como mulher, crianças e os que mamam, boi e ovelha, camelo e jumento.
4 So Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Tela'im, two hundred thousand men on foot, and ten thousand men of Judah.
4 E Saul reuniu o povo, e os contou em Telaim: duzentos mil homens de pé, e dez mil homens de Judá.
5 And Saul came to the city of Am'alek, and lay in wait in the valley.
5 E Saul veio a uma cidade de Amaleque, e lançou-se em espera no vale.
6 And Saul said to the Ken'ites, "Go, depart, go down from among the Amal'ekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up out of Egypt." So the Ken'ites departed from among the Amal'ekites.
6 E Saul disse ao queneus: Ide, parti, descei dentre os amalequitas, para que eu não vos destrua com eles; pois vós mostrastes bondade para com todos os filhos de Israel, quando eles subiram do Egito. Assim, os queneus partiram do meio dos amalequitas.
7 And Saul defeated the Amal'ekites, from Hav'ilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt.
7 E Saul feriu os amalequitas desde Havilá até chegar a Sur, que está diante do Egito.
8 And he took Agag the king of the Amal'ekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
8 E ele tomou Agague, rei dos amalequitas, vivo, e destruiu por completo todo o povo com o fio da espada.
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them; all that was despised and worthless they utterly destroyed.
9 Porém, Saul e o povo pouparam Agague, e o melhor das ovelhas, e dos bois, e dos animais novos engordados, e os cordeiros, e tudo o que era bom, e não quis destruí-los por completo; mas tudo o que era vil e rejeitado eles destruíram por completo.
10 The word of the LORD came to Samuel:
10 Então, veio a palavra do SENHOR a Samuel, dizendo:
11 "I repent that I have made Saul king; for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments." And Samuel was angry; and he cried to the LORD all night.
11 Arrependi-me de haver estabelecido Saul como rei; pois ele virou as costas para não me seguir, e não tem cumprido os meus mandamentos. E isto consternou Samuel; e ele clamou ao SENHOR toda a noite.
12 And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, "Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal."
12 E, quando Samuel se levantou cedo para se encontrar com Saul pela manhã, foi dito a Samuel: Saul veio a Carmelo, e eis que edificou para si um lugar, e se foi, e passou adiante e desceu até Gilgal.
13 And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, "Blessed be you to the LORD; I have performed the commandment of the LORD."
13 E Samuel veio até Saul; e Saul lhe disse: Bendito sejas tu do SENHOR; eu cumpri o mandamento do SENHOR.
14 And Samuel said, "What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?"
14 E Samuel disse: O que, então, significa este balido das ovelhas em meus ouvidos, e o mugido dos bois que ouço?
15 Saul said, "They have brought them from the Amal'ekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed."
15 E Saul disse: Eles os trouxeram dos amalequitas; pois o povo poupou o melhor das ovelhas e dos bois, para sacrificar ao SENHOR teu Deus; e o restante nós destruímos por completo.
16 Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stop! I will tell you what the LORD said to me this night." And he said to him, "Say on."
16 Então Samuel disse a Saul: Fica, e te contarei o que o SENHOR me disse esta noite. E ele lhe disse: Prossegue.
17 And Samuel said, "Though you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel.
17 E Samuel disse: Quando tu eras pequeno à tua própria vista, não fostes tu feito cabeça das tribos de Israel, e te ungiu o SENHOR rei sobre Israel?
18 And the LORD sent you on a mission, and said, `Go, utterly destroy the sinners, the Amal'ekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.'
18 E o SENHOR te enviou em uma viagem, e disse: Vai e destrói por completo os pecadores, os amalequitas, e luta contra eles até que sejam consumidos.
19 Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop on the spoil, and do what was evil in the sight of the LORD?"
19 Por que, então, não obedeceste a voz do SENHOR, mas voaste sobre o despojo, e fizeste o mal à vista do SENHOR?
20 And Saul said to Samuel, "I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, I have gone on the mission on which the LORD sent me, I have brought Agag the king of Am'alek, and I have utterly destroyed the Amal'ekites.
20 E Saul disse a Samuel: Sim, obedeci a voz do SENHOR, e segui pelo caminho que o SENHOR me enviou, e trouxe Agague, o rei de Amaleque, e destruí por completo os amalequitas.
21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal."
21 Porém, o povo tomou do despojo, ovelhas e bois, o principal das coisas que deveriam ter sido destruídas por completo para sacrificar ao SENHOR, teu Deus, em Gilgal.
22 And Samuel said, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
22 E Samuel disse: Tem o SENHOR um deleite maior nas ofertas queimadas e sacrifícios do que na obediência à voz do SENHOR? Eis que o obedecer é melhor do que o sacrificar, e o sujeitar-se do que a gordura de carneiros.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king."
23 Pois a rebelião é como o pecado da feitiçaria, e a teimosia é como a iniquidade e idolatria. Como rejeitaste a palavra do SENHOR, Ele também rejeitou a ti como rei.
24 And Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.
24 E Saul disse a Samuel: Pequei, pois transgredi o mandamento do SENHOR, e as tuas palavras; porque temi o povo e obedeci a sua voz.
25 Now therefore, I pray, pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD."
25 Agora, portanto, rogo-te que perdoes o meu pecado e voltes novamente comigo, para que eu possa adorar o SENHOR.
26 And Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel."
26 E Samuel disse a Saul: Não retornarei contigo, pois rejeitaste a palavra do SENHOR, e o SENHOR te rejeitou como rei sobre Israel.
27 As Samuel turned to go away, Saul laid hold upon the skirt of his robe, and it tore.
27 E quando Samuel se virou para ir embora, ele se agarrou à borda do seu manto, o qual se rasgou.
28 And Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.
28 E Samuel lhe disse: Nesse dia o SENHOR rasgou de ti o reino de Israel e o deu a um vizinho teu, que é melhor do que tu.
29 And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent."
29 E, ademais, a Força de Israel não mentirá, nem se arrependerá; pois ele não é homem para que se arrependa.
30 Then he said, "I have sinned; yet honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD your God."
30 Então, ele disse: Eu pequei; contudo, honra-me agora, rogo-te, diante dos anciãos do meu povo, e diante de Israel; volta novamente comigo, para que eu possa adorar o SENHOR, teu Deus.
31 So Samuel turned back after Saul; and Saul worshiped the LORD.
31 Assim, Samuel se voltou novamente a Saul; e Saul adorou o SENHOR.
32 Then Samuel said, "Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amal'ekites." And Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, "Surely the bitterness of death is past."
32 Então disse Samuel: Trazei-me aqui Agague, o rei dos amalequitas. E Agague veio até ele delicadamente. E Agague disse: Certamente, a amargura de morte já passou.
33 And Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women." And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
33 E Samuel disse: Como a tua espada deixou mulheres sem filhos, assim ficará a tua mãe sem filho entre as mulheres. E Samuel cortou Agague em pedaços diante do SENHOR em Gilgal.
34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house in Gib'e-ah of Saul.
34 Então, Samuel foi para Ramá; e Saul subiu para a sua casa, para Gibeá de Saul.
35 And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death, but Samuel grieved over Saul. And the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
35 E Samuel não veio mais ver Saul até o dia da sua morte; todavia, Samuel fez luto por Saul; e o SENHOR se arrependeu de ter feito Saul rei sobre Israel.
