1 And it came to pass, in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that, wine, was before him,so I took up the wine, and gave unto the king, and I had never been sad before him.
1 Sucedeu, pois, no mês de Nisã, no ano vigésimo do rei Artaxerxes, que estava posto vinho diante dele, e eu peguei o vinho e o dei ao rei; porém eu nunca estivera triste diante dele.
2 Then said the king unto me, Wherefore is thy countenance sad, seeing that, thou, art not sick? this is nothing else, but sadness of heart. Then feared I exceedingly,
2 E o rei me disse: Por que está triste o teu rosto, pois não estás doente? Não é isto senão tristeza de coração; então temi sobremaneira.
3 and said unto the kingLet the, king, unto times age-abiding, live! Wherefore should my countenance, not be sad, when, the citythe place of the sepulchres of my fathers, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
3 E disse ao rei: Viva o rei para sempre! Como não estaria triste o meu rosto, estando a cidade, o lugar dos sepulcros de meus pais, assolada, e tendo sido consumidas as suas portas a fogo?
4 Then the king said to me, Concerning what, is it, thou, wouldst make request? So I prayed unto the God of the heavens,
4 E o rei me disse: Que me pedes agora? Então orei ao Deus dos céus,
5 and then said unto the king, If, unto the king, it seemeth good, and if thy servant might find favour before thee, That thou wouldst send me unto Judah, unto the city of the sepulchres of my fathers, that I might build it.
5 E disse ao rei: Se é do agrado do rei, e se o teu servo é aceito em tua presença, peço-te que me envies a Judá, à cidade dos sepulcros de meus pais, para que eu a reedifique.
6 And the king said unto me, the queen, also sitting beside him, For how long would be thy journey? and when wouldst thou return? So it seemed good before the king to send me, and I set him a time.
6 Então o rei me disse, estando a rainha assentada junto a ele: Quanto durará a tua viagem, e quando voltarás? E aprouve ao rei enviar-me, apontando-lhe eu um certo tempo.
7 Then said I unto the king, If, unto the king, it seemeth good, may, letters, be given me, unto the pashas Beyond the River,that they may convey me over, until I come into Judah;
7 Disse mais ao rei: Se ao rei parece bem, dêem-se-me cartas para os governadores dalém do rio, para que me permitam passar até que chegue a Judá.
8 also a letter unto Asaph, keeper of the park that belongeth unto the king, that he may give me timber to build up the gates of the fortress which pertaineth to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house whereinto I shall enter. And the king gave me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.
8 Como também uma carta para Asafe, guarda da floresta do rei, para que me dê madeira para cobrir as portas do paço da casa, para o muro da cidade e para a casa em que eu houver de entrar. E o rei mas deu, segundo a boa mão de Deus sobre mim.
9 Then came I unto the pashas Beyond the River, and gave them the letters of the king,now the king, had sent with me, captains of the army, and horsemen.
9 Então fui aos governadores dalém do rio, e dei-lhes as cartas do rei; e o rei tinha enviado comigo capitàes do exército e cavaleiros.
10 And, when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant the Ammonite, heard of it, it vexed them, with a great vexation,that there had come a man, to seek welfare, for the sons of Israel.
10 O que ouvindo Sambalate, o horonita, e Tobias, o servo amonita, lhes desagradou extremamente que alguém viesse a procurar o bem dos filhos de Israel.
11 So I entered Jerusalem,and was there three days.
11 E cheguei a Jerusalém, e estive ali três dias.
12 Then rose I by night, I, and a few men with me, I having told no man, what, my God, had been putting in my heart, to do for Jerusalem,and, beast, was there none with me, save the beast on which, I myself, was riding.
12 E de noite me levantei, eu e poucos homens comigo, e não declarei a ninguém o que o meu Deus me pôs no coração para fazer em Jerusalém; e não havia comigo animal algum, senão aquele em que estava montado.
13 So I went forth through the valley-gate by night, even unto the front of the snake-fountain, and into the dung-gate,and I viewed the walls of Jerusalem, how, they, were broken down, and, the gates thereof, consumed with fire.
13 E de noite saí pela porta do vale, e para o lado da fonte do dragão, e para a porta do monturo, e contemplei os muros de Jerusalém, que estavam fendidos, e as suas portas, que tinham sido consumidas pelo fogo.
14 Then passed I over unto the fountain-gate, and unto the pool of the king,but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.
14 E passei à porta da fonte, e ao tanque do rei; e não havia lugar por onde pudesse passar o animal em que estava montado.
15 Then went I up in the torrent-bed, by night, and viewed the wall,and turned back, and entered by the valley-gate, and so returned.
15 Ainda, de noite subi pelo ribeiro e contemplei o muro; e, virando entrei pela porta do vale; assim voltei.
16 Now, the deputies, knew not whither I had gone, nor what I was doing,not even to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the deputies, nor to the rest who were doing the work, had I as yet told it.
16 E não souberam os magistrados aonde eu fora nem o que eu fazia; porque ainda nem aos judeus, nem aos sacerdotes, nem aos nobres, nem aos magistrados, nem aos mais que faziam a obra, até então tinha declarado coisa alguma.
17 So I said unto them, Ye, can see the misfortune that, we, are in, how that, Jerusalem, lieth waste, and, the gates thereof, are burned with fire: Come, and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may remain, no longer, a reproach.
17 Então lhes disse: Bem vedes vós a miséria em que estamos, que Jerusalém está assolada, e que as suas portas têm sido queimadas a fogo; vinde, pois, e reedifiquemos o muro de Jerusalém, e não sejamos mais um opróbrio.
18 Then told I them, of the hand of my God, that, it, had been good upon me, as also of the words of the king, which he had spoken unto me,so they said, We will arise and build! and they strengthened their hands right well.
18 Então lhes declarei como a mão do meu Deus me fora favorável, como também as palavras do rei, que ele me tinha dito; então disseram: Levantemo-nos, e edifiquemos. E esforçaram as suas mãos para o bem.
19 But, when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed at us, and poured contempt upon us,and said, What is this thing which ye would do? against the king, would ye rebel?
19 O que ouvindo Sambalate, o horonita, e Tobias, o servo amonita, e Gesém, o árabe, zombaram de nós, e desprezaram-nos, e disseram: Que é isto que fazeis? Quereis rebelar-vos contra o rei?
20 Then answered I them, and said to themThe God of the heavenshe, will prosper us, therefore, we his servants, will arise and build,But, to you, pertaineth no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
20 Então lhes respondi, e disse: O Deus dos céus é o que nos fará prosperar: e nós, seus servos, nos levantaremos e edificaremos; mas vós não tendes parte, nem justiça, nem memória em Jerusalém.
